Probably. I wasn't focusing on the retrofit/refit part (they've never really set in stone what the tangible difference is).
AFAICT, a refit is the same class as the original with a console added (c-store upgrade), while a retrofit is a rebuild resulting in an upgrade to a higher tier.

I like the look of the C-Store version. Though I'm a bit saddened that I already spent $20 on my current fleet patrol escort and now it's being replaced.
Also, when are you going to fix the Prometheus (Multi-Vector Advanced Escort)? It still comes to a dead stop during separation, the alpha section doesn't extend it's warp nacelles any more, and the parts you're not flying usually arrive at the fight after you've already killed everything, not to mention they don't have your ships decals etc they are just bog standard.

Ah I see what you are doing Crytpic, very smart! It looks to me like they are "filling the gaps" by making sure there is a c-store ship wedged between the free tier 5 ships and the fleet versions. The patrol escort was one of the few ships left in the ranks in which the fleet version was direct refit of the free version. They did the same thing effectively with the galaxy reboot and I expect them to continue this trend. The question is how will they address ships with lower level C-store versions? If the Galaxy reboot is any indication we will be getting several more tier 5(.33?) versions of other ships such as the Defiant. Eventually Cryptic's goal is to make every fleet ship an upgrade of a tier 5ish c-store variant.
Despite being an obvious money grab it will allow them to overhaul several ship lines and hopefully make them more competitive. That being said, Cryptic has tons of work to do on the KDF side. But I gotta say I'm looking forward to the possibility of tier 5ish C-store Raptors and Raiders to choose from.

Yeah, I like to know that, too. I've been wanting a new dedicated Escort as I've ridden the heck out of my Fleet Ambassador and this would be a good way to shunt me back into Escorts.

Anti-Raider tail gun and the ability to run a Aux2Bat/Aux2Damp build on thick, decently agile frame, I think that Cryptic was actually targetting PvP with this.
Though, a 'Sci Destroyer' would work well for this too in PvE, DOff down the Tac powers (just so happens that the current Lock Box DOff box has cooldown DOffs for most Tac abilities) and Gravity Well everything into a clump to hit high-yield with the new Undine Rep Torp (not one of the freebies, the one that costs Dil and Marks) to keep them in place while racking them with fire darting around like a WW2 fighter plane instead of the usual sit and spam.
Seems like the devs made another bad choice by giving the Feds another ship when the KDF and the Rommies need at least 2 or 3 more.
Hell, my Fed Tac with her Heavy Escort Carrier can still make mince meat outta the new Patrol Escort.
But since the blog is giving a 502 Bad Gateway...Hopefully they'll pull this stupid idea and give the KDF and Rommies a desperately needed ship.
Oh, BTW, the Scimitar without the broken console from the Valdore, it can be a easily beaten ship. I'll take a T'Varo Retrofit over the Scimitar on any given day.
That said, I'm a bit iffy about the decision to retire the vanilla Fleet Patrol Escort. Why not just add the Fleet Patrol Escort Refit as a separate ship and let people choose which one they'd rather purchase?

Personally I'd suggest leaving the vanilla Fleet Patrol Escort at T1 and adding the Fleet Patrol Escort Refit (maybe rename it as Fleet Tempest-class to lower confusion) as something requiring a more developed Fleet Shipyard...say T3 or thereabouts.
Fully agreed. I find this decision troubling. I don't like the idea of withdrawing ships which are just fine that people may well be saving up for or otherwise might enjoy.
I don't see how leaving the old FPE in would cost the company anything. If anything it'd still produce a bit of revenue just by virtue of being an available option for people who can't stand the new FPE for whatever reason, or like the inherent tankiness of the ship.
I suspect that it might be that the Fleet Patrol Escort might be thought to be encroaching on the Steamrunner's territory, but I'm pretty sure that there are some pretty distinct differences in play; I've never had a Patrol Escort, but I do have the Steamrunner, and although it's a very versatile ship, the lack of the Lt. Sci is noticeable, and can produce a bit of a difference in play style. I imagine for sci captains it's more pronounced.
Plus the Steamrunner quite frankly is a lot more rare because of HOW it's acquired - one of the few ships that must be obtained for cash out-of-game. Yet, it's in a pack with other goodies intended at least partially for beginners. So I don't see a whole lot of market overlap necessarily; most vets that want both may well get both.
Nevertheless I very much dislike the thought that retiring/replacing ships like this could become a trend for whatever reason.
