1) What are the odds that its a tier-6 ship?

    It will be another Breen ship. STO still has two more Breen ship to make playable.
    I completed a 2-man CSE, ISE, and KASE, Optionals included. And I soloed Winter Invasion.

    Breen carrier seems most likely - hence the devs looking at pets. Could be a tier 6 - about 40% vs tier5U.

    Not going to be the Dominion Ship.

    yeah, Geko mentioned Bleth Choas pets in that thread on pets that were getting rebalanced.... We don't even HAVE those yet.

    This suggests that they're in the works, and we all know where the devs stick playable Breen stuff. And people have been guessing that we'll get a playable Sarr Theln since BEFORE last event. the main question is whether it will be T5-U or T6.

    There would be absolutely no reason for people to get cryptics T6 ships (read: pay for them) if they gave them away for free.

    IF we ever get a T6 ship for free, chances are it will be a T6 freighter or something similarly slow and relatively useless.
    Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...

    T5 this year... T6 next year I would think, least not until the Fleet T6 goes live.

    They have said not all t6 ships will have hybridmseats, I think an event ship without Intel powers might be possible and would still encourage plenty of sales of ships with intel seats.

    But even if it's just t5 fleet with free upgrades like the pleshbrek and chelgret I'll be happy.

    I'm hoping we can get the DSD for the secondary deflectors and warp cores for my toons that missed it.

    My guess is a T6 Breen ship.

    Well theres still the difference in raw power from the T6 ships compared to T5U ships... Also, just when did I mention Hybrid seats? Ever? This is in fact the first post I've ever mentioned them in, so there is ZERO logic in you pretending I did...

    It probably is but it doesn't make a huge difference since it will probably upgrade to Tier 5U if not. I could see them sticking to Tier 5U rather than giving away a Mastery trait.

    I kinda hope it's NOT another Breen ship. Not a huge fan of the aesthetics there.

    Based on the information we have, a T5U Breen carrier seems the most reasonable educated guess.

    EDIT: Actually, that could be why they decided to re-balance/fix/mess up pets again. Lots of them could well be flying around in the near future.

    Every year I end up missing almost all of the Winter event due to other commitments, but this year, that Breen shizz, snow boots and a nanopulse weapon is mine! :cool:

    T6: not gonna happen. We already have 2 Breen-Ships (along with other minor races´s ships) and they are free to upgrade to T5U. So the new winter-event reward will most likely be the same tier.

    And it will NOT be a jem-ship. They are dedicated to lockboxes (jem-bug) and lobistore (carrier).
    Winter event is traditional a (cold species) breen-ship.

    Same to risian summer event on Risa. They are out of the line fun-ships

    I'd be surprised if it wasn't tier 6 to be honest (although I wouldn't put it past cryptic either). It's a limited time event so not even close to everyone will be getting a free tier 6, and even if they did people will still buy them simply because they don't want to always fly that one ship. Besides, the last ones were tier 5 when that was endgame, it didn't stop people buying ships then.

    Definitely won't be a jem battlecruiser though. As others have said it's pretty much guaranteed to be the sarr theln battleship/carrier.

    The reference to the Bleth Choas fighters in Geko's pet post makes the identity of the winter ship a dead giveaway. It's a Sarr Theln.

    Whether it's T6, though, is anybody's guess.

    Exactly. That's why the old Event ships were all Tier 4 ship and not Tier 5 Fleet ship equivalents.


    I am not saying they will be Tier 6 ships, but any claims that monetary aspects would be why they might not be are on shaky grounds due to the ships that already were available from Events.

    I think the "monetary" aspect of these ships is taken by getting people to log in every day to grind them. Obviously Cryptic is getting something out of that.

    The difference being T6 is the shiny new thing, and T5 Event Ships appeared 2 years after the first C-Store T5 ... besides you can still upgrade them, T4 not so much ...

    I think it will be T6, as the event ships have so far to my knowledge always been top tier. Dyson Destroyers, Obelisk Carrier, Odyssey and Bortas, Kamarag and Ambassador Retrofit, Risian ships, Breen ships, Holy Bugship... they have all been T5. Now top tier is T6. Making the Winter Event ship a T6 will get MORE people exposed to the benefits of T6, thus encouraging people to get the C-Store or Lockbox ones for MORE ship traits.

    Makes perfect sense to me.
    And I could use a new carrier on my KDF. My Mirror Vo'Quv can't get the T5U love, and I kinda like the IKS Sivar. If it IS the Sarr Theln... I might have to find a new Kilrathi ship name. Maybe name her after the Karga or whatever the Dreadnought was named in the Wing Commander book False Colors.

    Yes... I've tried to name KDF ships after Kilrathi stuff from Wing Commander, because it fit. Although most of my Mirror ships ended up being more War-Craft related.
    Still got the Thrak'hath, which is my Kamarag Retrofit.

    I never said you did mention hybrid seating. But I felt the hybrid seats are relevant as they are one of the big draws to the current t6 ships. Without that extra bit of candy, a t6 breen ship is not going to steel many sales.

    As for power, currently the highest damage ship builds possible use t5u ships (see the recent 50k DPs channel videos). Intel powers are awesome in PvP, but only a couple are handy in pve (especially surgical strikes) and none are in any of the 50k+ DPs builds I've seen yet. Not even the top science builds.

    So we'll see how it shakes out in the future with other t6 ship releases, but given t5 fleet event ships didn't stop any ship sales in the past, I see no reason to believe things will change with the release of t6 event ships today.

    You're wrong on this. The anniversary ships were level 40 t5 ships. All other event ships have been t5 fleet. To my knowledge there has never been a t4 event ship.

    Count consoles:

    T4 = level 30, captain = 6 consoles
    T5 = level 40+ = 9 consoles
    T6, T5u = 10 consoles
    Fleet = +10% shields & hull, +1 console

    Chel grett = 4/3/3 consoles = t5 fleet
    Plesh break = 5/2/3 consoles = t5 fleet
    Risian cruiser = 3/5/2 consoles = t5 fleet
    Dyson destroyer = 3/2/4 = t5
    Borta = 4/4/1 = t5

    And that is what makes it a not so clear-cut case for me. It could go either way.

    The Kazon ship is a Mirror equivalent in the new lockbox, and it's Tier 5 with an upgrade option for an upgrade token.
    Old lockbox ships are free to upgrade but do not become Tier 6.
    New lockbox ship is Tier 6.
    The old event ship were fleet ship equivalents. Fleet ships otherwise always costed at least one module, even the Veteran ships did, but the event ships did not.

    It could be anywhere in there.

    Aside from the monetary aspect of selling us all our ships over again, one of the conceptual reasons why the Tier 5 ships have only an upgrade option and don't get fully Tier 6 is that creating so many starship mastery traits would be excessive considering the number of ships. But a singular Event ship could be doable.
    But they could want to sell more Tier 6 ships first, so maybe Tier 6 Event ships will be something for later, if ever. But they could also decide that they really want people to do those event grinds because they know their conversion rates and it will be worth it, and if people decide they don't care for another obsolete Tier 5 upgradeable ship, they won't get that.

    Something that just occurred to me, we can buy minipacks of the autographed photo's of Q that we have to grind for these ships from the lobi store right? Wouldn't making it tier 6 mean a considerably larger number of those packs would be bought, therefore making cryptic money?

    Yeah but with the amount of these ships I always seem to be seeing on day one of the event, it seems that there are a lot of insane people in game. Plus there's those people who for whatever reason just can't be on enough during the event and need to buy at least some packs to finish the project. Either way, my point is that making it tier 6 would make cryptic money, not cost them.

    They probably need to work to be able to afford the packs.

    At this point many have pictures left over. Next summer one character will start with almost 500 of the summer currencies. I will start this winter event with full stacks of the common commodities and over 200 of each of the uncommon ones.
