there is like a hundred ships you can upgrade and 8 new ones. If you don't like the new ones, and you do like the look of an old one you want to upgrade then you still need to buy it first. The gap between 5u and 6 is quite small and the arguably no gap between fleet 5u and 6, just different.
You won't be sitting in an upgraded scimitar feeling jelouse of the tier 6 beside you.
The fact that people are complaining about a ship sale really does drive home the fact that, for some still completely indeterminable reason, the forums are overrun with people all too quick to jump onto the 'I Hate Cryptic!' bandwagon, yet apparently insist on playing STO anyway...
Quick, better grab your torches and pitchforks, lest you be late joining in on the lynching!
i jumped on the sale for about 16 ships, most of them T5
finished off my kdf collection, romulan collection and only have 9 left for fed...until new stuff comes out, of course
spent 20k out of 21k zen that was just sitting there collecting dust
can't wait for the next sale, when i should have enough zen to finish off my fed ship collection and grab all the T6 stuff that comes out between now and then
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"

I scooped up the Regent Class, mainly for the 180 degree torpedo which is a useful bonus on any build.
Plus it unlocks another costume for my Fleet version. And the money saved on the cost of the C-store ship can be used to cover the cost of the upgrade later.
A sale is still a sale and I guarantee any of the T5 or Fleet T5 ships, once upgraded, will be more than sufficient for whatever DR throws our way.

Well, i "guarantee" you that that will not be the case, unless you have mkXIII+ equipment of course (that is the real problem, not the ship, as everybody should know).
got the sci vesta yesterday, will get the armitage tomorrow. if i wanted i could push for the vandal destroyer and hope to get it before closing time on the 20% off. in any event, the vesta and armitage ive had my eye on for a while, so just need to push the remaining zen into the artmitage tomorrow and the bojective is done.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
I have decided to buy the T3 Vandal for the Plasmonic Leech. If I can grind out most of the dilithium to convert to Zen for the B'rel Retrofit over the weekend, then I will buy that ship as well.
The T'varo Retrofit is another ship I would be interested in purchasing since the Enhanced Battle Cloak basically solves the problem of low power in Romulan startships (because 40 points of power is devoted to the singularity abilities) as long as I use it as a torpedo ship. But I don't have the time to grind dilithium over the weekend to get most of the Zen needed to purchase both the B'rel and T'varo. Plus I only have one Fed-aligned Romulan toon focused on science and the ship does not have a Cmdr science station. I will probably purchase this ship the next time there is a sale and when (or if) I decide to create a KDF-aligned Reman tactical toon that can really take advantage of this starship.
None of the Federation ships really appeals me; either for their stats or consoles. While I really like free T5 Sovereign class cruiser, the the Regent is not enough of an upgrade over the free ship to justify spending Zen on. I'll just wait for a cruiser that is slightly more nimble than the T6 Guardian. If no such ship is offered then I suppose I will buy the Guardian sometime early next year.
I did pickup a Sci Vesta as well, though it ran me for all the dili I had left. I would imagine that was the point, to drain players' reserves so that they'll be grinding into and through the DR launch to makeup for it (and make those post-launch pop numbers look good).
Still, ~310k dili for a T5.5 ship that both my Sci and Tac can take advantage of with that uni seating, might be able to give my kar'fi a run for it's money in parsing.
I had thought about the Vesta as well since it can do pure Sci, Sci-Eng and Sci-Tac, however at 2,000 Zen with the discount, I'd rather spend the extra Zen to get a T6 starship and not have to worry about upgrading from a T5.5 ship to a T5U ship.
The B'rel is 1,600 Zen so it is a bit cheaper.... and it is a BoP.
Perhaps the Vesta is worth considering during the next ship sale if the upgrade process is not going to be excruciatingly painful when I attempt to do it with the B'rel.

don't buy the t'varo get the small legacy pack. you get both t'varos and a liberated borg reman for the same price. well, I guess for 500 more zen while the sale is active but still...
normally 2500 zen for t5 t'varo or 2500 zen for t1 t'varo + t5 T'varo + Liberated reman doff. it's a good deal

Come on now, people have been running the current STF's (elite or otherwise) in T1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 ships since they came out. And they've also completed them with fighters/shuttles too.
So don't tell me that my current T5 ships aren't going to be able to handle whatever comes out of DR.
The current content is so easy it can be done with the most basic ships and content if you know how to fly the mission, so I really can't see DR being any worse.
Yes the new elite's might be a challenge but once people start learning the tricks for keeping the mission from failing it will become second nature to most reasonable players.
Give someone an Uber ship and they won't be any good unless they know what they are doing. Give an expert player a T2 ship and he'll kick your TRIBBLE with it before you can even react.

I'm no expert on the T5u vs T6 debate, but looking at the DR offerings in science ships, (Dauntless I'm looking at you) , My Vesta, Palisade and especially Wells class will most certainly NOT be obsolete in a few weeks and I fully intend to upgrade them and continue to get a lot of use out of them.
Now, if this simple fact is true with those science ships, I believe that the same will be true with SOME of the other career's ships too. Some ships's will fair better than others I think.
I myself will be taking part in this sale, if only to offer my KDF character's more ship options.
I did buy the DR operations pack, but I intend to upgrade my share of T5 ships as well.
If the Z-store Dyson ships had secondary deflectors, I might be interested, but from what I've read in the forums, that isn't the case. No cash for you, Cryptic!
Unless I misread something again, the only way to get the 'proper' dyson warp core is to buy a 800 lobi DSD for it, if you don't have the free one already.

I smell Voyager refit coming that will lol curbstomp most of the other fedsci ships

That one unfortunately was the one that many of us must have stopped doing the hamster grind on our toons due to being too much work and ending up with it on the wrong toon. It is what ultimately gave us the nice system of being able to do the run on one toon for 21 days and then do token runs on our alts. The downside being that the core is probably relatively rare and still dissuades many people from buying the packs. (although I have been considering it for the DR content)

I didn't see one. Where is it?

No of course they don't get a free uparade,
2500 zen ship
2500*0.8= 2000
^Assuming upgrade tokens are 500 zen, they just gave you a free upgrade
5000 ship pack- savings already=2500
5000*0.8=4000
total savings= 3500 zen
^cost of 7 tokens assuming 1=500 zen
Buy some ships, hold on to the zen you saved, and upgrade in 11 days :D
^^^^^^^this:D
same
if i hadnt just dumped $145 into STO, i would have jumped on this sale for the vandal and who knows what else

Man, you gotta get the Vandal. Probably best value per buck in the game, especially while on sale.
Congratulations! May they all serve you well.
