And I declare Naz and the good old Sad Pandas Fleet the winners!
Why? Well, it's very simple...it's a matter of prestige and reputation and the evul Klinguns don't recognize this because they want to mock one of the most famous and lethal Fed Fleet!
If the Sad Pandas new members wanna fight the evul HOBOs, without a doubt currently the strongest KDF Fleet, they must be at least as strong as the old Sad Pandas players.
The fame of your Fleet must be preserved and not ruined by bad defeats and the inevitable teasing.
Call your Fleet for example The new Sad Pandas or Nexgen of Sad Pandas.
Be yourself and accept the risk of being defeated, don't hide behind the fame of the Sad Pandas name, you honor this venerable name without using it, seek the glory with a new name to identify your PvP premade, leave intact the awesome memories of the old Sad Pandas team.
And kill'em'all the evuls!:D
Don't know why it says i'm an ARC user. i will never use that TRIBBLE Cryptic!
One of my favorite deaths back when I had Fed toons came from an ISC duo...it was pretty awesome. Memories getting faulty, but pretty sure it was a Korath and Krenn - Tac and Sci - Phased Polarons and Elite Disruptors...absolutely shredded a guy that would normally fly around going wheeeee in a Chel Grett out in the open before all of my wheeee shenanigans with Willard from the shadows.
yes i remember them i think... brothers weren't they? been racking my brain trying to remember. their names... mike i believe was one... they went to a TRH subfleet which i also forgot the name of. they haven't been around in forever either.

Meh, yeah - it's uh - wow, remembering things like yesterday when they were forever ago...bah.
a panda in this very thread said they are working on a side project... to pvp i'm gathering. another said they have 5 or 6 active members. rather ones that log on from time to time.
forgive me, i may be wrong, but aren't the q's set up for 5v5?
anyway, it still doesn't answer the question of why existing members must change their tag in order to PvP.
honestly, i don't care. curiosity is getting the best of me though. :P
I am not going to go and type another letter explaining the situation. I am just going to confirm that yes you are right there are 5-6 Pandas that log on semi regular. I am one of them and have no intention to be premading it up at this time. I will again at some point. Right now I have nothing to prove to anyone and am just enjoying doing what ever I feel like. Its summer time I'm not going to block off an entire afteroon or evening on a weekend to play with a bunch of trek nerds when I should be outside playing with my children.
Like I explained earlier of the small handful logging in I am assuming around half of those are just not in a serious premade mood.
The side projects are all the same friends anyway. They will likely pull together a few more people that feel like doing some premade from other fleets. Lets face it we all know each other and with only really a small handful of exceptions everyone gets along.
I would say at this point if you don't feel the same way.... perhaps you are one of the small handful of folk that don't get along.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
to validate my theory, in a recent thread, HoBO essentially challenged the pvp community by claiming they are the best fleet {which they are of course}.
the only people to respond to the challenge, were from a old dead fleet, where most of the players have moved on to other games, who can't\wont even field a 5v5 premade match.
3...2...1...GO!
The sad truth is most players in STO are casual players, like myself. I read here that many people use macros and have mouses, even some custom-made super expensive gaming mouse just to have that tiny little edges in PvP. I just have a plain vanilla keyboard and never used any macros. It baffles how some people seem to take this game way too seriously. Try to remember that most of us have a life outside of STO. Coming to STO to punch some HOBO and hear them QQ is our way to be entertained from those who obviously think they are better than the rest.
Alas, the problem is we are too few in numbers. I am in a mid-size fleet where every holding is completed and the Starbase is at T5 but there are only 2 people who pvp regularly and that includes myself. If both of us are on and in Kerrat, we can easily make a bunch of HOBO cry for mommy but then, HOBO has this call button that is 10X more effective than Nimbus Pirates where in a span of less than 5 minutes, a whole armada of no less than 10 HOBO ships will suddenly appear within the same Kererat instance throwing all kind of space cheese all over the place. What do you want us to do with just 2 people?
I was asked recently : *Where is Iskan, your main? Does he PvP at all anymore?* The answer is absolutely, he is on a Timeship shuttle. Last weekend, one of the Admiral in our fleet who is friends with other fleet leaders organized a fun match called : *Shuttles vs. Odyssey*. So we were a bunch of shuttles attacking a single Odyssey in a private queue and it was a lot of fun. They even gave out prizes. These are just casual players and you can tell from the prizes they gave out that most pvpers wouldn't even want them but the match was fun and friendly, nothing hard core. That is what gaming is supposed to be, socializing. There were people from several different fleets, even one Klingon but we all had fun, there was no QQ or any harsh words. Everyone was courteous and polite. At the end, the other fleets have a positive impression of us and the feeling was mutual. These are fleets most pvpers probably never heard of but they form the overwhelming majority of the playerbase in STO. The hardcore PvP fleets is a tiny minority. I don't think the playerbase of STO is as young as some people think, there are a lot of people in their 30s and 40s in this game given that Star Trek the Next Generation first aired in the 80s and a lot of the young fans back then would have been in their 30s and 40s already, if not older.
The bottom line is there is a lot more to PvP in STO than just the so called 5 vs 5 premade matches. Many people organized their own private PvP in creative ways while making sure the participants have fun and they remain friends, unlike some rivaling fleet who obviously take this game way too seriously, more often than not.

If so, can I please have a call button so that whenever I see HOBO congregating into a massive ball in Kerrat of 10+ ships ganking one or two poor Feds, I only need to press it and all of sudden an equal number of Sad Pandas will suddenly appear, herd the HOBO into a bamboo bubble gum and flush down the toilet?

Impossible. Ker'rat feds are allergic to teamwork.
i'd say they just don't need it, or it's worthless to try. depends on the circumstances
