so basically, they are saying that the large gaps in the leveling process are supposed to be there.. ummmmmm... can someone explain this too me..

Right after you finish mindscape you get a popup window that explains the exp in delta rising is no longer going to get you one level per mission and the patrol mission wrapper is there to guide you to the ones linked to story. It also recommends doing other patrols to keep leveling.

I don't particularly think it was a great idea, but yes it is intended. We can only speculate on intent until they speak about it, but I think it was meant for both a theme and a mechanic reason.

As a mechanic it is a barrier to people finishing all the content in an hour then bi#%%$&ng about there being nothing to do. Its a bad way, but I think that's the goal.

From a theme point I think it is supposed to make you feel like he story has ripple effects over large areas and into many cultures. Which it kinda does, but based on the forum posts complaining, I think it fails here for many people. Though it did work for me, I believe there could have been a less artificial way to achieve the same goal.

I can't believe that with Borg Command ships not spawning in Red Alerts about 75% of the time, making them uncompletable, that they jump right on this to "fix". I think I might be about done with this game after playing since beta.

Any more pitiful than nerfing vendor trash?

I told people to get it done.

When the math is they way you to replay 100 story missions to get to 60 they are obviously not going to allow anything anywhere to be even remotely rewarding.

This is 100% in line with what I've seen from them the past 2 years, deleting features so that they can control the players.
Nevermind that people liked playing tour the galaxy, exploration etc.

Straight up battery hens on the assembly line.

"Somewhere someone is not playing his designated 1.2411 STF per day, red alert!!11"

If they wanna get rid of us so bad they should just go after doffing and marauding already

You have GOT to be kidding me!! It wasn’t an exploit! WHY did they have to **** with it?!

SO WHAT if players wanted to get to 60 in order to actually play the storylines through rather than stop and grind, stop and grind?!

Random desktop crashes, broken content, broken upgrade systems and everything else making this new expansion the crapfest it is and THIS is what they choose to address?

“Ermergerd! PLaerz isn’t playin the wayz we wont them two! Nerf nerf nerf!”

That’s it…. I said before if this happened it would prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Cryptic couldn’t give two sh!ts about the players or the game and just want to grind your wallets.

    Done.

Personally i blame you for this nerf. keep stuff like this in fleet chat. In the military its call operational security, or OPSEC. basically keep your mouth shut for the success of a mission. Because you posted a How-to. you skylined the grind to the devs, who in turn did what they just did.

    Thanks =)

News flash this is a game not a job, I don't play a game to grind and not have fun, I go to my job to work, I play a game to have fun...MY WAY YOU KNOW ME THE F*CKING CUSTOMER, not some predetermined pattern you want us to follow. You want everything to go a certain already determined way then make a single player game not an MMO. People are completionist they want to get to the top level is quickly a possible so they can actually enjoy the content. Cant tell you how many times I ran through the Romulan Story line just so I can play through it in it's entirety in the ship I want to fly from start to finish without having to pause to micromanage everything. Keep it up cryptic and all of a sudden ship spinning in eve will look a lot more fun then. Just be happy people are even playing your game and buying your ships. How about fixing actually problems in the game that have been in existence since beta then trying to put breaks on players actually playing your game.

The issue may not have been people levelling to 60. It is more likely that people were farming it for specialisation points and ship mastery XP.

This is probably more to do with it. Without even meaning to, I got my first two mastery tiers on my Fleet Daeinos in one run. By the time I was level 55, I had all four. Didn't even look at my specialization stuff, I can only imagine how that rocketed up.

I think we should call for a more frequently running XP event done in a way that won't artificially accelerate mastery and specialization growth. I wasn't even grinding for that purpose, and I'd happily give that up if there was a way I could ease the core leveling process. :(

Actually, they probably could see what's going on just from pulling their numbers, seeing what kind of activity is going on. From however they get their "metrics."

Hmm... using a lot of other content than just Tau Dewa to level up... looks like I'll be good, but still a shame.

And with the whole of the game still fun, count me out of any strike or such
    Was named Trek17.

Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.

Dude, Crypitic didn't need a forum post to know this was going on. They know everything that goes on.

On another front: I like the pitchfork idea. Or better: a Walk-out. Stop playing STO for a week. We can cry all we want to, but nothing is gonna get their attn. We all *****, no one DOES anything.

    I vote walk-out.

It IS about control. Hence the term "Playing as Intended" People REALLY need to let this sink into their skulls.

It's hard to gauge and forcast metrics when people are offroading their progression!!

Personally I've just been going around doing whatever I felt like, because yeah, as soon as I saw this posted I knew that the devs were going to shut it down. So as far as I am concerned, I will level on the things that I like and enjoy, and leave everyone else guessing as to what those things might or might not be.

Well, if anyone from Cryptic is reading this, now might be a good time to give the players an honest and intelligent response to this issue, before the players group up and storm your citadel with torches and pitchforks. Not that anyone from cryptic actually pays any attention to us lowly players.

It's far more likely that folks will Just Stop Playing.

I think that Cryptic has finally found Their way to create Their own N.G.E.

It's not surprising to me that They have announced a Dilithium Bonus Weekend and a Lobi Give-a-way for this weekend.

They are trying to stem the exodus of Their player numbers from this past week.

    THIS^^

I was just in the game doing the patrol mission to get my daily marks and all of a sudden, with one system left, I can't finish the patrol

So basically, I need to finish the mission with a Tau Dewa Red Alert to get my marks for the day...

    Nice

You want to blame someone, blame the devs, not the players for playing the fkn game. The Devs changed it for some mysterious reasons (ostensibly financial considerations).
    Play Hard!

Well if you inved a very low-level toon into the party....., well that was very close to exploiting.

I expect Cryptic only to nerf that nothing more. Still sidekicking should be legit...

Those 2 are supposed to take time from what I understand and I can understand maybe nerfing that. But please don't nerf the ability to level easily to 60 so players can enjoy the new content with out interruption.

That and on Elite, they were dropping at least 1 Superior Crafting bonus every other run.

i would laugh hard if dewa isnt nerfed, but gets similar treatment to dq and the stf.

then laugh harder as i realised that it it would represent a difficulty spike washing its way back through the levels since all that will happen is players do the maths and figure out another path of least resistance.

Already done and has been used since before tau dewa because not works better. Check the first tread about making it to 60.

Figured it would happen sooner or later. If "they" actually gave us good rewards and stopped nerfing everything so we could level at a good pace instead of slow dribble bull TRIBBLE. This is NOT work! I play this game to have fun. Not like I just did with the last mission in the story line by spending 2 hours in it. That's NOT FUN!!! You've turned this game into a long drawn out crapfest of zzzZZZZzzz. This is not an asain mmo. I hope CBS is looking hard at you.

I no longer patrol there, like ever. But nerfing Tau Dewa?! Sorry, Craptic, but this has got to be one of the lamest stunts you ever pulled! And yet, why am I Laughing Out Loud!? Probably because I soooo saw moves like this coming! Hahaha! So incredibly pathetic! Good thing I hastily leveled up, on Elite, fighting endless swarms of NPC's at DS9, before Craptic had a chance to wise up to people doing something as horrible as grinding their XP the way they choose!

Seriously, Cryptic, nerfing every and all ways to get EC, gear, and Dilithium, that was pretty lame already as it was. But I think y'all stooped to a new low, nerfing patrol missions, for the sole reason of having ppl play the new, harder content (read: so they'll buy the new ships out of frustration). Really, could youl sink any lower?! Maybe y'all should ask the Breen to build an Absolute Zero set from your latest decisions.

What's funny is even through here, it would still be a long grind to get all specialization points.

    Here is an idea;

Make the new Delta Patrols a bit less HP per enemy, give a tad bit more XP to make it more appealing. That way, we'd go there and pick out which system we like to patrol to death? :)

In all seriousness, this is what you'd expect human beings to do. Find the most efficient route and eventually a herd will follow. It's our nature.

To which I say - So what?

Even if it ended up being an undiscovered shortcut (which what it really is, as the info box after Mindscape CLEARLY describes patrol missions as a way to level up, and using Elite settings {which are allowable} and going into ANY patrol mission as a full team {which is allowable and has been since forever}, not just Japori/BT/etc.,) it still would have been talked about.

Hence my defense of OP in that thread. It isn't an exploit as it wasn't an illegal use of a game mechanic, as in pre-DR you could also do Tau Dewa Patrols on elite with a full group and get about the same level of XP... but well, you already know by now the great logic employed by PWE/Cryptic. Whatever detracts from the player being a slave to the system set in place by PWE/Cryptic, even if it is legitimate under said system... must be nerfed.

I just fear that the other methods used to powerlevel (which I will not name but can be found if you know where to look for them) will be next on the list. In the end, it is PWE/Cryptic who is going to end up looking like a villain, not the players.

    my $0.02.
WELL IF THE JAPORI INCIDENT HAS TAUGHT ME ANYTHING, IT'S THAT MY EXISTENCE IS AN EXPLOIT. THANKS CRYPTIC.

    Yep,

When they program these games they program to get a desired "expected pattern of behaviour". I bet that even with the vendor nerf drops, there's a still an odd one or two drops that pop up here and there that are actually a usuable piece of kit or that will sell for good EC in the exchange.

This practise keeps players playing repetitively just on the chance that they'll get a decent drop. Sort of like a rat in a cage who gets a feed pellet every time that it hits a button. When you stop providing feed every time the button is pressed, the rat will still keep pressing on the off chance it gets some feed, even if the drop rate is like 1 in 50. But you...oh sorry, I mean...the rat just keeps pressing that button. ;)
