Sooo.... why weren't all Federation ships equipped with cloaking devices again? Most of the lore in STO is beyond the pale stupid I just click through the dialogue boxes.

Okay, apprentice lets looks at this.

1: The Treaty of Algernon: Federation from THAT era was forbidden to use cloaking devices. Yes the Federation wanted to honor that. However like Pegasus, there were those that tampered with developing a Federation Prototype.

2: The Dominion War: With the Dominion becoming a security threat to both the Federation, and also the Klingon Empire, and also the Gamma Quadrant. Which of course this includes DS9. In making talks between both the Federation, the Klingon Empire, and also the Romulan Star Empire, since the Defiant was assigned as a security means to patrol the Gamma Quadrant for the security of DS9 the Romulans loaned out the cloaking device as a manner of "Good Will" to the Federation to use on the Defiant to do it's job. Remember even during the Dominion War, the Tal Shiar and Obision Order attempted an alliance to deal with the Dominion and that failed. So apparently desperate times called for desperate measures.

    Sooooooooooooooooo moving along...................

3: Now 2409 STO itself, Jem'poc challenges Martok for Chancellorship in a Blood Duel, Martok is killed. and Jem'poc is the new Chancellor of the Klingon Empire. He declares war on the Gorn because of the gut feeling that the Undine infiltrated the Gorn Hedgeomony. Which he was right. The Federation condomes it, and all diplomacy between the Federation and the Empire are through, done, over with. Caprendae?

    Moving along...............................

4: The Klingon/Federation Arms Conflict, because of the arms race and conflict between the two superpowers the Federation felt it needed to equal the playing field with the Klingons for the security of the Federation. Why you may ask? Because the Federation is a Peace Keeping Organiziation. And the existance of the Federation is on the line. So since the Federation is at war with the Klingons, and the Treaty of Algernon doesn't apply to any of the terms with the conflict, the Federation applies it to their Tactical Escort Retrofit, Dreadnaught Carrier, and make it that is can be fitted on the Avenger Class Battle Cruiser.

5: Delta Rising, okay Valoreah I hope you're up to speed here. If not oh well..............here we go! Because of the events of Dysan, where the Voth were attempting to seize the Dysan Sphere for the effect of stealing the Omega Particales off to deal with the Borg in the Delta Quadrant, and also fear of the Alpha Quadrant moving into the Delta Quadrant. The Federation felt because of the security of the Dysan Sphere, Alpha Quadrant, and also the Omega Directive felt to intercept and deal with the threat. Now if you did play Dysan, the Voth do use a well, "Cloaking Device" and since the Federation is dealing with them it would only be logical to use such a device developed for the Federation/Klingon Armed Conflict and apply it HERE! Lets also note because AGAIN since the Romulan Republic came to power and made itself independant from the Romulan Star Empire and the Tal Shiar since the Iconians made an alliance with them. It is only feesable to conclude that because of the Dysan Sphere, the Gateway existing with in Taw Dewa in Romulan Republic space, and because of the conflicts with the Voth and later the Undine both under Joint Taskforce Command, and later 8472 Counter Command dealing with the Undine threat. That all factions facing a mutal threat that they would share some technologies and allow factions to use other technologies like the "Cloaking Device". Because the Treaty of Algernon doesn't even apply to this timeperiod and conflicts going on as well. Very much like the Treaty of Algernon was excluded to help assist both DS9 and the Gamma Quadrant against the Dominion for the security of the Alpha Quadrant.

Again dude, read up on your LORE please!

Seeing as the then hostile Romulan Star Empire, the other party of the Treaty, was willing to allow the Federation to operate a cloaking ship (the Defiant) in the Gamma Quadrant in order to battle the perceived threat of the Dominion, it only stands to reason that the Cryptic Devs would allow the Federation to operate cloaking ships in the game in order to milk as much extra cash as possible from Federation players. For them to not allow such an exception to the treaty given current events in STO would make no sense in terms of making the most possible money possible, a lore reason will undoubtedly be thought up at some point.

There fixed that for yah, probably closer to the truth anyhow. :P

edit: I doubt the new T6 cloakable ships will have their cloaks deactivated in the other quadrants. ;)

    A more perplexing question was...
    MaHa Raptor

The MaHa Raptor is the most advanced tactical vessel in the KDF fleet. This Tier 6 starship is designed to have unparalleled forward firepower capable of delivering volleys of devastating torpedo fire at its enemies. It is equipped with a Cloaking Device. The MaHa also comes equipped with a Heavy Disruptor Nose Cannon universal console. This console can unleash a sustained barrage of disruptor fire to any starship that enters its range of fire. Enemy ships hit by this weapon will have their engines knocked offline for a short time.

mmmm what, are torpedos getting some kind of boost in X2?

Nice to see the UK is getting royally screwed, the dollar value should put the price in the £70-75 region but because it will have to bought in Euro's that puts in the £95-100 range.
So something that was in the expensive price range has been inflated to the "not bloody likely" price range

Well, the price in € is 119,99 for me. Why ? Stupid taxes cancel the discount. I guess it's good I am not buying it anyway. :o

And one more thing, if all you do is just "click through the dialogue boxes" because the lore in STO is "pale stupid"? Well guess stupid is as stupid does, monkey see, monkey do. You have no one but yourself to blame. Again wasting money in a game, coming to complain on forums. And yet not have the data, or details to back up the argument.

    The door is that way.

You could say that the Cloaking Device is more of a "selling gimmick" or a luxury accessory to help at the glamour of the ships it sells. Although yes, they do adapt the lore to the game, but as I said before it is a game and canon is open to interpretation.

Purchased. Cant wait! Seems like a fair deal to me.

    8 ships?
3 account wide very rare BOffs?
    3 unique very rare DOffs?

    Take my money.

People pay way more than this chasing 1 ship in a lockbox.

That "Guardian Cruiser" looks awfully similar.... Oh yeah, it's almost identical to the Dawnstar Class fan design. I love that ship!
By the way, almost identical ships to all the other new ships are available for Star Trek games as fan designs for years. But that's OK, I always wanted to see those ships in STO anyway.
I'm looking forward to see the Excalibur and the Diligent classes.

(Sometimes a completely new design would be interesting though...)

I do not like the Dawnstar Class but i`me all for the Excalibur and the Diligent classes:D

let's start a tally of how many people have loaded 125$ plus in 1 installment. you'd have done better pwi to split the package delta A an delta B packs in (say) 60$ amounts. That makes your content more accessable to more people. Inaccessable content=less satisfied players. So where's the content for the people who don't or won't or can't afford to unlock these options? I suppose their option is to become more bored. Maybe I'll wait for the first online games review to say, "don't play this unless you're prepared to keep paying over a hundred dollars whenever there's a new release". Piece of advice: sack whoever prepares your launch business plans and use the salary to supplement the cost of packs.

I am willing to bet that this is not the only pack that they will be coming out with.
When released the Romulan expansion there was the Legacy pack that cost $124.99
and the starter packs that were $20.

I am willing to bet that there will be cheaper faction specific packs that will be $20.

    Yes! you are correct sir!

Dude... I have a crappy job flipping burgers for 8 hours a day and even after my rent and all my bills and eating, I can still afford this for $125... I personally don't feel spending $125 on your entertainment is that big of a setback to people, especially if its on a game they enjoy.

Good deal, but it's just not for me. I'll wait for a faction-specific package deal, since my main is a Rommie.

On a side note, that Eclipse Intel Cruiser looks like it belongs in Battlestar Galactica, not Star Trek.

The Tactical Escort Retrofit comes with the Cloaking Device that it can be equipped on the Avenger Battlecruiser. The Dreadnaught Cruiser I believe also also comes with a cloaking device. Showing links for reference.

I'll be honest, my main is a science capt. but I've been playing this game since launch and usually have him in a cruiser as bizarre as that may seem. Right now hes bouncing between a fleet chimera and fleet sov. The Eclipse, if its slotted right, might be my next new shiny!

I'm seeing that I'm not the only one thinking this way. $125 for everything, good value or not, just isn't for me. I would much rather buy a faction specific package.

Pick 1 of the ships, get the BOFF and DOFF of the chosen faction, maybe throw in one of those ship upgrade tokens and I'd be more than happy to pay $25-$30 USD.

Since there currently is no such option, I'll likely just be buying the Fed Science ship with some ZEN earned in game, and leave it at that.

The Delta Rising Opps pack does look nice, and I have to admidt after taking the time to work out the numbers it is a fair price for all you get. However it's simply more than I need. I would have loved to see a "starter pack" like we've seen in STO before.

A choice of one of the new Tier 6 ships, (Personally I'd pick the Federation Science vessel), one of the faction specific BOFF/DOFF. Cryptic could throw in one of those ship upgrade tokens if they were feeling generous, I'd pay $20-$30 USD for that, and feel good doing it, excited about the new content. I'm sure as the months go on and more ships are released I'll be tempted to try some of them also, but a "Starter pack" to get things going right as Delta Rising launches would be wonderful!

Alas, since no such option exists, my current plan is to just use some of the Zen I've earned in-game to buy a T6 ship from the c-store.

The blog and buy page clearly says you won't gain access to any of it until October 14. You would be making a pre-order purchase basically.
