So, any chance of a dev acknowledgement of this clearly obvious bug?

Agreed, and there is a new blue jacketed, un-interactable romulan male in Romulan Command center on New Romulus. THink he is our guy, just he didnt get scripted or something.

I just noticed something that might be a clue to the problem - when getting the "Reinforcements" mission from Centurion Velaar on my KDF-aligned Reman, the mission system text announced that I had picked up the mission and immediately completed it:

    [Mission] Acquired mission: Reinforcements

    [Mission] "Reinforcements" complete!

It still shows in my mission log and mission tracker as needing to be completed, but if the system has somehow flagged it as already being completed, then it makes sense that Commander Rojal doesn't show up for us, since the contact disappears after you've completed it.

I filed a bug report in-game, if they actually read those things :) :
[System] [TicketCreated] Successfully submitted ticket ID #2,413,481

Disappointing is not even a word I would use to describe this event.... I was actually looking forward to this, I thought "oh cool, finally the doff system is getting some love for a change and I can get some more very rare doffs too"... WRONG! This event, just like all the other weekend events, is a joke. This event only highlights the lack of care that is given to the whole duty officer system as a whole, there seems to be more concern with selling doff packs and expansion slots then actually improving the system and adding more functionality to it. The particle mission was awful, 9/10 of the particles collapsed plus you have to fight with other people to get them, and then a 20 hour CD... rubbish... and the icing on this cake of lies has to be the lack of a Romulan battery doff. I like how obviously they tried to add it but apparently gave up last minute... classic

    And finally everyone understands.

Frankly however you look at it it's just another terrible testing job by Cryptic. There's no excuse for something this simple to be so badly bugged, it couldn't have taken two minutes to make sure it was working first surely...

Sorry for that then. I didn't realise there was supposed to be a specific Romulan version as well. The blog only stated Fed and KDF so considering all of my allied Rom toons could claim their allied faction rewards, I assumed that was working as intended.

I'm curious if you can only claim one or the other and if we've already picked up our allied doffs, that may be why the Romulan version is auto completing.

Did the event. I then talked to the guy but since I only had a choice of green I didn't accept but closed the chat with him. The items gone and no DOFF given. Total waste of time.

I've got enough fed scum doffs on my ship as is I don't want more. I'd even be willing to trade in the Exo for the Rom Doff.

    It's very odd.

Posts pointing out this issue appeared here minutes after the event went live, yet the silence is deafening.

There won't be a patch if they just pretend there isn't a problem

I'm surprised they even made a counterpart doff for Romulans considering we mostly never get anything (no Romulan version of Mirror Hakeev, no Romulan version of the CCE event doff, etc etc etc), but not surprised it was half assed and apparently based on the blog not even supposed to go live. If it's just a matter of Romulans getting two free doffs I'd glady trade as well.

    Its not, really.

Cryptic made a lot of new things, that are bugged and they didnt say anything about em. For example, the "recent" loadout system. It is broken and they didnt say a word about it. They said, the second day after they launched it that they were investigating, and thats all.

What i meant is, you are really naive if you think cryptic cares a bit about things that are broken. Not anymore.

So, unfortunately i will not expect a patch. Not to fix this, sadly.

Well, I'm afriad there is a certain, lets call it, expectation of bugs.

Partly because big complex MMO's kind of generate bugs naturally, partly because Cryptic has such a spotty approach to testing.

TBH, this is more a test of Smirk and Trendy.

They're our community managers, specialists even.

This is a genuine issue, probably the first proper one like this since the demise of Bran.

Not just a matter of competing tastes in the player base, but a good proper bug.

Can we expect community specialists to, I don't know, acknowledge the issue?

Or are we to simply sigh and realise that here comes the new boss, same as the old boss?

Hmm, seems like a waste of time for me, I already have the Reman/exocomp doffs from before and this scanning thing looks like more stress then fun and I don't really need CXP bonus as their isn't any worthwhile rewards for advancing commendations. Guess I won't bother this year.

If you want to show appreciation for DOFFs make the system more worthwhile, make it so leveling up commendation actually gives more rewards and perks then just a free doff, make new doff missions that can reward rep or fleet marks or holding provisions or any new rewards.

Yeah, I just tried as well. Still a no go. I am standing right by him and he is still just a "Personnel Officer."

Sigh. Looks like Romulans are getting the shaft.

    EDIT!

It just repatched again! Gonna give this one more go. If not working, sigh.

My internetz is slow, so still patching 2.4k mb here.

    Must be something noticeable, surely.

BTW, saw your website while I was waiting, very nicely done indeed.

Just checked after second patch. Nothing. A few of us tweeted Smirk to see if maybe he was updating there. He has that livestream so he may not have time to give us an update.

    FYI, his twitter is @PWECaptainSmirk

    EDIT!

Just closed game and again, it tried to patch. It looks like they are trying to push something out. Someone at Cryptic PLEASE give us an update? Anything!

This event, just like all the other weekend events, is a joke. (...)

    Spot on.

I normally don't complain about Cryptic, but after playing both of my Fed and KDF toons for this event, I have to say something.

    Examples:
    * Running around academy grounds, competing with other players to scan a limited amount of particles. That (like past events) is tremendously annoying. A few players run to the same particle, miss out, then rinse-and-repeat...
    * Compounding that pain, a near-constant failure rate when scanning particles. My KDF toon had a 70% failure rate during 30 minutes of play; 2 of my Fed toons had an average of 80-90% failure rate for 30 minutes each of play. (I'm being conservative with those numbers.)
    * The Rojal issue.

Cryptic/PWE: You need 1.) to address the Rojal issue publicly within this forum; and 2.) change the parameters of this event for better scanning success rates.

The goal should not be grinding for hours to accrue items. Like "First Contact Day", make it short and sweet: Finish an objective in a short period of time, allow the player to continue to explore/play the overall game.

That's my major beef with the grinding stuff. STO is a huge game with numerous places to travel to, missions to accomplish, etc. I'm not spending hours to grind for a blue (rare)/ purple (very rare) DOff. Many of us have multiple toons; many of us work full-time jobs, have family, friends and commitments which make our game playing time even more precious. (And btw, we're the ones more likely to spend $$ on C-Store. I do.)

I'm not expecting to be handed rewards. But the lousy failure rate with particle scanning makes for a PAINFUL event. And you're leaving a legacy of poor choices/gameplay that is going to haunt future events.

As an FYI, we players LOVE when we get interactions from tacofangs. We get a better sense that we're being heard. We're not going to get everything we ask for, but we get the impression some concerns are being listened to.

    Thank you.

I agree with most of this (although perhaps not to the same angry extent). I ESPECIALLY agree that I feel better when I get some Tacofangs in my day.

The one saving grace of this event is that the insanely painful grind is entirely optional.

I got my free doff on all toons, and did the grind like twice. That was it.

And I am happy with what I have. It would be nice if the Rojal issue were fixed (which I suspect is the reason for the stealth patch), but I strongly suspect that if it is, it will not be fixed until after I am gone for the weekend.

Anyway. Short version is: yeah, it's a painful grind, but it's actually better than particle scanning USED to be (oh my freaking GOD, painful memories there), and it is 100% optional. Which is nice.

No dice, but now when i relog is looks like its about to patch then stops.

I'd guess the patching is possibly pre-patching for season 9. Any patches which were going to affect current game state would require the servers to be restarted, so they'd tell us about that.

Have any of the Romulans had any luck collecting the Romulan version of the DOFF *BEFORE* collecting their allied version? I'm curious if you can only get one or the other (since they are both essentially the same DOFF just with a different skin) and they've just failed to link the missions correctly so you can still pick up the Romulan version but not complete it.

I specifically tested that, sending one Romulan toon to NR first, another to their faction world.

    No dice.

Also tried dropping and reacquiring the mission.

    No dice.

Also tried picking up the mission and checking back at my factions academy.

    No dice.

    Hey everyone,

Wanted to jump in to reply to the missing Romulan DOff contact. Rojal is indeed missing from New Romulus Command, and while we have been able to identify how this oversight was missed, unfortunately we will not be able to patch it back into place before the event ends.

This is totally an error on our end and we apologize for the missing contact.

While it is small consolation, and does not make up for the error, Romulan players are still able to get their allied special DOffs.

Speak to Lt Ferra and Captain Jarol at Starfleet Academy to receive your very rare Exocomp DOff.

Speak to Lt S'stas and Captain Laroj at the Klingon Academy to receive your very rare Reman DOff.

We have identified the missing Rojal as a bug that has prevented him from spawning, and we do apologize to everyone.

Sorry everyone! Don't forget to grab your allies DOffs and participate as much as you would like in the Particle Scanning Event for random quality DOffs, so you don't completely miss out!

This is going on my new "never forget" list to make sure the next time this event runs that everything is going according to plan.

"This is totally an error on our end and we apologize for the missing contact."

How about thinking about finding a way to get our romulans to their own doff instead of apologizing? 'More luck next year' is the worst possible solution. You don't test anything before bringing it live... fine. But at least finally start fixing your mess immediately instead of putting it on the endless list of outstanding bugs and giving a damn beyond that.
