In the age of social media I don't think twitter could be considered weird. We're past the day of people only getting their info from one place.

    lol :D Really?
How stupid of me to assume the designated STO venues are the place to get information on STO.

In this day and age it is pretty stupid. Especially when they've been using all those other venues for over 4 years now. Time to catch up with the 21st century grandpa. :)

Already in effect Orange, That actually happens with any special ability involving 'seperation' if you have the AMS console equipped then your 'pet sections' have it.

I'm 23. If you're younger you act like an old man. :)

And in case you didn't know it, the rolleye emote is very condescending, and you keep using it.

Dev Tracker reveals utter silence on the issue, unless there was something in the Livestream that I didn't catch.

The strongest evidence is the absence of any notes in the blog that would affect the -R besides the improvements to Saucer Sep and the addition of the 2-piece set bonus. Strictly speaking, it doesn't necessarily mean that there aren't any improvements to the ship that are in the works, but at the same time I wouldn't hold my breath.
I hate it when things like that are part of a Twitter conversation, since for whatever reason I don't always get those tweets in my feed...

Just as a follow up, sorry forgot that in the other thread someone also mentioned twitter but didn't include a link there either. Anyway that thread was killed off due to excessive flaming...

It's still beyond me why they call it a "reboot" when they're only rebooting half the ships involved that that tier.:( Mybe they actually meant they're giving the Galaxy-R the boot again.

Well maybe he just acts like someone who values his time and prefers to get his information from one coherent source instead of collecting bits 'n pieces here and there. I know I do. And I know others who think alike.
If you don't value your time in a similar fashion, then that's ok and it's your decision. I know a lot of people like to be up to date and read background stuff and development news.
But there are also a lot of players who don't like to spend their time with anything else than actually playing the game.

So I think it's wrong to act as if there's a standard people have to meet.

As I said, that's never existed in this game. Since champions online was announced in 2008 cryptic has taken advantage of social media and outside sources to get its message across to the players. They've never focused their attention solely on the forum.

The days where gaming forums are the only place to get game information are long gone; and they never existed for co, sto, or nwns at cryptic. You might as well be complaining about wanting analog phones back. :)

Technically, "reboot" applies just as much to turning your computer off and turning it on again is it does to a total overhaul of an existing property...

I know how to use it. I can just use other ships in similar ways and have more fun in them.

This is a very valid point. Use any other cruiser and jump back into a Galaxy and you'll find the Galaxy is a hell of a lot less fun to fly.

She takes longer to get anywhere or turn. longer to kill anything, Has limited offensive boff powers and not just Tact but Engineering and Sci abilities.

All in all compared to all other cruisers she's a lemon.

It wouldn't have been so bad if she had been the engineering mirror of the Nebula with her boff seating

    Lt Uni
    Lt Tact
    Ens Eng
    Cmd Eng
    LtC Sci

    With the Galaxy-X getting
    Lt Uni
    LtC Tact
    Cmd Engineering
    LtC Sci

Alas we have been dealt a lemon, one ship has to be the worst and the Galaxy has been given this role mainly due to
    1. Power Creep
    2. Game breaking away from the MMO Trinity model
    3. A Galaxy on par with the Excelsior, Sovereign, Avenger. Ambassador being the iconic ship she is would hurt sales of these ships and future ship fed sales.

This reboot is nothing of the sorts and is a continued insult to the ship that brought Star Trek to a new generation.

I get why the C-store versions have no changes, but there's no reason why they cannot redo the Fleet versions. Although there is no C-Store Vor'cha, the Fleet version named the Tor-Kaht is a different setup to the tier 5 Vor'cha. It maybe classed a diff ship but can use the Vor'cha skin. So we have a Fleet Venture that can use the Galaxy skin if the C-store Galaxy is owned

As i see it this upgrade makes the most underpowered dreadnought keep its place as the most underpowered dreadnought in the game with the least powerful character class/human

    so to wrap up

    Weaakest character class

    Weakest ship in its clsss

    that about wraps ot up
    Jellico....Engineer ground.....Da'val Romulan space Sci
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
    Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng

JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse

Star Trek uses it in both terms:

Star Trek ONLINE, the game that these forums are for, uses it to denote either Shon's Odyssey class ship The Enterprise, or the "Flagship bundles" you can purchase.

This game really isn't comparable to Star Trek television shows.

Just look at the uniforms your characters wear and compare them to whatever you see on ESD on any given day. Or you know, fly a breen ship as a starfleet captain.

The set bonus and separation/reintegration changes are console related and I'm a little confused about the last one; saucer has been doing AS for some time now, what do you think they changed?
Technically, "reboot" applies just as much to turning your computer off and turning it on again is it does to a total overhaul of an existing property...

The question is, would they have done more by simply turning the server off than what they are clearly going with here?

Eh, you're 2 years younger than me. Still doesn't qualify as a grandpa. I left 1 mil. quatloos at Quark's on DS9. Go there and talk to Morn. :D

Anyway, my point was that I have no beef with the devs. using social media to communicate as long as the same info can be found on their primary site regarding their product. That is not the case here. People here had and many of them still have no idea if there are any significant improvements to the Galaxy-R. People still are not sure and asking wheather the bridge in the pack is the existing one or a new one. Why? Because noone communicated that to them, either here or on the official site and they happen to not follow devs on Twitter.
The devs are free to use social media, but the same important info they post on twitter, facebook, Google + or whatever should be availibe here, where most of their players will look first for info on STO.

Or to put it in a very plain way - if I want to check the prices of T-Com services, I visit the official T-Com webpage, I don't follow their CEO on Twitter or add their PR as a friend on FB.
That's why those things are called official web pages. What's going on here is in many regards stupid, regardless if it's happening since CO or whatever, it still is stupid and unprofessional.

To be fair, that's Smirk dropping the ball there. He's the community guy now, who is involved in making these announcements and blogs known to the players. That includes Tweets and FB posts, yes. But also news updates on the forums. Just a copypasta job works. So he needs to be on top of all the developments, not just the big announcements.

He's still kind of new to the job, so, I don't know, I'm still willing to cut him some slack for now.

Captain Smirk is the last person to be held responsible about what we're discussing here. He's new here in STO and he still runs 2 game forums.
I'll cut him all the slack he needs, because he's not responsible for this in the first place. This what we're talking about has been going on long before he became Community Manager of STO.

As well I have a solution to this as well. For everyone that bought the Galaxy X back then over 3 years ago for that extremely high price. Either give us a credit for the difference in the cost from the old price to the new one or just give us the bundle for free. :D

People who have all three ships could be comped the "bridge" being referred to in the post, it is not as if Cryptic did not get more zen than the bundle costs (even during ship sales) from those players.

Hooray! Cryptic finally, FINALLY listened to us and gave us a revamped Galaxy-class!

However, they forgot one thing (and no, it's not the Gal-R getting no revamp, that's in a different thread).

    The ship model(s).

Seriously. The one aspect of the ship that "to this day, remain some of the most popular ships [in] STO – undoubtedly due to their iconic stature", and by the looks of the screenshots, they didn't bother to fix.

The most noticeable issues with the Galaxy class appearance lie with the secondary hull. The saucer does not attach properly, and the shape of the secondary hull itself is searingly wrong. These models are terrible.
The Gal-X is even worse, with an off-centered lance, even more noticeable off-centering, and skewed box-thing.

I addressed these issues (and issues with other iconic and just-as-old vessels) in a thread here, which failed to gain Cryptic's attention at the time. But now that they have looked in the Galaxy's direction, here is the golden opportunity to get these ships fixed.

    STO's Promotional Images
    Galaxy Class 1
    Galaxy Class 2
Galaxy-X Note that, even though the camera is not pointed at the noted errors, they still exist. The ship model is most probably unchanged.

If by "listened" you mean "are preying on the hopes and dreams of" you would not be far off base. Either way your post belongs in the Federation Shipyards in the Reboot thread where the rest of us were thrown.

Oh and while your idea about fixing the model, which I posted a comment or two about myself recently, would be nice to see happen - it will "...not generate revenue..." and is therefore "...not value-added."

    Fun, eh?

And the greeble on top of the saucer is supposed to be a torpedo launcher block and the phaser lance is about half the volume and nowhere near as detailed as is reasonably should be.

As I wrote above - these are "...not valued added..." issues.

Since they are going to be trying to sell these things as a new bundle I should think that is a value added consideration, but given that I can still see those long standing problems in their promo screenshots I not overly hopeful at this point that these very old graphics bugs are ever going to be fixed.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.

If it's the same Galaxy Bridge pack I bought way back when, it's not that super. It's kinda 'low-rez' compared to some of the newer ones.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

The c-store galaxy bridge pack, like most c-store bridge packs is horribly un-polished. Who ever did the texture work did an awfull job. I'm guessing they wernt given enough time on it.

So if we do the math the old monthly stipend was 350 points in the old currency and now its 500 in the new. That means there is a conversion of 7 old points to every 10 new points so the cost of the Galaxy X back then was an equivalent of 7100 points in with the current system this bring the total cost for all the ships up to 10600 points total spent. At their current prices buying them all separate they only cost 6500.

    For the record / reminder:

Cryptic points were 80 points on the US Dollar. Therefore, 2,000 CP (what I vaguely recall paying for the Gal-X back in the days of yore) = $25, which is the "current" value of 2500 zen.

And if you were one of the aforementioned people who paid 5 subscriptions for one month to get the ship before it even hit the C-store? Ouch, but you could have complained immediately after the ship hit the C-store and had a better chance then...

On that note, let me preface this in that I, too, own a Gal-X. For me to "complete" the set:

    $15 T4 Variant.
    $20 T5 Retrofit.
    $ 5.50 Bridge Pack
    $40.50 individual purchases.

So I pay 50 cents more and "still" get a "free" Gal-X compared to buying them all at full price "today"... ;) And honestly, I already paid the $5.50 for the bridges (only ones that have 13 BOffs sitting around on them), so I'm needing $35 to get the full kit and kaboodle that they're offering today. Not bad for having access to half the bundle for well nigh 2 years... :)
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

To rob a line: [quote: Mariemaia Kushrenada] Forum Posting is much like an endless waltz. The three beats of war, peace and revolution continue on forever. However, opinions will change upon the reading of my post.[/quote]
