The game client keeps crashing when I'm right in the middle of missions or instances like bug hunt and it's really getting frustrating.

1. Located the GamePrefs.pref file in the game installation folder
2. Deleted the GamePrefs.pref file
3. Restarted the game
Managed to complete Winter Invasion so tried Bug Hunt Elite hoping I might be able to complete it: crashed with ticket # 36696148
It was only in the wonderland as well. Qo'noS was fine, as was earth space dock, but everything in the winter event had this pixelated effect happening. This is the only game i've been having these issues on, so i'm pretty sure it's not the system.
ahhh, that sux.
Yeah, sounds like there is an issue within the graphics options or game itself somewhere. Wish i could offer more advice for you to try, other than trying everything i tried, which i doubt would help any, im all out of ideas, sorry
I believe God created the universe, because he knew we wanted to explore. So, he made us a playground...
I seem to have the same thing. Korfez, CCA and ISA and other space stf's. Sometimes when I beam up to my ship to fly somewhere. One in two usually crashes in STF*s.
Ground stf's and Voth ground BZ doesn't seem to cause it.
It's getting annoying. I don't want to be the reason ISA or any other stf fails.
Hopefully something will be found. And this started after last weeks patch, before the AMD driver patch. And I have a mid range computer, nothing special, but before last week I had about 1 gameclient has crashed in 6 months. Now it's a few each day when I do space stf's.
Galavant!

Hey, you're doing more than Cryptic is from the looks of it, so thank you. Although now that graphics issue is everywhere and not just the winter event. I hate to say it, but i'm glad that it's not just me though. I just dislike that they're not going to do anything about this until after the new year.
I've got the same problem. Especially with Crystaline Cat. Crashes EVERY time here.
Yesterday gameclient crashed at Starfleet Academy when I opend my inventory.
###EDIT###
Now after another gameclient crash (in ISE after firing the first shots) there's a massive lag. Even the Gamelauncher needs 1-2 minutes to load its background graphics! My internet connection is fine though. Just made a speedtest and some random downloads. Ping normal, bandwith normal.
When I could finally log in and tried to enter the game with a char I got "Login2_timeout" error.
Mine started about 2 patches ago, game was completely stable then when I go into a Crystalline Catastrophe about 30secs-1 min in and game.exe crashes, or the game just crashes to desktop.
1. It is not my system, I've not changed anything during this time.
2. It isn't happening with any other game I play.
3. I've force verified all files 3 times now.
4. Other STO players are reporting exactly the same happening which points to the game.exe being bugged during the patch a few weeks ago.
Guess I won't be playing much STO over the festive season since this is a complete pain in the TRIBBLE having to log back in quickly and placing lower than I would normally do in CC, cheers Cryptic. Guess I will play Dragonage Inquisition instead until this is fixed.
Since October 19, 2014, GameClient.exe has crashed nine times on my computer. Note that crypticError.exe did not start, and there was no error code. Selecting "Force verify" in the launcher does not fix the problem. The crashes started occurring regularly after the patch on December 12, 2014. However, Windows Event Viewer shows that one crash occurred as far back as October 19, 2014. If I recall correctly, six of the nine crashes occurred during a map transition or immediately afterwards. I have included my computer specs below.

I hope someone sees this and fixes it. The only thing I can do at the moment is the daily race to get the ships. Very Very frustrating. Crashing with Tides of Ice, Bug Hunt, Winter Invasion, any mission I attempt, and it seems to happen just about instantly when I begin combat.
Contacted support, submitted a bug report in game, and reported my findings here.
Please Note: I sure would have liked to submit my bug report as a new thread.. but unfortunately I'm not a forum troll and apparently not allowed to post a new thread... AWESOME!
just got kicked out of CC with the usual "gameclient.exe" issue. This so called "server stability update" patch of today didn't fix it. This situation is nuts.
And one for the laughs:
Got kicked out again by trying to open a dropdown menu in the STF window
One of the only things I have taken note of, is that it seems some of you despite computer rig, seem to be having the same fault code issue and, that some of the people posting this issue seem to have the same I-7 processor or, Intel processor in general.
So, albeit differing GPU's between the lot, it seems to me it might boil down to a possible issue related to the processor or, than again maybe not!

I have pretty much the same problem, has crashed about 6 times in the last two weeks. I have a gtx-690 with 4gb in an alienware Aurora with I-7 and 16gb ram, 2TB of raid 5 ssd.
These are from poster's, who actually listed information regarding this issue, outside of just saying I have an issue.
This may be a common factor in the problem and, it may not.
It is just simply something I took note of, that seems to be a common denominator amongst those effected.
Also, this error seems to be stemming from a stack hash error, which seems to pertain from a possible ntdll.dll and/or NTFS, usually resulting from a corruption issue from somewhere.
It could be from any # of possible driver and/or software and/or hardware related issues.
I'm on an AMD fx 6300, so i don't know if that would fall in with the I-7's at all.
I'm a little sad that even after the patch today, I'm still having all the same issues. Slow UI, graphics issue (square effects), and constant crashes. Considering it's the holiday's, i can understand that they're not going to get around to fixing it until January sometime, but would it be possible to still get some dev interactions on this issue? With it being a bug that actually keeps people from playing properly, you would think it would be a little higher priority.

I try to help where i can , pity resetting it didnt work for you tho. Or everyone else at that.
And i agree, cryptic couldve at least acknowledged this and said something by now

I am not saying it is only related to Intel processors, just that a lot of them with this issue have that particular hardware.
But, in your case, if it is coming up with the same error code, than it is highly likely that you as well are having a driver and/or software corruption somewhere, that may or, may not be hardware related in example a GPU/RAM/ETC.
It would require some research but, I did see some suggestions for tracking down and, possibly fixing this error.

So, as you can see I have nothing fancy but, it runs it well enough.
Index score of 5.9 and, this is coming from a $200 off the shelf computer some 4-5years old!
Still having this issue, but only when I try Tide of Ice. Everything else works fine, but I can only spend ten to thirty seconds in the Tide of Ice before it crashes.
I've tried lowering my graphics to absolute minimum, I've tried reloading the game, rebooting, everything. What is going on?
EDIT: Even stranger, my girlfriend is playing on her laptop which has two gigs less ram, a video card thats a generation behind mine, and a single core to my dual core CPU and she's playing Tide of Ice just fine! What?
Well, I'm sure glad I'm not the only person experiencing this little problem. For me, it started after the latest patch, and seemed to be specific to STF's; I'd join them, and soon after I started playing them I would crash out - thankfully with more than enough time to re-log and rejoin the STF in question.
However, today I have crashed twice, once when changing sessions, and literally just now when playing a mission. I see there has been no official response...

they dont have an excuse when its not the holidays, the starting videos has made the .exe stop responding for 4 months now. I have done everything they told me nad now the romulan video is playing for federation charecters. They WILL NOT listen and do not care. i cannot creat a new charector nor a new account. i got a friend who has the same problem on all 3 of his computers. They ignore us, always have, always will, and it will never be fixed...
Tried the Proxy fix. I played Tide of Ice for about six minutes before it crashed on me. I had the graphics up to my usual specs though, so it's possible if I lower the graphics all the way I might be able to get through all ten waves.
I'll try a low graphic run later today.

If you're in the US, maybe try 'US' instead 'EU' as proxy setting. I had not a single crash after I did the changes. Playing at max. graphic settings (i7 3770K, GTX680).
But I've never done 'Tide of Ice'. I usually do CC and ISE.
Yesterday evening I experienced some rubberbanding again during the high load time (~100 CC games open in the STF queue) but no crash. So this might be a server issue (provide more bandwith and CPU power CRYPTIC!!)
got the Gameclient crash problem since the winter event patch . Cryptic only reply is to force verify, and after my reply to tell them the crash still there they resend me the same message.......
Starting to feel realy glad i hold myself to buy zen recently.

Even after today's patch, I'm still having this issue. The the oversized pixel effect seems to be limited to the winter wonderland again, but it's still heavy. I'm still crashing any time i get into combat, and i'm still unable to get the discount on the ships.
I was having issues playing last night... first time I logged on it was SNR city for at least the first 1 hour. All I was doing though was doffing.
When I was done I started running some patrols with friends and it seemed ok for the 2 hours but the day before I was getting hit with SNR along with 2 other friends of mine in the same team.
It is what it is but it gets to be annoying. If it's not SNR it's DC
If you recently obtained the mastery trait from the Dauntless or the Sarr Theln, the traits have a tendency to show up in game with SNR like symptoms. Try unslotting the traits and/ or not launching pets to see if the issue continues.

AWESOME!
And one for the laughs:
Got kicked out again by trying to open a dropdown menu in the STF window

What?
After having some gameclient.exe crashes again, I set both "proxy-gameplay" and "patching proxy" (options in the launcher) to EU.
Since that my rubberbanding seems to be gone and I've had no gameclient.exe crashes in 3-4 consecutive CC's.
Could someone please verify this. Maybe this is the solution .. or I'm just lucky at the moment.
EDIT:
8 CCs and 1 ISE (crashes ALWAYS!) ..and still no gameclient.exe crash
However, today I have crashed twice, once when changing sessions, and literally just now when playing a mission. I see there has been no official response...
they dont have an excuse when its not the holidays, the starting videos has made the .exe stop responding for 4 months now. I have done everything they told me nad now the romulan video is playing for federation charecters. They WILL NOT listen and do not care. i cannot creat a new charector nor a new account. i got a friend who has the same problem on all 3 of his computers. They ignore us, always have, always will, and it will never be fixed...
Day 2: still no crashes or rubberbanding.
Can someone confirm this?
I'll try a low graphic run later today.
If you're in the US, maybe try 'US' instead 'EU' as proxy setting. I had not a single crash after I did the changes. Playing at max. graphic settings (i7 3770K, GTX680).
But I've never done 'Tide of Ice'. I usually do CC and ISE.
Yesterday evening I experienced some rubberbanding again during the high load time (~100 CC games open in the STF queue) but no crash. So this might be a server issue (provide more bandwith and CPU power CRYPTIC!!)
I'll play some more later today and see if it cures my crashing.

Starting to feel realy glad i hold myself to buy zen recently.
Voth ground BZ have had some rubber banding, but the space stf's that crashed the game for me before have stopped crashing the gameclient.
So it worked for me so far.

I'm having issues today.
