If we see a "ton" of new playable ships, they'll likely be gated behind a new lockbox and/or some new off the wall designs (such as the Dyson Science Destroyers). Or more likely, cross faction alien vessels.
I don't see any factioned flavored (or canon) ships in the near future. And if the KDF gets a new ride added to the line-up, I'll be surprised.
The thing that I do not understand is why folks keep asking for a "new" playable species. They all play the same regardl;ess of whether you are Klingon, Federation, or Romulan. Even the feature episodes play the same. NPC's do not react differently, story lines do not change, and with some minor exceptions in ships, there is really no difference.
In fact, and although I'm a total STO addict, the entire game plays the same. What bloody difference does it make if you add yet another playable species. Heck, just get to the tailor and create your own species. It will play the same.

i suspect you have never played a second or third faction.
granted, cryptic are doing their best to destroy anything resembling faction identity, but to say a rom using battlecloak, singularity, and sro boffs is the same as a vanilla fed in a galaxy is pretty preposterous.
I expect to see more 2410 Ships. Mostly modernized takes on ships we already have in game. We've seen Cryptic take steps in 9.0 and 9.5 to modernize and create uniformity. I suspect we wont see the end of this trend for awhile.
If you don't like what Al has to say you don't have to listen, its all part of being a grown up with personal responsibilities, and self control. Personally, I think Al tries his best, even while forum randoms claim their ideas are always the best thing ever. Rest assured though, the more bitter you sound, the easier it will be for him to tune you out,and pretty much everyone else will too. Sure things can be changed about the game, but if you are all doom and gloom, why even hang around? What a sad life.

You must have missed the part in my post about some differences in ships. Hey, it happens and as for my toons, I have at least one of every faction but that's not the point.

Some people like the idea of multi-factions or mini-factions. Of course only one faction has proven to be viable in this game Fed or Fed/Rommie.
That said - new races/new Factions and new ships - as long as new content comes with them - should be welcomed by everyone.
Not everyone likes to roll up an Alien Gen and pretend they are something, with the same story content as the base faction.
So more factions/species and more ships for those factions/species = a win in my book.
Of course in reality we are all one big happy Fed family:rolleyes:
I just want the FLEET GURAMBA. Its about time already. :P
Well I believe him when he says it will be here for expansion 2.
While the Mogh was a copy/paste - Al did say a month or so before it was released that it would be coming - so I would not dismiss his 5/2 Raptor comment either.

Excusing why Devs have zero commnucation with the players is just as bad as someone who post non-contructive rants. Yes I do think a lot players who have been posting on the forums do have good understanding of the game because these players are the most hardcore and know the systems and game mechanics. Be happy or shut up post are not productive either. We only got one Star Trek mmo and a lot people know it can be and should be better then what we have been getting.
We had a huge playerbase pre launch that was hype about a Star Trek mmo and we lost majority of them over the years, some of it is not Cyptic's fault and some of it is.
Maybe tons of ships can mean like a tactical, engineering and science class of all the ships we already have, for an example you can have a science d'kora?

The thing is posts have already crossed the line from Legitimate evidence based criticism about specific things , and into personal ad hominem attacks.
At this point it becomes counter productive to Dev-Player community discourse.
This is not to say that all negativity is invalid, that is just terrible logic, But there is an unpleasant presence of what I can only describe as Emotional Outbursts and rants which drive away any constructive interaction with Devs.

You may be overestimating the meaning of what he said. It sounded to me as their problem is more like that they can't simply import ship data from one branch to another. Whatever process they have for creating or adjusting a ship (and testing these changes), they would have to do it twice. That doesn't necessarily mean the ship actually changes.
So backwards compatibility and configuration control fails between branches?
A world to defend
A city to protect
innocents to save
"Why?" They ask "they hate you"

Possibly. At least considered likely enough that it requires to repeat all QA? I don't know, as players we know next to nothing about the internals, so we can all just speculate. I just don't want people to get their hopes up here.
The whole branch issue could also be why secondary deflectors keep being delayed. Implementing them once in the old and once in the new branch is probably not desirable either. (But, to avoid getting anyone's hopes up - that doesn't mean that they will be in Expansion 2. Just that they will most likely not come before anymore...)

You aren't the only one, as I think the same. Not sure what new ships can bring to the game.
Scam box ships are just rehashes of what is already available, you are paying $200+ for skins at this point..
Would however, love for the KDF to get a bunch of Fleet level cstore ships, like Fed and Rom, but that is all dreams....
am i the only one who really dont care for a lot of new ships i mean really we all have more ships than we know what to do with.......................................
yea, no... Even the KDF have enough ships... All my 4 KDF characters agree on this.
Because: What does a thousand ships to chose from help, if there are no enemies to brutally slaughter and steal from, like the bullies, thives and thugs we are while KDF'ing?
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
With the exception of the fleet Guramba, i also think that there is no need at all of more ships. I prefer quality instead quantity. But since the first is almost impossible to get from cryptic, we all know that they will always prefer the second. Because quantity = more oportunities to sell, of course.
wont matter how many ships they stick in scam boxes or c store you can only utilise one . so my garage of ships i allready have is useless to me anyway. why add anymore
If I had to guess, I'd say that what's referred to as "new ships" will actually be makeovers of a number of existing ships that need to be "shined up" a bit. Definitely would include some of the existing iconic ships like the D7/K'tinga.
Eventually, the devs are going to run out of layout combinations for any new ships. If they are "updating" existing ships while also adding new ones, maybe they are starting to see a problem with their current ship design system?
I'd really like to see them develop a modular system to where we, the players, create our own ship layouts, choose a skin, and go on our merry way.
X number of points for each weapon slot. (for/aft)
X number of points per console slot. (Eng, Sci, Tac)
X number of points per stat (Base Turn Rate, Hull, etc.)
X number of points for BOff stations.
Will it happen? Doubt it. Just something I thought would be nice.
Maybe in the future, when they run out of ideas... or they do something similar as part of T6? Maybe allow us to "upgrade" our lower tiered ships (including Fleet level ships) to this level? Maybe get some sort of "Starship Refit Device" through the C-Store or as a Special Reputation Project (Probably through the Events Tab). Let's say... if you complete all the regular reputations (Omega, Nukara, Romulan, Dyson, Joint-Command) then this Special Reputation Project would unlock. Put whatever is required to fill the task, and after the cooldown, get your Upgrade.
I wouldn't recommend using the crafting system though.
With a system liike this in place, all the devs would need to do regarding ships is just make skins, map the skins to where things like weapons fire comes out, etc. and sell the skins in the C-Store, Lobi Store, as even Mission Rewards.
Just something to think about anyway.

Unless you play the KDF anyway.
That is just game updates, they do that on the forums too.
