You must be new here. I've been here since closed beta, I'm aware of how the KDF was. And we saw how that went didn't we?

    New ? lol

I'm sorry to say but you are going to regreat about this series of posts (my guess is that you are already doing it), and let me explain why:

You came to the PvP forums, which is full of devoted pvp players, and you said something like "pvp doesn't matter". The result? well...you can already see it in this pages, and those who are coming. The entire pvp population (small yes, but big enought to make some noise in the forum) will go hard agaisnt you with in every posible way, and with a good reason in this case.
You may say "who cares"...well, let me tell you one thing that i learned from be forum mod for years (how they call it now, community manager? the traslation to spanish sounds awful lol): avoid confrontation with users. Users are always looking a way of start a riot (especially against mods/admins/devs), and in the end dosn't matter who is right or wrong, your job as mod will fail because you created a huge riot in the forum, and since your job is keep the forums clam and in order....

A free advice, close the post and wait for it to go to the other page before more angry users join the battle.

No, Romulans are an asset to Starfleet or Federation Players. only a TRIBBLE would make a Romulan and sign up with the KDF-the development curve, available abilities, costs, even the equipment-transfer and the power creep are all to the Fed.

I know, you don't play KDF and wouldn't touch it-and who would, knowing where the development effort since launch has been focused, and the open, outright bias from top-down in the staff, to include gents like yourself.

The romulan faction only exists to provide battlecloaked ships with great stats and powerful traits to the Federation. DR only exists to give Fed players additional physical in-game-mechanics advantages and to sell packs to Fed players.

That's all there is to it. all of it.

If the Romulan faction was released totally separate, it would have been born dead. because it would have gotten the same "Monster Play" treatment from the Development staff that KDF has, with the same neglect that PvP has.

Uh... I have a max level KDF (SCI) , two more KDF's that I've been tinkering around an Eng and Tac, and my only Romulan is KDF aligned.

So yeah, I think I play KDF kthx ;)

But of course I don't know what I'm talking about.. and sure I'm an apologist. So I'm an idiot, apparently new to this game not knowing anything, and an apologist.

    GO ME!

At least you admit it now. Before you tried to bring all these BS excuses why you weren't. I'm glad reality has finally set in.

this discussion never gets old i guess.... now, that we experienced it for years how it goes with pvp negated, why not try it the other way round, so we get some reference data to evaluate if pvp would matter for sto or not ....

however and besides all of stahls babbling: they recently, repeadetly said they care for pvp (lol) and will invest into it in the future (lol)...

    did someone hack Askray's account?

because it looks like he is trolling/flaming....

and a mod would never do those things.

The romulan faction would have happened as it's a major asset to the star trek ip, thus bringing in another interest group. Not to mention it was highly anticipated for years and wanted by numerous players.
Oh hey Romulans now there is something Cryptic nailed

    I don't know man,

    I love the solo/dual cue

that's was an EPIC awesome addition to pvp

we got some folks out there that got 1 buddy, JUST 1 buddy that they know that would like to fly with them in pvp, BUT for ages, hated going against the premade, the fleet mades, etc

with the solo dual cue, we now have some fellas out there that are matching up with other pairs, forming teams

(I know because I JUST GOT DONE TALKING TO A PAIR that found another duo to join with via the cue- so what we are in now is a grind/crunch gap, as time spools out, these folks will go on to form proper premades, and, with time will see them in the 5v5 cues- some awesome matches in the future I see for us all with these new up an comers)

plus, lets face it, t6 is a lot like a reset for highend pvp in some ways

so, perhaps, if cryptic would ease up with the grind we will see even more folks pvping,

just to say, my god the pvp cap and hold cue was at 45 WAITING for a match earlier today, I mean that's awesome guys, that's some folks that want to fight right there:)

first off: thx for the short post! :D;)

secondly i have to admit i had to grin. when i started to pew i got roflstomped all over (like all of us i guess). i flamed on the forums, calmed quickly, got advice and made my way up the learning curve. with time my experience to pew improved and i faced several people that gave me hard times.
most of them ended up on my friendslist and in my own chatchannel to form pugmades, primarily for c&h's.
for about one year that channel has been quite active and everybody in there could look out for puggers anytime if he wanted. when i joined lag the activity in there started to decline (as for me, i started with my fleetmates in premades). from some point on i logged on less and less and by now that channel is a nice and quick connection to old friends, but far from active.

    long story short:
the addition is nice and pug-friendly, true. but the pattern stays the same, so if they not attract players to pvp by introducing worthwhile rewards, matchmaking-system, environmental improvements allover, they won't ever make pvp a decent and income-generating feature of the game :(.
the solo/duo q only is like a lifesaving action to keep the ill (pvp) alive. no word about premades now goin into c&h if they're out for some roflstomp.

Lol yes, somehow my years of experience in mmo's makes me an idiot.

Let me bring you down to reality here. PvP was NEVER, EVER A BIG THING IN STO. Not because it wasn't balanced, but because majority of star trek players (which is the majority of this game) don't WANT to pvp.

That's the hard truth. Don't want to hear it or believe it? Not my fault you fail to understand the truth.

I remember not long ago, Dan Sthal (former CEO of STO) said something like this: KDF is never going to be popular because Trekkies want to play with the Federation, the good guys, the Enterprises.

Back in those days, KDF faction was a DISASTER, they had NO PVE mission and it was deserted. Cryptic never develop it because again, it was bad business. But then again, they claim that it was deserted not because it was abandon by the devs, but because trekkis didnt want to play anything else than Federation and Enterprises.

But then LOR came in, and Cryptic claims that Romulan "faction" was a success. So, it seems that ppl didnt play kdf because in fact was TRIBBLE and not because trekkis didnt want to play other faction.

U sir, are doing the same mistake.. how the hell you know trekkis dont want to play PVP? And if you are using a cryptic marketing study, I can tell you that those were WRONG before (again, kdf and rom examples) and they can be WRONG again.

Hoo.. and btw, PVP was more voted than crafting in the cryptic poll..

matchmaking would be nice, rewards would be nice-neither of those is likely to happen, because when it comes down to the end of the day, the Developers don't want to do it.

oh, i'm totally aware of. and i'm not one of those who has any hope left for good pvp in sto lol. though, from time to time, i seem to forget that :D...

On the contrary there will probably be a massive influx, especially on launch.
Will that influx stick around long enough to spend money? Between the Crafting and Upgrade systems as they currently stand, access to endgame gear looks like it will be taking a massive step further out of reach of new players. If those newer players show up, look around at the costs to acquire the things they want, and opt out, they aren't helping support the game... either with their own spending or by serving as fodder for the self-esteem of Whales.

Why is it that the majority of Star Trek players don't want to PvP?

For me, I enjoy the occasional match against a friend or fleetmate, but the difference in gear between being fully set up for PvE compared to being fully set up for PvP is vast. The current strategy of extending time-gates and requiring increasing amounts of farming or spending means that for many players acquiring the gear to participate in PvP (in a meaningful manner) is simply not worth the trouble. Just as bad, for a PvPer, they have to deal with either spending or grinding through PvE when all they want is to go shoot someone that actually knows they were beaten, soundly.

So, many of the systems and design decisions that are coming lately are working directly against broad participation in PvP. It's not necessarily that players don't want to PvP, it's that the game specifically is not built to support it... they even nerfed some of the PvP queue rewards not too long ago because of an exploit, rather than directly addressing the exploit itself. I'm mostly a PvEer not because I don't have an interest in PvP, but because the game makes it more trouble than it's worth.
