Right. Angry, hurt, insulted... all the things you want to shield the devs from. Yet no care for the player who is venting their frustration in a healthy and constructive manner.
Because I don't want to lose STO. There is a community here that I like. There is a lot of beautiful work put into this game. The environments, the characters, the storyline, the friends I've made. I love STO for that. I don't just throw things away when they start to break. I want to see this fixed.
Not all dollars are created equally. I reward content that I fine interesting and appealing. I chastise content that I feel fails to meet my expectations.
I don't like the current direction of this game. But there are still a lot of things I do like and want to support. I'm not interested in throwing out the baby with the bath water.
We criticize the direction of this game exactly because we care about it. Because we want to fix this.
If we walk away STO dies and PWE moves onto some other property.
We don't want that.
Understanding that a thing can simultaneously be good and bad is key.
So I should suck it up because I'm upset and concerned about the direction of this game, but the developers should be immune to critique.
Again with your lop sided logic. You have no standing. Why do you waste your time?
First of all, "healthy and constructive"? How do you rationalize the way forum posters refer to and talk to the developers and moderators? I've seen some intensely unnecessary remarks and language used, both in this thread and others. There are literally too many examples to bother quoting. You don't have to look hard.
You can't actually believe that insulting the developers is going to accomplish ANYTHING. Please don't tell me you think this is actually healthy. Treating other people with disrespect is not a practice that anyone should call healthy.
If you want to affect real change, you need to communicate that desire in earnest.
Note that this thread is a hundred and fifty-seven pages and counting. And yet, almost all of the complaints the players here have regarding the game haven't been changed. So, it really can't be doing anything to solve the problems you have with it.
Which leaves the "joke" part of the claim to this thread. That it's all harmless fun. That's the same rationale that bullies use when verbally abusing their victims. "No one's really being hurt. We think it's funny, why don't they?" Because they're the ones you're abusing. I'm sure if someone directed this much TRIBBLE at you, that your tune would change.
My logic only seems lopsided when you ignore half of it.
If you really think the players have been unreasonably insulting, your skin is so thin that I can see your kidneys. I think you need to understand concepts like satire, critical feedback, oh- and accepting that feedback like an adult.
Now if I were in a thread that people were enjoying and echoing, almost unanimously, for over 150 pages; and I launched into complaint, I wouldn't be so egotistical to think everyone else has a problem.
Low endurance to criticism, 'everyone else is wrong' attitude, inability to see humor in failure, proclamation that this is all nonsense despite overwhelmingly positive response...
Let's be very clear: this is an ego problem. Opportunity for growth to acknowledge it though.

If you think critical feedback and satire go well together, then you are deeply flawed in your perception of feedback. Criticizing and insulting are two different things and the lines between the two have become so badly blurred here that many don't realize that they're not even offering decent feedback any more. They're just spouting trendy taglines that trolls invented to insult the devs.
The title of this thread is a perfect example.
This is definitely an ego problem. The ego of those who believe that bullying and mockery are effective critical tools deflecting the responsibility of decency onto other people.
157 pages of insults and somehow you think I'm the one who needs to "grow".

Incorrect.
1.) Dilithium role backs were themselves rolled back.
2.) Dilithium was added throughout the game.
3.) Specialization points removed, and then returned.
4.) R&D costs for materials were substantially reduced.
5.) Performance gates on WW have been reduced or removed.
And that's just in this release. In LoR our responses here restored dilithium to STF's, shortened the time for reputation, increased reputation rewards, and improved login ability for all players.

Abuse or a very simple means of gauging player sentiments? Once you've become a meme, it's time to rethink your strategy, unless it's profitable. Then you begin to worry about your next quarters targets and wonder... what if people don't come back?

Okay, that did make me laugh. I didn't think it would happen by reading this thread. You're very right that a notable set of changes did come from the protest of the players, but I still firmly believe that the less insulting approaches made regarding those issues were key to those changes, and not stuff like this thread.
I'm not blind to the game's flaws. I don't visit the Delta Quadrant, I've never been to this Argala place (I didn't even know it existed until recently), and I miss some of the STFs that have empty queues. But for me, the changes and additions that I like outnumber those that I don't like.
In part because of that, I try to avoid griping about game design choices in a manner that implies that my grievance is some kind of dealbreaker. I direct my creativity to imagining solutions instead of cleverly voicing my outrage.
They're just spouting trendy taglines that trolls invented to insult the devs.
You seriously come into a thread that the community is enjoying, derail the thing with ridiculously stiff and laughably unreasonable standards of conduct, then accuse others of being trolls.
You came here looking for trouble. You posted here to cause trouble. Whether you know it or not, you are the troll here.
Well here's your problem.

Yeah. You seem to be the only one that doesn't realize it.
You think acting like a decent human being is an unreasonable standard of conduct? You guys say things on this forum that you'd NEVER say to someone in person because you know it would get you more trouble than your satisfaction would be worth... but you believe your standard of conduct when sheltered comfortably behind a keyboard is sufficient and that any improvement on that behaviour is "ridiculous" and "unreasonable".... Really??? You've just entirely invalidated everything you have said. Entirely.
It's NOT difficult to address a grievance without resorting to the lowest common denominator.

I don't think you've spent much time in the real world: cause, if you think the behavior here is not 'decent', then I don't recommend it. I'd say you've lived a sheltered life, but I don't think that's it...
Because if you were half as critical and indecent to Cryptic as you are to the rest of the community here, you'd see the humor, fun, and validity in what's been done. You're clearly capable of chastising, criticizing, and insulting people from behind the comfort of your keyboard. In fact you've done it more severly and seriously than anyone here. While everyone else's are couched in good fun, yours are deficient of heart and whimsy. You have presented the most unreasonable expectations of conduct imaginable, all while sidestepping those expectations yourself.
So I guess that's lop sided decency to boot.
The conduct in this thread has been pleasant and acceptable. Until you started with the trolling.
Again, opportunity for growth here. You can continue to present yourself as you have, or you can change for the better. I really don't think you've got much to be proud of here. I'm gonna let you decide, because it's either going to be more of the same or were done.

If you want to consider my responses to be devoid of whimsy and feel insulted by the way I reject both your derision and your justification, then that's fine. That's criticism, and I can't fault you for wanting to voice it.
But that implies I have just as much a right to be critical. I haven't urged anyone here to stop doing what they're doing. But I do feel that it's not done with nearly the level of good spirits that you claim.
