What is the Arc Client?
Install Arc

What's that ? they remove stuff

grazyc2#7847 grazyc2 Member Posts: 1,988 Arc User
I read yesterday a thread from a cryptic worker they remove stuff, because it would take up to much space to install the game .... And they miss out on hundreds of people wanting to play the game.

On what end this is true ?

Question for Cryptic ever heard of people ranting, they could also post false messages about this, I hope you guys get a good confirmation before deleting anything out off the game !!!
That said lets make some points. So they want to remove exploration clusters because it would take too much space to quick install the game.

Lets take the point people, Do people read the specs and made their household pc ready to even play any game before start ranting on Facebook or Twitter they can't install STO.

How is STO too big I installed it yesterday it took the download 15 minutes to complete and then it was ready to play and I selected the full game with On-demand patching OFF.

If this MMO going this way to be a mark stand believe me people will start to walk, if you start deleting all the stuff you think it takes to much space...

I can tell you this get me ticked off a bit ....

What does my fellow players have to say about it ??

You're fellow players have quite a lot to say about it. There have been quite a few threads on the matter both here, and on the tribble forum; as well as a nice big argument in the news thread.

STO is roughly ~10 gigs, not including installs for tribble and redshirt or a large screenshots folder. So I wonder how much it would shave off by removing all of the cluster exploration missions.

My live directory is only 12.7gb. Add screenshots, demos, test servers, what not, my dir comes out to about 30 gb (29.3, wow!)

I disable on-demand patching, so my Live folder is ~17GB (plus about 2GB of screenshots).

He didn't link any thread, sparky. You missed the point and that little line that separates "post" from "signature."

Well on this new forum design that line is a little hard to see. Just sayin, not taking sides... yet. :P

Is it? I can't tell, I'm an original member of The Rebellion and still using that lovely Stylist-thing that lets me go right on with the old design. Once in a great while it hiccups and I see the new scheme...but a quick refresh followed by a stroll outside and I recover pretty well. ;)

Holy. There is a line there. I can't see it when I look right at it, only if I look near it. Like trying to see faint stars in the night sky.

(No not being sarcastic, I never saw it till he mentioned it was there and I looked.)

I just want to know, what decade the developers are living in? What do they think we use? reel to reel mainframes like in the 40's? This is the 21st century, hasn't anyone told them yet? You can't find a computer of any sort anywhere that doesn't have at least a 500gb hard drive and as much as 2 or 3 terabyte, I hardly think STO's file size is an issue.
As far as how much of a download it is, lets take a pole, who here is playing the game on dial up? anyone? If your using broadband internet it doesn't take long at all to download.
So whats left? newbies getting lost in the star cluster maps? really? we sure we wanna go there? getting lost on a map that's just a tiny square? You take all these into consideration and I see no need what so ever to remove star clusters and their missions and duty officer assignments, and the 1 first contact mission they decided to give us whenever we reached t4 diplomacy.

Explains a lot, actually. See, I'm running this cheater script that makes the forums look like they did before they were assimilated by ARC. On my screen with the old black background, you'd have to make a serious effort to miss that line. :)

it`s a pity when anything is removed but I guess they look at the parts that get little or no use and start there, I guess I will miss the opportunity to get the accolades but when you think I have been playing this long and have barely scratched the surface it shows how boring it was and how little I played it as a result.
I would have preferred if they had updated the content there and perhaps added to it some to make the whole thing more interesting then perhaps people would play it more and make it worth keeping in.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

I guess this extra ~200Mo was what prevented player to test this game. Who would have thought ?

Meanwhile, thousands of players try games on steam for "free weekend", and they take a lot more to dl. While lasting only 2-3 days.
Also, you can play titanfall or the new wolfenstein, if you dl 50Go.

I think the more likely reason is the exploration is horrible, and they want to hide it under the carpet, so star trek fans doesn't try it (expecting exploration) and leave the game because it's bad.
Otherwise, it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Of course it's bad, but it's the closest thing we ever gotten to Exploration.

And what's funny, a 30 year old PC game, based off Star Trek, had 100x more exploration than STO ever had.

I'm surprised people are surprised as in a past interview Al Rivera "Gekko" went on record as saying STO had too much content. (and I'm not kidding.)

Personally, I think they should put Gekko on a Cryptic project that matches his vision of content - "Champions Online" which maybe sees new content once a year. His views on new MMO content would be very at home there.

Yep. Terradome axed for a lousy excuse as well.

And even if they weren't 'good' I enjoyed the fact that I could play a randomized adventure.

In a game that is slow in delivering content and doesn't have as much compared to other MMOs; removing content instead of fixing or improving it is lazy and inexcusable.

I can see where he's coming from though. If we stretch the population too thin, eventually the Federation queues will start looking like the KDF queues. As in hardly anyone will play the queue YOU want to play because they'll be trying to get in the dozens of other queues available.

Though too much solo PvE or PvP content? Not buying that.

well that couldnt be ummm because no one really likes there rep grind mission they keep putting out???????

but too much content sounds more like the logical reason..................

edit im sorry for being like this but this too much content - it being removed because new players get lost - its taking up to much space its just just ......................................

Except they're not removing Queues ... on the contrary that's the only thing they're adding lately ... so instead of the next Rep/Queue Grind add some FE, or you know "Exploration" (back) [single-player-ish content] => problem solved ...

Considering Cryptic keep adding unused queued content, it's not going to happen. Many STF are not played because the reward is bad, it's too long, it's annoying, or more likely, all of that.
And that's not even mentioning bugs (from time to time) that make them even less interesting.

considering that the stuff that they remove is something i havent played for 2 years now, means that i really don't care.
The missions were monotonous, and basicaly only served to grind for crafting mats.

i salute every effort of the devs to polish up the game by removing or revamping sub standard quality content.
If they judge the content to be "beyond repair", it probably is without hope to upgrade it.

They should take a look at the remaining fleet actions like klingon scout force, breaking the planet, Starbase 24, ...
Those have great potential for PVP battlezones that include NPCs fighting on each side.
    Go pro or go home
