+1 to this. I have played several other MMO games. This is the ONLY one that constantly gives away free premium items. Also it is the only MMO i have played where the players can EARN premium currency either from the Dil exchange or from peanut labs.
The problem is like this game, Whinging is also free and people like to winge by nature. If i was to post what i really thought of these ungrateful Bar Stewards, im sure it would be deleted.
for myself im grateful for the freebies i get off STO.
Regards to the current Whine about having to 'grind' for the upcoming ships, i wonder how many of these whiners 'Grind' for reputation. My guess: 99% of them

Couldn't agree more, I am actually very happy that I had none of these items, plus i got a free reclaimable Sabre Class! I will be taking that into STFs for sure even if it is a lower level ship.
Unfortunately I already have the ships....so I don't get an unlock.
But the good thing is other players can get access to both of these.
The consoles are very effective and useful.
The only drawback still will always be at least for now....is that once you get to a higher rank....these ships will no longer be used.
Their skins are really interesting and very diverse....but since there is no way to upgrade the configuration or get higher hull or shield strength....they end up being a throw away.
If anyone from cryptic reads this, PLEASE!! change the system so players can at least update their old ships or at least be able to use the skins.
I really think this would be an excellent feature that would prolong game play and make this game a lot more fun.
I hope other players also chime in on this....and maybe say the same things.
There are just way too many ship hulls that are super neat...but since the ships themselves cant survive in the higher level areas very well....I had to stop using them.
Even though....realistically....if this where closer to real life....we captains would take our favorite ships and improve them. Riker did this in The next generation show and movies showed this with the enterprise refits kirk used.
Power without Perception is Spiritually useless and therefore of no true value.
The only advantaje of older ships in front of newer ones, should be for example the turn rate and in-combat flight speed, for example. But since the game is designed in a way that even a scimitar can have the turn rate of a escort or the flight speed of a raider, the older ships are just useless once u pass their level. It should be a limit for T5 ships about the flight speed and turn rate they can gain through procs / doffs / items / consoles. We could think so many ways to make older ships useul, but its cryptic decision to make em, and i dont think they will, since they will need to change so many things.. and honestly, i dont want cryptic to TRIBBLE the game even more..

OK. So i also have played lots of mmo games. And i agree with the first part of your sentence. But honeslty, i could say as well that this is the only mmo game that counts thousands of non fixed bugs since ages ago and its almost focused on gaining money from the customers. Not even Age of Conan in the release had so many bugs (and age of c is claimed as the most bugged game ever in the beginnings, so...) So its completely logical that cryptic feels the need to give something free, more than in a usual way. U didnt think on that?
We can say the good things about STO, but what about the bad things.. everything has its balance.
My Fed captain appreciates his Gladius. My Klingon captain didn't quite reach the right level to claim the SoQub, but oh well. I look forward to seeing today's item.
