You aren't the first one to ask, and I've actually considered starting an in-game investment firm. I've done it for friends -- taking 200k seed money from them and turning it into 20 million EC over a specified period of time.
I do keep an accounting book of what I buy, what I sell it for, and any losses incurred as a result of bad financial decisions (and like any market game I take losses just like anyone else). I certainly don't have the Midas Touch.
The major hurdles I've foreseen is trust, and potential fraud. I have no way of possibly proving I've done this and this with someone's money. I have my word, but that is it. For some people that is enough, but if for whatever reason someone thinks I'm being fraudulent with their investments, I have no oversight organization to police the situation.
I also can't promise I will make a certain amount of money with what they give me. If someone gives me 500k EC and I only make 1 million EC with it, there's nothing to stop them from saying, "Why did you not get more? I thought you were able to turn 500k EC into 5,000,000,000 EC?"
What separates this from the real world is oversight. I have noone policing my behavior on the exchange. There is noone they can turn to if I up and decide one day to take them for all they're worth.
And even though I'd have no plans to do so (I already have quite a bit of EC wealth), it sets a very dangerous precedent.
Another rule of getting rich in game... rich people don't stay rich by giving away money to people who ask, or making frivolous personal expenditures. I'm extremely thrifty with my money, and still buy commodities from those specific vendors. An EC saved is an EC earned.

My Daily in-come is really average, nice
1 million to 1,5 million that adds up with time
with a "Tier 5 Fleet" you don´t have much EC expenses.
Loot-o-matic + Tau Dewa Sector Patrol are really good money makers
(go to a Tau dewa system --> destroy battle ship --> get out --> get back in --> destroy next Battleship )

Did people really expect that, you double, Tripple or to quadruple theier money ???
WoW ... i would be more than happy if someone could double my EC, or even a +50%
too bad that "Privat Massages" don´t work because of the "Arc Website"
i thought more of a bigger investment, let say:
25.000.000 or 50.000.000 or 75.000.000 or 100.000.000
that would give a much more realistic possibility to invest in the good things

Consider that the people who have approached me in the past are generally fairly ignorant when it comes to money and finances. Which is why they ask me to make money for them.
The people who have wanted to be my clients are generally those who are impatient and/or lazy. They feel because they gave me money, that it entitles them to decide when that money magically reappears in larger integers. This has happened before with a former friend of mine (which is why we are no longer friends and which is why I no longer do this as a favor).
If this person leaves the game for whatever period of time, and I have no idea when they return (if ever), this is money I'm sitting on. If I get the impression they leave the game for good, then I'm just going to assume the money is mine. Of course, when they return they'll want their money back, paid in full, with accumulated interest. Money I no longer have to give since I was under the impression they ragequit STO.
If people are impatient enough to look to me to make money for them, then these people are generally those that feel like they own me. I've gotten PMs on a daily basis from the same person asking how their money is doing -- which gets very irritating very fast. Particularly because patience is the key to making them money.
I don't magically make 20m on a whim with a magic wand of finance. These are slight increases of profit over a very long period of time where days or weeks go by with temporary stagnation. Either merchandise doesn't sell, there's a lull in the economy, particularly if it's back-to-school season. I fully anticipate much of my merchandise simply sitting there until given reason to take it down and re-mark it.
Since I only do this for 15-20 minutes a day, I also don't feel obligated to do it if I don't feel like it. If someone is paying me to do it for them, then this actually feels like a job to do and I have other things I want to do in the game. I don't want STO to become a business simulator.
I make money as a personal challenge and to see if people are as predictable as I think they are. If I start getting paid to do this... then I'll be compelled to spend much more time at the exchange kiosk than I want to.
i like the way you think,

- hand over the EC
- "radio silience" for as long as it takes

Yeah, the original agreement was pretty cut and dry (in theory). Person gives me X amount of EC, I give them back whatever I managed to make off of it after a certain period of time.
Most people want money right away, and the way I game the exchange, that's simply not feasible unless I want to spend hours at a time refreshing the exchange over and over. And that's not appealing to me.

I kind of wish peeps would stop recommending key selling. Its tedious and everyone is on to it. In the end - you make more profit buying photon torps mk I to VI from vendors on DS9 and then reselling them on the exchange for lazy dupes needing them for fleet projects. I made 5 mil doing this but I wont lie - it was tedeous as well and havent done it in a while because it gets boring.
Erm, are you serious? lol. Tedious? it is the easiest thing ive ever did in STO. Just trade some dilithium every day for zen, with 4-5 alts, and i get about 300 zen to buy 2 keys, one to the exchange and another one for personal use. There is no headache in that, i just do that before i go to bed xD.
But i dont buy what you saying about DS9 and the exchange.. sorry. People must be really dumb to buy that for that price.
I have four toons, two fed, one romfed one klink.
I run the "lootomatic 3000" foundry mission on all fed aligned toons once per day and "lootomatic ganalda" on my klink. Allong with loot drops I can pull in around 3million ec per day, sometimes more. Beyond the lootomatic I do not make any special effort to get loot for ec, and often I do not use the exchange as I'm short of time, I'm sure you could add to this if you put all you loot on the exchange over time (not all of it will sell though I doubt). I think if I pooled all my time into grinding ec I could do more but I think that might just burn me out as I have so many other things to do.
On a side note if you do not have any account bank (I bought mine seperately) you can find a trusted freind or fleet officer to help you trade your ec between toons. I know its not for everyone but its something I do try and do for my ftp members when I have the time. I just take whatever ec they want traded, stay where I am (or move if need be) and give the ec to their other toon when they switch toons.
Having multiple toons and a way to consolidate your ec will really increase your daily ec take home.
Off topic, I thought I'd try these lootomatic missions out, Fed one was a complete breeze, none of the npc's did really anything at all except maybe launch a few fighters here or there.
Then I did the KDF one, Get Borg Cubes with Shield Neutralizer, Apex's using Jam Sensors, Typhoon's using the powerful spread which nearly takes down a shield facing, Advanced Escorts with separation where you need to kill all 3, and the kar'fi which launches fighters and those souls that swarm you.
Seems like the author chose much easier ships for the Fed one than the KDF one...
Not to say the KDF one was hard just seems like chose much more annoying ships where you needed to deal with where the Fed one could just sit there and spam with no care in the world.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
But i dont buy what you saying about DS9 and the exchange.. sorry. People must be really dumb to buy that for that price.
Well, it's the same reason that if I'm running a new alt through the Doff colony chains and I've forgot to bring any Stem Bolts, I'm going to replicate them up on the spot even though it's twice as expensive as flying to a commodity vendor and buying them. Time is money, money is time. I'm willing to pay a premium to get it done right that moment.
However, there is a strong downward pressure on prices on the Exchange where the underlying is easy to come by. Normally you only get spikes to interesting levels when someone is buying to fill a fleet project and does not care what they're paying.
A customer who doesn't care what they're paying is a good customer.

I will admit I did one lootomatic foundry mission. It killed a little piece of my soul.
don´t forget at the "Loot-o-Matic 3000" the enemies have their back pionted at you
PLUS the fact the enemys are very slow turning
PLUS they can not use most of their Science Abilities
ALL that resulting in a very very fast loot mission
( Try a Breen Plesh Blek Raider here :-D )
PFFT. Loot-o-matics are honestly not as good as everyone says they are. You'll make more money creating a Klingon character, doing maurading missions for Contraband (youll also get lots of the more expensive commodities to sell to vendors and Doffs), transferring it to another character who needs it, and then selling it on the exchange. You can make up to several hundred thousand with no effort at all doing that.

Very simple solution to that kind of problem buy a Stack of needed Commodities and put them into your Bank, they will be available for the Duty Officer Missions
Hard to tell what I make per day but its enough to let me buy whatever lockbox and lobi ships I want whenever and have purple doffs and purple everything acrosss 10 characters. Currently sitting on half billion in EC, if I liquidate assets and selll everything I have on exchange now , turn dil to zen, turn zen to EC, way over 1 bil. All I do is doff a lot on many characters mostly marauding, sell the contraband. That and farming the foundry and Kerrat gave me my main chunk of ec to work with that I used to buy expensive items and resell for a slight markup. I do this very safely, I only try to make a slight profit each time, but when talking about lockbox and lobi ships that slight markup is still in the millions, and I do this a few times a week and resell any other stuff I think I can markup without hardly risking money. My main rule is generally its stuff I can quickly dump and get all or most of my money back if I don't make a profit. Also I end up with way more dil then I need so usually sell a lot of that every month, enough to get several stacks of keys to sell, pretty easy to get EC this way now with farming the battlezone.
Yes I do agree that the kdf lootomatic is somewhat more challenging than fedside I was a little shocked when I saw a borg cube towering over my tiny b'rel retrofit lol! But its still easy ec compared to many other space pewpew pastimes. And all the kills still count towards your accolades as well as earning you xp.
I've also found the lootomatic missions to be an excellent basic dps testing map as it is (fedside at least, not run it enough kdf side yet to tell,it seems to be) is totally consistant, same ships everytime.
There (as another poster mentioned) is allot to be said for using the exchange to make ec, or by selling contraband (if your not using it to get dilithium).
I myself simply find the lootomatics a convenient way of getting some easy ec, either as TRIBBLE for vendors, or as blue or occasionally purple gear for my fleet bank or upcoming toons.
If time and grind are a factor and your still building you doff roster this can help allot. I can clear lootomatic 3000 fedside in a very short time in my scimi, never bothered to time it but its less time than even the quickest pve.
One final tip you may probably know, do not recycle your loot (maybe batteries etc) you'll get way more from lessa on esd fedside anyway.

Iconians,
I have a nice spreadsheet I use to track all my investments and net worth for my in game assets. You're welcome to the template if you like. Its nice being able to see what you have invested and what you paid verse what its worth now and what you project it to be. Helps when making future investments. I use similar tools when tracking my RL investments.
I was thinking of creating a channel for STO Billionaires. Maybe a handful of us can work together to dominate certain sub-markets on the exchange.

That sounds like a tempting offer. It would be interesting to see what the 1% can do to the STO economy from a purely experimental standpoint.
That said, I'm not sure if the rest of the 99% would be on board with various sub-markets being "our" plaything. I may be benign with my market practices, but I'm not ignorant to the fact others would not be.
