Not a fan of having to pay more zen to upgrade my ships and then having them end up being subpar to the tier 6 ships especially when half of my captains ships won't be upgraded for free and they all use different ships.
I'm wondering the same thing, is upgrading to tier 5.5 or whatever even going to be worth it? I know their claim is that they'll be on par with a T6 but Cryptic's track record speaks for it's self. Do whatever rakes in the cash, I'm sure the new T6 ships will have much higher stats and be stronger than a upgraded T5. My prediction is we either stay left behind with a under performing, obsolete, junker or buy a T6, probably at some ridiculously inflated price. Maybe they'll atleast throw us a bone and let us edit the T6 ships a lil so they don't look so weird.
Its oddly nostalgic, this thread. Probably because there's been a nigh identical one about every thing Cryptic's done since closed beta. Heck, before this game existed...anybody remember Vibora Bay? Cryptic's greedy, game is doomed, anyone who disagrees is a fanboy, yadda yadda ad infinitum.
Nah, I disagree. Earlier in the thread I linked the thread from S6 discussing the Fleet ships. That thread went 8 pages...8 pages. Look at this thread, eh? Look at threads around the forums, eh? While there have always been complaints about things, there's little comparison to the increasing insanity that arises in the threads as time goes on.
I'm sure the new T6 ships will have much higher stats and be stronger than a upgraded T5.
Based on what?
You know that the +1 BOFF ability will be taking a LCdr to a Cmdr seat?
You know that the Specialist BOFF abilities will be massively better than normal BOFF abilities so folks will have no problem giving up something considered necessary in exchange for those new abilities?
Cause the T5-U11 ships is going to have +1 console, +10% hull and shields compared to the T6. You know those two things above that will make the T6 better than the T5-U11 rather than competitive with it?
again, when did I ask for the T5 upgrade to be free? I must have said in like 5 or 6 posts now I'm not asking for that, I'm simply saying that if lock box ships and lobi ships are free upgrades than cash shop ones should be too or they should all require payment. your the one choosing to interpret that as me asking for free stuff.
Because of the "cost" involved...
Cryptic collects, say, $25 for the "average" T5.5 Starship on the C-Store. Said starship is an account unlock (so $25 can outfit 10 characters, for example)...
Once you understand that Cryptic's collecting $$$ from somewhere for the lockbox keys, they collect, on average, $200 per Lobi ship (average of 5 lobi per box, $1.25 per master key) and on average $1,250 per lockbox ship (assuming odds are really .1% of scoring grand prize, means a 1 in a thousand chance...) And, this is a one toon one investment deal, so outfitting 10 toons in lobi ships = 2,000, lockbox ships $12,500...
So yeah, if they've received the equivalent of a half dozen lifetime subs for one ship, then yeah, they feel justified in making them "free" upgrades - unless you want to be paying $200 per ship in Zen (per toon)...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

Isn't almost all the new content going to be balanced around T5 anyway? And I'm sure there will be people doing even the T6 stuff with T3 ships a month or so after it comes out.
People are asking "why are they charging for upgrades?", when they should be asking "what's the point of upgrading at all?"
You know that the +1 BOFF ability will be taking a LCdr to a Cmdr seat?

Your forgetting something, they haven't actually posted the stats for the new ships yet and it's not hard to see that the numbers are going to be something they think will sell. If you want to believe the stats will be the same as what we have now you can but I doubt it. Theres going to be more to those ships than just another bridge officer slot because 1 more chair on the bridge isn't enough to make us all rush to spend, spend spend.
Virusdancer, you're arguing with someone who has already left STO. Why waste your energy when you can put your keen mind to informing people who aren't full of hot air?
Nah, I disagree. Earlier in the thread I linked the thread from S6 discussing the Fleet ships. That thread went 8 pages...8 pages. Look at this thread, eh? Look at threads around the forums, eh? I think it's a function of the increased numbers of players. 8 people posting 10 times only gets you 80 posts. But if you have 180 players....
lol who's crazy rhetoric? what I'm hearing is that anything I buy on STO, gold membership, cash shop, whatever means someone else has invested in STO by my doing that, not me. and somehow I'm considered weird for finding that argument a lil odd.
No, just stating a fact, that people who got lock box ships and lobi ships didn't spend as much on them as they want everyone to believe. I'm sure a lot of those lock box keys were bought via energy credits or zen obtained from selling dilithium earned from other lock box's mine claim items. Your math is counting on someone opening hundreds of lock boxes with each key having been paid for with zen they bought with real money.
Whats wrong with what you just said, lets see, Zen bought with dilithium via the exchange is zen that was bought by a player with real money and then sold by THAT player to others for dilithium. In other words: Regardless of how the zen or zen item made its way into the hands of the player, it was still payed for by real money to Cryptic/PWE.
That's a really dumb argument and here is why, If I buy a master key from the exchange, I'm paying energy credits which is obtainable in game very easy. Your saying yes, so? it was still bought with zen, while that is true, it wasn't my zen that bought it, therefore I got a free master key that didn't cost me real money. Making any since to you? Let me try it this way, I buy X item and give X item to you, does that mean you paid for it? no, it means you received it as a gift and therefore was free to you.
it doesnt matter what the final curency used is, the initial transaction was for real money
to purchase the zen, to get the key, to use or sell the key, to open the box, to get the ship
or the lobi, to sell the ship for ec or buy a ship for lobi to sell for ec.. the point is regardless of
how you aquire a lobi or lockbox ship, cryptic have received real money for it.
we where just trying to explain the way the system works
here's a thought, i'm guessing people could just avoid playing the expansion and never
enter the Delta Quadrant.
Definitely not happening.
Everybody and their mother taking the dog too for a walk WILL go on a ride to the Delta Quadrant
to complete it 100% before ever leaving for returning to current space.
Heck, it's the only reason why people voted for it in the poll asking players which series to focus on for the next expansion,
altough it's arguably the worst series of Trek, Voyager introduces a whole new quadrant to explore for players.
i'm sure i read that there will be no changes to the current
end game. that would maintain the staus quo for those who 'didn't sign up' for the
expansion and would save a boatload on upgrade costs. people used to do that in wow,
there where entire guilds that capped at level 60 on some servers.. just because they
make it doesnt mean you have to play or pay for it (think i may have stolen that quote
from a post somewhere else in this thread)
Everybody always sign up for the expansion, since expansions in STO are free for all and automatic.
The comparison with WOW is no match, WOW's expansions have to be bought.
The whole T6, T5U thing is the way they choosed to profit
(last time, with LoR, it were the outrageous high priced packs, that nobody bought and they had to change)
The problem is, most players aren't happy with this solution too.
We prefere to fly our favourute ships and not to pay again for the same only to be a little more but no longer max level.
The only solution which would make everyone happy is to pay to upgrade T5 to T6.
And the only way to obtain it is to boicot both T6 ships and the T5U upgrade.
This is definitely possible, however difficult because PVPers are as always already eager to have their hands on more powerful ships
(you can bet your head they'll skip T5U and save resources to go full T6)
so I bet the only feasible option is to boicot T5U upgrades in protest in order to obtain T6 upgrades.
I still dream from time to time about using the Gateway to doff off-game in spare minutes as we were told
Don't know if it's been said yet, but in case it hasn't, here goes...........................to all of you that are going to rage-quit, can I haz your stuffz????
Sorry, had to say it. :D:D

Lost and Delirious... and Disenchanted too Apparently some forum posters have diplomatic immunity nowadays, where can I get mine?

Due to naming and shaming policy, I can not name names. But there are a few people in this thread who have quit STO a few times already in the past. Yet, they're still here despite saying they're leaving.
Usually, it's those same people who are among the first to say that Cryptic said something that didn't come true in the past. Therefore, they shouldn't believe them now.

Irony or Cognitive Dissonance? You be the judge!
I go with malice. Some of them seem to have no reason to come to the forums except to harass people who actually play.

Best post on the whole forum. Iconians know everything. I love you
Another important point: we haven't see the stats for the new ships, yet. Why have people decided that they how they work already?
lol I'm not deciding anything, I'm just saying that when you look at STO's development, it's about 1 thing, money. Most people agree that theres little if any "Star Trek" left in Star Trek Online. Why? because it's all about the money. Why do we have lock boxes in the first place? Money, why is the odds of getting a ship from one almost none existent, money, everything on there is about money and about how to get us to spend all we have then spend some more. So from that it's not a hard leap to assume the T6 ships will have stats far above the T5 because that's what will sell.
I think it's a function of the increased numbers of players. 8 people posting 10 times only gets you 80 posts. But if you have 180 players....
For the most part though, it's the same people over and over and over and over again...giving the appearance that there are countless folks moaning when it's a handful. It's no different than it was with the Trait change, the DOFF UI change, etc, etc, etc.
Folks used to go into a thread...drop their complaints/feedback...and get on with their lives.
Folks these days...seems like their lives are to complain in threads.

Thanks for the blog. Lobi and lockbox ships being free to upgrade is all i needed to now.
Zen ships for Zen is a bit annoying but at least I'll finally have a reason to farm dilithium again. Already having everything i wanted, i didn't know what to farm for, lately.
Upgrade specifics sound reasonable. Don't really need the new T6 gimmicks anyway.
Bring on Delta Rising, now that I can finally look forward to it.
