I was struggling to find reasons to play before DR even launched. Ever since the doff UI 'revamp' I've become extremely jaded with the game and the direction it has gone. The devs don't seem to care about our feedback anymore and are more concerned with rushing new systems that have barely been tested then completely ignoring all the bugs they come with. Doffing is no longer enjoyable for me and this new content feels hollow and unenjoyable. I still play just for the slim hope that things get better, but with all the bugs DR has introduced I see now that the devs either have stopped caring or have also become jaded with this game and have stopped playing as well.
Rusti has plotted your course. This is a game. If you're not having fun, then go find something to do that is fun. You can always check back in on STO later to see if it fits your needs better; it doesn't even cost anything.
But staying in a game you're not enjoying doesn't do you or anyone else any favors. Bitterness is not a flavor anyone likes, you know.
Again, besides there point where you read, or that you read it or if you heard it or you made it up or dreamt it.
Or if you live in a trailer wearing a tin foil hat and the microwave oven told you so...
It's certified wrong, the head of SOE came clean:
"Stupid decisions. Complete and utter fail and I am very sorry"
But I will admit it's interesting to observe developer apologism carry over to all games and become a universally biased daddy-issue-wanna-be forum moderator hall minitor phenomenon.
Of course it makes sense now I see it
/edit
ps.
and don't worry daqhegh developers don't actually read the forums so don't stress it
Well, to be fair - Smed didn't mind sticking it to Lucas Arts EA/BioWare at the time either because SWG WAS still making SOE a nice profit; and he was unhappy that Lucas Arts sunsetted SWG to make sure there was no where for players to 'run back to' if SWToR didn't live up to the hype (and BOY it didn't in a major way - but that's another story.)
I say that because SOE squarely laid all the blame at Lucas Art's feet painting SOE as the 'White Knight' developer against Lucas Arts 'bad decisions'. Does Lucas Arts share a lot of the blame for all the things they tried to do to get WoW level subscription numbers, you bet; but SOE shares pretty equally as they were all to happy to roll over when Lucas Arts expressed displeasure at having the most popular IP on the planet (in there eyes) playing second fiddle to a bunch of snotty game developers who (in Lucas Arts eyes) pulled Orcs and Elves out of their butt, and put them in the most generic fantasy setting ever.
Smed knew that SOE would never see another chance at a 'Star Wars' anything; so why not stick all the blame on Lucas Arts?:D
And trust me -in Disney/EA/BioWare's eyes, SWToR is itself performing WAY below their expectations (yes, it's profitable at this point for them after the F2P switch - you could tell from the long development cycle, to 100% VO - they EXPECTED a 'WoW killer and PROFIT - not 'profit'.) If anything SWToR shows what an outlier WoW's level of success always was - and WoW's phenomenal success was due to a variety of marketing and marketplace factors that the MMO genre will never see again.
I honestly believe that if SWG were still a publicly offered 'for profit' game (and I say that because SWG emulation servers exist that some are playing); SWtoR might have sunsetted by now and SWG have seen a resurgence - SWG did have something SWToR has yet to really have - in game player piloted ships (not the cutscene loading things player ships in SWToR are - and no the Galactic Starfighter mini game is not even close to what SWG had in terms of player spaceflight.)
But I digress (sorry...)

Heh, well it's not that far from the topic at hand at all.
Gaming companies, developers and corporations not taking responsibility, ruining games pointless often out of greed, fixing what isn't broken and ignore the actual problems?
Isn't that exactly the topic
You know it'd be real interesting if developers at cryptic have no say in money-zen-dil issues and are victims like us.
I remember al rivera's apology for the doff UI fiasco was they did it in case they one day were going to go knock on the door and ask for permission to add doffing to the gateway -
Ask for permission?
Makes you wonder how little control they actually have, having to ask.
Might be moderators protecting developers protecting corporate and none of the actual people responsible are over on the frontline, we never even learn their names - yet they all a string on the wheel much like we are letting it happen by giving them money.
You know it'd be real interesting if developers at cryptic have no say in money-zen-dil issues and are victims like us.
I've thought about this as well and have concluded the answer is no. There could be some things brought down from PWE (maybe some of the stuff that is clearly driven by marketing person, like putting dinosaurs in the game), but the essential problems existed before the acquisition. Basic stuff like leveing and ranked gear, ability spam, upside-down combat model, all of that, everything today is a result of those first steps taken without PWE anywhere around.
Do you like the gurdian i see you have pictur on bottom
Actually, yes. It's the ONE Federation ship they made for DR that LOOKS like a Fed design (unlike the other 3 and the Dauntless <-- which from what I understand was a fake alien design -- I gave up on VOY after "The 37's" and haven't really watched the show much past that episode.)
The Boff layout is very nice as is its 5th ship mastery; (and it wasn't until DR launched that I saw you had 4 slots for T6 ship Level 5 mastery passives that you can effectively take with you and use with other ships no matter what tier they are.) So, yeah, I'm happy with it on my main Fed engineer.
Funny thing is I only have the Guardian because once I saw the DR Pack could be bought in the C-Store with Zen (for 12,500 Zen), I went ahead and did that because I had 6000 Zen from my LTS stipend and about 2 million refined dil across my characters and with Dill between 160 - 164 for the amount of Zen I needed; it cost me about 1046500 Zen to get the other 6500 Zen - so all in all I got the GR pack and all the stuff with it; and still have refined Dil left over for the first couple characters I plan to focus on for the time being - without spending a cent of real cash on my end (Aside from the LTS I picked up back in 2010 at STO's original public launch. It's not a bad deal as I'll make use of the free crafting Doffs, the 3 T5-U tokens and gear upgrade packs and I still plan to use the two KDF and two Rom ships (that look like Klingon and Romulan designs.)
Originally I was just going to do a couple T5U upgrades for all the characters I planned to continue playing but saw basically the DR pack is a decent deal if you want/plan to use (buy) 4 or more T6 ships, or even 3 T6 ships and want to upgrade 3 of your T5 ships to T5U; so when I saw I had more then enough refined Dil to cover the difference, on the Dill<->Zen Exchange, I figured what the hell.

Today I felt a little sad logging in and basically telling the couple guys online in my fleet that im done.
I have had a good 2.5 yers of fun out of STO, but now, delta rising has all but slaughtered any enjoyment I had left in the game.
Im a single character guy, no alts, one KDF that is 50 but I never play any more. And even with just one character to concentrate on, its just too much grind.
I have maxed out bank and inventory slots, and they are literally full of Rep / Fleet Mk12s. I haven't upgraded anything. For my to upgrade all my sets would take me YEARS with one alt and the dil you can now get (or not, as the case may be). I used to occasionally drop some cash on the game, but haven't in months now.
Absolutely nothing in DR has created even the smallest amount of excitement for me. The new story missions are "meh", I cannot even complete the first one, Mindscape, due to bugs that were reported on tribble and never fixed. Tuvok, Neelix and Seven all look like they have suffered at the hands of a Klingon plastic surgeon. The new Advanced STF hitpoints are hilariously comical, and even the incoming 20% nerf isn't enough to close the gap to being completeable for the vast majority.
I don't like the appearance of any of the T6 ships, the intel boff powers are underwhelming and the specialisation trees seem to be filled with very mediocre stuff. All of the intel powers seem to fall into some kind of disable / expose ability. Nothing genuinely new or interesting. And for what? freaking incompleteable FFAs?
Ive tried to enjoy levelling through DR, but at 54 ive come to realise that there just isn't any interest left for me to even bother continuing.
16 missions, 1 lvl 50 and 2 lvl 60 STFs and some new ships does not "the biggest expansion ever" make. Im not including the kobali battlezone. Ground has never interested me in the slightest and I am very disappointed that the entire zone is once again, ground. Even the new story missions pretty much fall into the same old style we have always had....its getting old fast.
So, from this point on about the only motivation I have for logging in is to speak to some real friends ive made in my fleet. I doubt ill even move my ship any more when I do log in.
I do feel pretty sad about all this. I know my opinion does not reflect on the feelings of others, I just wanted to say that overall, DR has been the death of STO, for me
You do know you can grind dill for your ships right? I just brought them because i wanted the whole pack...Like i said before if you dont like it leave the game and just close the door behind you.. Some times things change everything changes in life even gaming ...Go find what you like to play and leave it as it is and let us Enjoy our game .. I am not blind there is a such thing called people enjoying different things we all not the same you know...Also please stop thinking people live in basements ..I dont live in basement i only put 2 3 hours in game and i get like 40,000 dill and i play all my toons do some stfs i get my stuff done asap.. I also have a wife O_o..Also if i dont do anything i put alot of game time in...
Thank you for completely missing my point.
A casual friendly game is one that allows weekend only players to level and max their gear and whatnot in a reasonable amount of time (as in less than a friggin' year). You say I grind DIL to buy ships...although it's true you haven't considered the amount of time that takes, especially with the massive reward nerf. It's been made very clear that PWE is interested in the most game/gambling/spending addiction prone players and no one else. Weekend warriors are not welcome and there is no room for non-daily 4 hour+ minimum players. If you only have time for a few STFs every few days you'll likely never get far in this game. Just think about that for a while and tell me again how the new ships are technically free.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.
Voyager had some of the worst writing in star trek history.
Nearly all characters were babies - 7 of 9 and nelix's wife are the best example of how they tried to copy the concept from TNG with immature data being the kid asking the deep philosophical questions of its parents.
Only in voyager it worked on such a low level and was so forced it actually makes you angry.
Then they throw a woman captain in there which is sort of confusing because she acts like your grandma and is completely asexual like the writer has some deeply rooted emotional and cognitive problems.
Even the voayger ship was ugly and by the time the first borg cube shows up you start asking how they are able to downgrade the visuals from TNG that started airing in 1989.
A vulcan is best friend of the captain, an eccentric doctor, an angry klingon and an ethnic minority on the bridge?
Sound familiar?
And the uniforms were terrible, I mean I could go on in-definitely
...which kind of indicates that what they really need is some time to chill out. They don't even want their employees relaxing on their free time; just imagine how that translates to gameplay.:D:P
By the way, servitors of the almighty Management, you need to change the www.perfectworld.com link in your PWE About Us page, since that site no longer exists.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
I to am a crafter and trying to farm materials is almost impossible. The drop rate/scanning nodes give junk most of the time. The only way to really get what you need is being held hostage behind a 300 zen wall and then you normally don't get anything you need or that much. Its like cryptic is saying if you want end game items and a end game experiance you have to give us lots of money. Whats even worse than that is, if you are one of the few ppl who have made end game items and have end game ships. What do you do next. Because in STO there really is no endgame. After building yourself up and getting ready to venture out. Cryptic could have at least given us 1 good 5 or 10 man raid. This is BS at its worst.

Your pain runs deep.
Let us explore it... together. Each man hides a secret pain. It must be exposed and reckoned with. It must be dragged from the darkness and forced into the light. Share your pain. Share your pain with me... and gain strength from the sharing.
Episode called The Thaw is a bizarre one at best from Voyager. I would like to see the Demon Planet where it duplicate your entire ship and crew. That would have been neat. But I don't see that in these missions. Nor any time travel.
But why are there 4 sets of Patrols all that does is shoot and blast until the system gives you ending story-line. I see there is a shuttle mission of course I don't have shuttles to use anymore. Press Skip to the next mission then.
Its called grinding dill..i did it before and i will do it again if i wanted to.. I did not say anything is free thank you so much for puting magic words in my mouth...If you dont like the game just leave because your a hard case who dont understandbye what i mean bye having fun.. Grinding is in every mmo if you dont like it stop playing..If you ever heared of Grinding dill for zenny maybe you should read up on it its good Logic..And if you cant understand what i meant on my senctence maybe you should try to reread it.. I play for fun who cares what you think i played all kinds of mmos you think i want to hear you and see on the forms how i hate the game seriouly dude get a gripe of your self...I played alot of mmos i earned my stuff so i pay alittle for here and there thats if you want it now... If you dont have patince for grinding get off mmos

Yeah your hard case who cant understand fun... haha keep looking stupid
Not everyone enjoys grinding. You might, and that's fine. But you seem to have an expectation that everyone else who plays does and that's the reason we play. Repeatable content is exactly that--repetitive. Some of us feel like being forced to do the same handful of missions a million times for 200% less DIL than before is insulting. The fact that you're sitting there your personal style of play (I assume oober grinding) is perfect for everyone makes you look stupid and narrow.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.
Well its what i enjoy if you dont like it do something about it
What are you, 7? Dude, read the whole thread. There are many valid points being made here that you are choosing to ignore. Most of them are longstanding issues, like bug fixing, beta testing, and the like. You can't possibly believe that this game is being run as well as it potentially can be. Come on.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.
Bro i played alot of mmos.. Not much i can do atm ... I just play what i like.. simple as that... Its like when my wife like mario its outdated game and do you see me controling her on what she likes :O.. no i dont because dont care much for what people play it is what it is
This isn't really about what games you like or controlling what you do and don't play. Clearly we both like STO as a game. But again you haven't read the thread. You have no idea what this discussion is supposed to be about.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.
Well i know what you mean .. Pay to win all that stuff grinding .. Dill Not much i can do about sto it self i dont work for them.. so i just play it ...I like it because well its star trek .. and its fun for me but i dont belive i put down 124 bucks on delta pack but i did ...I hate to see people leave but not much i can do some times things turn people off in mmos.. There not much i can do about that ether
I never mentioned pay to win or the DIL aspect or even the T5U upgrade. My OP was about how drastically this game is changed and how the bias is shifted. Read the whole thread or please stop commenting. There's more to this thread than the title. But you won't know that until you actually read it all.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.
yeah i see what you mean.. It changed alot back when i played sto it was different now its this way ... Its kinda like dime toss saved the game but everything cost money .. Or grinding..
And all the grinding amounts to a lot of time that not everyone actually has. Some of us have jobs, family, school, all of the above. I don't think it's realistic to design a game based on the assumption that EVERY gamer is nothing but a gamer. We're people, too. It seems like the most basic humanity has been sucked out of this game. There's no justifiable reason for it to take a year (and likely longer) for things like end game gear, T5 fleets, and whatnot. Even without purposely saving DIL for a ship it's impossible to get enough DIL in game to do all the things it's needed for. Same goes for crafting materials and EC. I would be okay with crafting taking a few to several months to complete. But the way it is now, with all the barriers in place to prevent completing it without paying money, I'm less than eager to finish.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.
