Really? With DR coming it's only 20%? It should be 50%. Totally underwhelming sale you got there Cryptic.

But, I agree that I would be nice if there was a larger discount since upgrading a T5 starship is not easy or cheap.

The fact that people are complaining about a ship sale really does drive home the fact that, for some still completely indeterminable reason, the forums are overrun with people all too quick to jump onto the 'I Hate Cryptic!' bandwagon, yet apparently insist on playing STO anyway...

Get that. A measly 800 zen unlocks the legendary Plasmonic Leech for all of your KDF captains? Sounds like one heck of a bargain. This is especially true if you have a power-starved KDF-aligned Romulan.

Or there's a logic to it. For one, a sale now makes it less likely there'll be a sale soon after DR launches (I'll be surprised if we get the usual Black Friday sale now). Two, its kinda insulting to receive a 'gift' that looks like a cynical attempt to squeeze just a few extra bucks out of people by trying to encourage impulse-buying of something that'll be second-rate in just 10 days. Three, some people were benefiting from relative increase in the value of their dil, and this throws a wrench in that. Just because you don't agree doesn't mean some reasons aren't totally valid, but you might know that if you weren't too quick to jump onto the 'I Hate Forumgoers!' bandwagon.
I think a -20% ship sale including all ships is a good sale indeed. It's definitely a better deal if you don't want to consider the scope of changes that are about to occur, some of which still have not been given specific details yet. There's a lot of factors involved when purchasing a ship for whatever price & those factors are only going to be expanded with higher priced ships, more ships, more cost to upgrade many current ships, & how utilized will the ship &/or console be for a duration of playing.
As always, to each their own to weigh the value of whether or not to take advantage of this sale or any other sale.
I still think it was improper marketing tactics to begin selling the Operations pack without giving potential buyers all the details of that pack, but some of us players bought it anyways, so again to each their own to decide.
I have plenty of Zen saved-up for their sales, but after they hosed me on an incident after the Dilithium Store closure my days of spending anymore real money is over.
After all, I can only pilot one starship at a time.

If someone cannot stop themselves from buying, what you decry as soon to be second rate ships, then that's no one's fault but the person handing over their wallet...

Anyone else considered the silver lining here? By buying those T5 at 20% off, you will be effectively saving yourself the difference of a T5U upgrade...
If there was still a T5 ship people wanted, now would be the time to buy it and then put the discount toward upgrading it come Delta Rising...
But no, let's all just attack Cryptic for actually putting **** on sale, as those players who are not completely cynical and jaded, might actually spend some money!
I for one am outraged. The sale should be 100% off all ships including T6!
The sheer amount of misinformation that's been spread about T5-U vs. T6...a generation that reads headlines instead of articles...there's little doubt why things are the way they are.
Or... it could just be T5 C-Store ships will be TRIBBLE after DR (especially since they already kinda were). To be clear, I don't care about only 20% off, as I'm not gonna buy any at all. Wait, I just made my point, didn't I?! The ships are currently simply not worth buying any more. In that context, sure, 20% is probably too little if they want to ditch them. But someone who not already has one may perhaps get a collector's item out of it, like a T1 Connie.
About the sale; I'm not overly enthusiastic about it. After all, we'll have to pay even more money to upgrade the C-store T5 ships so I assume that's why people are asking for a bigger discount.
And that's who Cryptic is trolling with their "sales" before it becomes obvious even to the most casual of players that these ships are obsolete and not even worth 20% off.
At least with the lobi ship sale the paltry upgrade was free.

I am well aware. T6 now are better than T5-U. T6 Fleet will be the difference between current T4 ships and Lockbox ships now. If you are considering T5-U for end game and think it will, in 2 months compare in even the slightest to T6 Fleet, then the only misinformed individual is you. Buy T6 now because it will easily outperform the old ships (outside of a few new lockbox ships) and will provide an account wide unlock plus a fleet upgrade discount in the near future.
Nothing you said after that suggests you are aware in the slightest...and I'm not going to quote the rest, because that nonsense has been repeated enough on the forums.
And you know all this how? Fleet T6 do not yet exist, so this is all speculation...

I think your tin-foil hat is slipping... Have you considered this was done for balancing purposes at T5U level?
..and this why so many are upset. Our T5 ships--specifically the hull shapes--will become obsolete with the Delta Rising expansion. Sales are great! If what I'm buying is relevant. I think in this sale the only thing relevant are the consoles you get with the ships (and are they worth that amount of money?).
