I bet the Kobali would get along great with the Deferi.
The Kobali resurrect the dead as their own with their technology. Naturally, their inability to reproduce would cause their species to pass away. The Kobali we know should never have been. Their technology disturbs the Balance.
...If you ask me, this aberration ought to be eliminated. However, I have no objection to flying one of their ships - a ship is a ship, after all, and these aren't even the "corpse collecting barges" someone falsely referred to them as. This is no worse than flying, say, a Tal'shiar or Elachi ship. Also, I don't hate Cryptic for adding the Kobali - IMO, ethical dilemmas and less-straightforward main story elements are really needed in this game.
They could be seen just a token representing how far things have come - what they're doing. Which going back and having various other ships really just wouldn't celebrate the here and now. It's an anniversary celebration...not a funeral.
Though, I had really expected splinter Vaadwaur sort of stuff...not Kobali. But that's that.
Celebrating Star Trek's past as it proceeds into the future is hardly a funeral. That being said, all of our previous anniversaries involved Federation, Klingon, and then Romulan Republic faction ships, the second and fourth year including newer starships original to STO, and the third year having one underused fan-favorite (the Ambassador) and another STO-original Klingon ship, both well-aged.
The point is, getting a Kobali ship (maybe more than one?) for this anniversary seems to pale a bit compared to prior anniversary rewards, especially since the Kobali aren't the most interesting factions in the universe. Granted, the ship could be really awesome, visually and gameplay-wise, but I'd still prefer a set of player faction-based ship for STO's fifth year in service.
Guess we'll see how it fares overall soon, at any rate.
I'm not sure about this post. It sounds like one alien ship for the 5th anniversary.
I was hoping for the release of a 4th faction, which I thought was suppose to be released by December 2014, according to a post back in 2013, year in reflection.
regardless, if no new faction is coming, it would be nice to have a unique ship for each faction, rather, than, yet another alien ship to fly.

The 2013 Reflections post stated a new expansion was being added and would hit late 2014...there wasn't anything about a new faction in that blog.
Sounds like a ship but sounds like a non faction one so fed kdf and rom will get the same one. Still not excited over this anniversary event so may give it a miss

I admit it...I lol'd at that. Not going to share the mental image that went along with it, but it was lolworthy.

So no anniversary warbirds for the anniversary? or birds of prey? or klingon science vessels? or Romulan Science falcons? just pretty in pink kobali?
*sigh* okay... I guess so...
While I don't really have a problem with the Kobali arc (other it needing branching mission paths so it feels like you matter to the story itself), I share your sentiment about the ship options. It's truly disappointing that there still isn't a T6 KDF or Romulan Science option compared to the three available to our Federation captains... but a Kobali Cruiser does make a tad more sense given that we have the Command Specialization incoming.
Eh, we'll just have to see what exactly we get, what role it fills, etc. Maybe it'll be another special hybrid like the Science Destroyers, but a Science Cruiser instead? Not that "Science Cruiser" and "Warship" really go together, but yeah... we'll see when we see.
Mostly, I care about what exactly the ship is and what hoops must be jumped through to obtain it... that is what will determine whether I bother with it or no. :P
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
Evidently, somebody didn't pay attention during the Deferi dailies, and at the Defera adventure zone.
I did. And then after all we did for the Deferi I (player) get called a butcher by an ungrateful Deferi that I had to bail out on the Lleiset. Clearly their attitudes have not changed. At least the Kobali have never shown that degree of ingratitude and made an *effort* even when it wasn't all that great of one...

Not really interested in flying an alien ship.
I prefer sticking to faction specific ships.
I've got several lockbox ships tucked away in several character banks, haven't opened more than one and that was just to see what it looked like.
Never really outfitted it nor flew it.
I thought perhaps the latest Breen ship from the Winter Event would be interesting to try, but after a day I went back to flying my Vesta.
As a Star Fleet/Klingon/Romulan Officer I have no interest in flying an alien ship unless it involves a specific mission requirement.
I doubt I'll spend any time gathering what ever "trinkets" it takes to acquire a Kobali ship.
I too would prefer faction specific rewards for the 5th Anniversary Event.

I'm just sure there's going to be mad dash to get the new Kobali ship. The USS Mortician has a nice ring to it.
A ship made by a people who self admit they are not and were not ready to fight for themselves. Not exactly a confidence builder for the quality and capability of their ships.
A "peaceful" people, who had no problem attacking Captain Janeway only 30 years prior.
A people whose only continuation in existence is robbing graves. Oh well, once you get past the smell they're not all bad.
I would note their kind willingness, and insistence, during the final battle that all wounded be sent to their ships for immediate, ...........Care? .................. Treatment?
Certainly wouldn't want a perfectly good corpse to go to waste, now would we?
Oh! That reminds me. Just how did we end up with two Kims? A little more than just some harmless reanimation going on?
I'm trying to imagine how all of this will be received by the Klingon's.
The glory of battle! What better experience than to kill the mightiest of the Empire's foes! (who can't fight for themselves).
TWICE !
If the Kobali in question killed in glorious battle just happens to formerly be a Klingon, does he get to go to Stovakor twice? On the other hand, did he really make it there the first time?
Like I said, somebody didn't pay attention to the dailies and invasion zone.
Does Kranek ring a bell? The Deferi standing outside the base camp, armed and shooting? The Deferi struggling with the automated turrets? The Deferi miners in mere mining pods fighting vainly against Breen warships? The Deferi frigate crews, horribly outmatched, taking on Breen warships? Howsabout the Deferi patrol captain who was eager to launch a counter-ambush against the Breen?
The point you're missing is that your assertion that the Deferi are a bunch of cowards unwilling to fight is false. There are Deferi who are more than willing to fight for their homes and territory, just like the Kobali. Kranek even went so far as to question the overly pacifistic philosophy of his people.
And by the way, the opinion of one Deferi doctor isn't representative of the entire Deferi people, when it comes to both appreciation and courage.
and the consequences of one's actions across time.
nevermind the rest, this caught my attention, a major clanger for future storyline with the kobali? wonder if this new ship and crew will end up like the titanic...
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
I may participate simply to get the trait, but there's a good chance the ship will get trashed almost immediately..
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Indeed - and the fact that this is ironic in itself can't have been missed by you.
Obtaining a ship that we're not really interested for no other reason than to access it's trait.....
I see the irony.
Depending on the looks and stats it is not yet set in stone that the ship will get trashed, but at this moment I'll be blunt and say that IMO a Kobali ship compared to a faction specific ship is just pure trash.

I sincerely doubt that, since it is technically free, it'll be anything particularly groundbreaking.
It will most likely be used to showcase the new command boff powers, not unlike the DSD was used to showcase the secondary deflector and alternating boff stations.

I still use mine on my romulan and klingon characters actually. On my fed it's mere storage though.

Yeah - the KDF/RR variants do tend to be seen more often. Probably due to the lack of other sci-ship options.
But it does, in general, NOT seem to be a highly-used ship.
Isn't that what you meant?

anniversary events are supposed to be one of the last bastions were you can rely on there being factions ships introduced, but nope, just another alien of the week ship for it now too. interest in this anniversary dwindling down to 0%
