I tend to get about 500,000 to 1 million a day, mostly because all the drops i get ether do not sell on the exchange or because they sell for almost nothing. I would like to try and get more, but have no idea how to do it other than fill inventory with stuff and sell it on the exchange.
Depends on what I'm doing... if I'm actively farming for purples on a marathon STO session, I can clear 10-20mil+ per day, but this tends to draw wife agro...
I have four toons, two fed, one romfed one klink.
I run the "lootomatic 3000" foundry mission on all fed aligned toons once per day and "lootomatic ganalda" on my klink. Allong with loot drops I can pull in around 3million ec per day, sometimes more. Beyond the lootomatic I do not make any special effort to get loot for ec, and often I do not use the exchange as I'm short of time, I'm sure you could add to this if you put all you loot on the exchange over time (not all of it will sell though I doubt). I think if I pooled all my time into grinding ec I could do more but I think that might just burn me out as I have so many other things to do.
On a side note if you do not have any account bank (I bought mine seperately) you can find a trusted freind or fleet officer to help you trade your ec between toons. I know its not for everyone but its something I do try and do for my ftp members when I have the time. I just take whatever ec they want traded, stay where I am (or move if need be) and give the ec to their other toon when they switch toons.
Having multiple toons and a way to consolidate your ec will really increase your daily ec take home.

Hahaha, do you find kerrat any good for getting purples?

You need some of those threat reducing Romulan boxes of chocolates......
Between 5 characters at lvl 50 doing the lootomatic missions about 2-2.5 mil a day if I am really working for it.
Otherwise it varies.

I make anywhere from 20m to 70m EC every day, that's net profit. Some days are better than others.
Don't get me wrong, though. According to my books I've lost around 600m EC over the past year on bad financial decisions. I'm still in the green, though.

I'm heavily involved in various markets on the Exchange. At any given point I have anywhere from 40-50 million EC tied up in merchandise. So a net profit of around 20-70 mil a day is about normal. I spend around 15-20 minutes a day on the Exchange as part of my daily routine in STO.

Once you have enough money, you can start to play Ferengi and mess with the exchange. Basically there comes a point you get so rich that money barely matters, because you have enough money to be able to make a hell of a lot more money with no real effort.
Buy low, sell high. Marking up prices and hedging bets on what you think someone will pay for a particular item.
Buy one thing for 500k EC, sell it for 1m. That's a 500k profit. That's the small fish, though. When you're talking a few dozen million ECs at stake, it gets a little more complicated.

But I really don't pay attention unless the pot starts showing a dent, and I replenish funds. After all, you need money to ruthlessly destroy threats to the security of the Federation.:P
Dilithium laundering, turning it into TRI-lithium and then selling it off to unsuspecting Deferi.
Best thing about it is when they catch on you can just tell them that you were bringing balance to the concept of lithium. So it's not even remotely criminal. Those poor Deferi.

The wife aggro is always the best kind of aggro to avoid.
That being said, if I get lucky, I could clear 20-30mil in 48 hours or just a couple of mil. If you have the right doffs, even console building gives you a decent return on investment.
The problem comes down to, would I rather have fun or grind EC? Lately, I just PvP apart from the rather obligatory 40 minutes (4 toons) of event grind because that one will net me about 40 mil EC in the end.

What items move for that much though and get underpriced by that much that often? I mean lockbox ships, traits, SupOp boffs, couple particular doffs, but its a pretty small pool. Do you just sit there, reloading the exchange over and over again, waiting for someone to make a mistake on pricing and picking it up in that split-second opening, or is there just enough stuff simply sitting there every single day?

Both. Like I said, I only spend 15-20 minutes a day, which does include reloading the exchange sometimes. I'm not really at liberty to share the intricate details, but I will say that both scenarios are part of my EC gain.
I wasn't being insulting. You really are one of my favorite customers.
I generally don't get into high-risk merchandise. I spread it out over multiple markets with only minor mark-ups. But those minor mark-ups add up when you're talking 40 things on the exchange, multiplied by several alts who act as mules for the exchange.
I play things safe and conservative. New Lockbox Day is also my favorite day of my fiscal quarter.

Every now and then people severely underprice stuff on the exchange because they don't know better. I've made 1-5 mil profit on bad Exchange pricing by people. Once I saw a severely under priced ship, but you have to be like lightning and scoop those up because they appear and disappear almost instantly.

Without trying, I'd say the 500k to 1mill is about right.
Probably a little more.
Doffs, selling purples on the exchange, general vendor trash.

HOW O.o!!!
^^^ 1 mil a day is really easy. I'm even lazier than that poster and really only clock about 400 to 500 thousand. Just don't really try at all.

Doesn't really answer 'how' though.

I suppose not. Answers more of the "why".
The "how" is a lot more simpler.

This is 2409. Now it's Quadlithium.
