A theory I have on non-reproducing Iconians and the plentiful Heralds. If you look at the Iconian we have seen (And the one in the "Buy Fenegi War Bonds" poster, it looks like energy contained in a suit. My theory is that the "Iconians" are now energy, and well... makes reproduction difficult. Can generate more energy, but not another mind/spirit/etc. The suits are basically a containment shell.
Heralds? They are examples of the original organic Iconians that did not transcend corporeal form.
This is my line of thinking as well. The Iconians are no longer biological, they are truly immortal but are not multi-dimensional like some of the other God-like beings in Trek. My guess is that there's about 5-15 Iconians left, the Heralds were their attempt at reproduction but could not quite become true Iconian. The few Iconians left have split up the Andromeda galaxy and each rule a part as Gods.
I believe we are dealing with only one Iconian and "Her" faction as we've only really encountered one true Iconian after all.
Great blog. I love reading all this lore, and I'm super excited to test these Heralds in combat.
Do we have a launch date for S10 yet? Or even a name?
Release date: Late Spring. Or somewhere close to it.

Alpha quadrant hybrid ship tech came from their technology in the Spheres. And the use / manipulation of gateways is very much fitting of the science ship style.
Please may these ships never appear in any lock box.
You know it's happening, as unfortunate as it is. If these things (some of them anyway) don't appear in Lock Boxes, it'll be a first. Every other article (like this) that we've had that displays new ships inevitably has them show up in lock boxes.
Between these Iconian ships and the Iconian Rep armor, I'm not sure wheather the Iconians are trying to laugh us to death or we're trying to laugh them to death. But all in all, the whole Iconian thing is shaping up to be one huge comedy.
Regardless of the comedy factor, these ships are not Iconian. They're Herald.
So, they're from the same planet. And after 200.000 years there are billions of Heralds but only few Iconians left, even though the Iconians were spread out through the entire Milky Way galaxy?
I hope there will be some story details on why exactly there are only a few Iconians left and why they chose to breed Heralds rather than reproduce.
Would be a funny twist if all of the 'Iconians' are really dead, and its just the servitor races carrying on as if they think they are still alive just silent.
Would explain why they aren't "breeding" like the servitors given how much time has passed.
To lesser creatures or those lacking the technology, phasers might seem like magic fire wands.
I totally get that argument. I can also kind of see what you're going for. But my first thought was still "Wait, is that a space orc with a glowy mace?"
I'd be curious to know what the thought process was behind giving the Heralds glowy medieval melee weapons.
I do like the ships.

We probably gonna see more of Iconians and their plans for domination for 5 more years after Season 10 comes out (around season 11). And hopefully we are going to get some sort of hybrid ship (from salvaged, re-engineered Iconian tech) along the way to fight these Demons.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone

While they're hashing that out, I wouldn't turn away miniature versions as ground non-combat pets, unlocked via the 'destroy X Herald ships' accolade... which, now that I think about it, would be a good idea for all of those accolades.
Would be a funny twist if all of the 'Iconians' are really dead, and its just the servitor races carrying on as if they think they are still alive just silent.
Funny, and interesting. The closest things we've seen to that here - to my knowledge - would be the APUs (but they wiped out their masters when they were going to wind down the war)... and that Klingon sleeper ship from I-forget-which-TNG-episode.
Why would you need the article to to conclude those things? Isn't all that standard with all the new content?
I was making reference to the fact that I had actually read the article, whereas several people who've posted here haven't (thus their belief that these are Iconian ships).

Well that explains the Goa'uld and (to a larger degree) the Ori. :P
Well said race did "evolve" on Iconia... so... if you want to argue it... maybe they are designed by the Iconians for them?
That being said... Lobi store that staff of theirs... I want it!
It seems to be a thing in Star Trek, once you give up on physical/mortal bodies, you stop having kids.
A few examples:
Q can, but generally don't reproduce.
The Prophets have increased in number, but the only examples we have are from uplifting others rather then reproducing.
Pah-wraiths either can't or don't reproduce.
The Traveler may fall in this category as well, either can't reproduce or his power was not inheritable, so he traveled looking for others that he might teach.

What I see it as is a species who has a clear control over gravity. I'd imagine having a centralized spot that you can directly control with gravitational force would allow you to do some rather terrifying up-close damage (I'm currently considering the gravitational relativity in value for black holes) closer to the source. This combined with the fact that they as a species seem to have mastery over transportation powers means that up-close fighting would actually be their forte.
Think of it this way, if you can close the gap with your opponent almost every single time, why WOULDN'T you try to min-max your melee abilities? :P

This way they can make the Herald models look and feel fundamentally different without having to create new bones. From the looks of it, they're just using Neverwinter assets.
Actually, if we're talking about an essentially "immortal" race of beings who have lived far longer than 200,000 years, this may seem to them a short length of time when compared to their overall lifespan. Obviously, they can be killed under extreme circumstances (such as the bombardment), but possibly they have become so advanced that under normal circumstances, their lifespan is of an indefinite length of time.
Please may these ships never appear in any lock box.
yes, please, please. this would be ridiculous. Iconian ships must stay a mystery; the undine ships available for the players was a mistake, please don't do the same mistake.

Aren't they all in a sense?
Alpha quadrant hybrid ship tech came from their technology in the Spheres. And the use / manipulation of gateways is very much fitting of the science ship style.
- They will start out super strong, and dominant, but we will somehow gain the upper hand and they'll become the next cannon fodder.
- We will be getting some of, or all of these ships in Lock Boxes, via the Lobi Store or via some other promotional package.
- Once Season 10 is done with, we'll likely never see these guys again.
- We will come across a Herald that wants freedom; he'll paint his face White and Blue before battle.
These aren't Iconian ships; they're Herald ships. It does clearly state that. :rolleyes:You know it's happening, as unfortunate as it is. I expect the Iconians do have Science Ships, but as stated in the article, these guys are not Iconians.
Yet surely they'd have mastered the art of cloning or reproducing via other means by now?
I was thinking W40k actually...
That's one hell of a long time to hold a grudge.

You SOOOOO left out Babylon 5!
Shadows & their badass servitor races... The multi-eye thing looks a lot like the Shadows.
Some of the Native Americans thought the Europeans were gods, so yeah.

These are Herald warships. The Obex (assuming it's not being retconned out) is an Iconian observation ship. They might not even be armed.
To an immortal energy being, 200,000 years is not a huge deal. Remember, these guys have been around for millions of years to begin with.

Indeed, this is a concept that was explored more in Babylon 5 than Star Trek though, so not everyone will be as familiar with it.
Immortal being with 200,000 years of pent up sexual frustration if they can't breed anymore. :P
the Yuuzhan Vong seem more Undine than Herald to me. very organic dudes, they are.
Probably a Solanae ship though not sure what use it is to them. Seems more in line with the Sphere tech.
Makes me wonder if the spheres and the Obex with it weren't just appropriated by the Iconians, from another species.
Minus the 200.000 years, the rest describes a regular forum ranter.

I'd much rather have RWBY added. I for one would love a high-caliber phased sniper-scythe
