Shon is a BAD captain that managed to loose a Defiant class ship, its only proper and fair he was demoted to a freighter. Unfortunately freighters are actually useful, so off to an Ody he was sent.
Honestly, if people want more story in the game... and most do, how about its involving OUR captains instead of a poorly thought out NPC.
Kirk lost the Enterprise. Picard lost the Enterprise. Sisko lost the Defiant. Were they bad captains also?
While I do not mind the Star Trek magazine getting exclusive stories, I do think such Star Trek lore should trickle down to be exposed to the STO playerbase in time. Esepcially in a "want more? Come see us over here" fashion.
I do agree that Shon's Ent-F crew is storywise underpresented, but I think this stance needs more perspective:
-First, Shon is a character presented in the first episode of the 2800 storyline, and receives the Enterprise-F at the end of that arc. That's level 40ish. Meaning that any character under that level should preferably not be exposed broadly to the Enterprise-F. This limits how much broad exposure Cryptic can give it.
-Second, Cryptic have released one featured episode since the Enterprise-F and the Bortas'qu were introduced. Both flagships, captains and crew were featured in it. Though the frequency of new episode advancing the storyline is trickling in molasse-slow, Cryptic did seem to stick to the idea of presenting the new flagship on any new endgame-advancing story feature.
So, the Enterprise-F shows up storywise pretty much as often as Cryptic can so far.
Finally, my disagreements with the Odyssey-class stem more from a growing weakness of Cryptic's part, which is the reduction in customization of the ships they bring forth. I believe the Odyssey needs sister variants for us to swap parts around. Likely inspirations would likely be the 2nd and 3rd place winners of the "Design the New Enterprise" contest.
I mean... seriously. Vektor's runner-up entry gets put in-game as the Chimera-class, but the 2nd/3rd place DTNE contest get entirely overlooked? o.O
Yes. Picard was a frenchman so obviously there is a problem there. Sisko was a (insert PC word here) and Kirk was probably something too.
The only ones that DIDNT lose their ship was Janeway and Archer. Both heavily disliked by a few trek fans.
TRIBBLE Worf nealry lost the Defiant too. Sisko actually lost 2 ships if you count his miranda class.
Actually Janeway technically lost the Voyager but later got it back. In an undestroyed form.
And no im not being a racist or nationalist, or sexist. just pointing out the obvious.
In Sisko's defense, he wasn't in command of the Saratoga. And Picard wasn't on the Enterprise when the Duras sisters used their cheat code to take it out.
And "nationalism" isn't a dirty word or political philosophy, except in that con job pulled on Europeans called the EU and that joke called the UN.

while i am open about Shon on an Enterprise as its captain, however i never did care for the ENT-F as that was an American only contest, something i never gotten over and still will never get over. so as far as i am concerned, i couldn't care if the ship model was corrupted one day and couldn't be restored by PWE devs. nor do i care to know about the second or third placed entries.
if PWE decide to travel down that route about designing a ship class, its either all the world or it stays in house.

If the President of the Federation does not have to be human then what makes you think the captain of the flagship has to be?
Would you be upset with Worf as captain? What about Data? How about Troi? What sets Starfleet apart from many of the other races is it's diversity. None of the shows had a none human captain of the Enterprise but it's not shocking at all to think that there were captains of other ships that were. They had none human admirals as well, one would assume at some point they were captains.

Dont feel bad, technically it was NO ONE'S contest. It ended up in house anyways. Ihle's original design was junk IMO and I never would have paid for his original ship. Then Cryptic artists made Adam's design even uglier and out of shape looking. If I were Adam, Id have been LIVID that Cryptic changed the original "winning" design so much.

The President of the Federation is the biggest joke in Star Trek IMO. I havnt read a lot of books, but Ive seen the President once in Undiscovered country. Aside from that, he's as useless as Britain's Royals. When CBS makes an entire Star Trek show that centers around a Federation President, then you have a point. We are talking CAPTAINS of ships that had their own TV shows here.
And people bringing up Spock who was "Captain" of the Enterprise OFF AIR does not count.

Sorry Shon paid the iron price for command of the Enterprise. I have no problems of him being in command of that ship.
Anybody who does, who else paid the iron price for command of the Enterprise? I can think of 2. Captain Garret at the end of the Enterprise C and Jean Luc Picard.

How is it not racist? It doesn't matter if it's reality or fiction. Racism, at its core, is the belief that one group is superior to another. The fact that he said Andorian rather then Black or Asian doesn't make his comments any less racist.
In the Trek universe there are many species. Saying non-human species shouldn't be captains is racist within the IP.

Im in agreement with the decisions of the Star Trek tv producers. Long term, it wont sell. As I said before, primarily is that the odds are too high the writers will turn off viewers by writing a lead alien captain to try too hard to be different from a human. Making him more unrelatable as the show went on. It works for the sidekick role, not the lead.
Cryptic went that route, and if anything COULD succeed, it would be a video game with an alien captain lead Star Trek character, but they've totally killed the character from the start. Im not against the concept in principle. But I cant stand Shon. Cryptic doesnt have the writing chops to pull this off, and therefore should have never even went there. Trying and failing so miserably at an alien Enterprise captain just supports the hate from guys like me. It feels soooo affirmative action to me. If they hadnt turned me off the character from the moment I met him at that DS9 conference, Id have given him a chance. My character really wanted to stand up and say "If we werent surrounded by Starfleet brass and security, I would KILL YOU WHERE YOU STAND YOU COWARD!" Its more about Cryptic writing story content that their game is STARVING for, then selling it off to another outlet, and not even thinking to bring it back to their OWN players after those outlets have had their use of it.
Its possible I could change my stance about Shon in time, the way I changed my stance on Janeway after I actually watched the entire Voyager series. When Voyager originally ran, I never watched it. Mostly for dislike of Janeway in the first few episodes I saw. They were in that mess because of Janeway's decision. That wasnt the best first impression to make on me. Yeah, its what was required to even HAVE the Voyager series, but it instantly made me disrespect her. When the series ended, I liked her. Shes still 3rd best Captain of a series. I still havnt watched DS9 yet (to give Sisko a full evaluation) save a few episodes here and there at the beginning. I'll start Netflixing DS9 this year probably, the way I binge watched Voyager on Netflix in 2011.
I'll never get the chance to change my mind about Shon if the meat of his character is written exclusively for a magazine I have no desire to subscribe to. I WANT to like a Captain of the Enterprise, but Cryptic refuses to give me that chance after they gave the character a very bad first impression in my mind, then hide his character and adventures behind the ST mag.

What a load of nonsense. Star Trek aliens are humans with a bit of makeup. A clich? Ferengi is just your average Wall Street-banker with a b***head, sharp teeth and honesty. If DC comics can sell stories about aliens (Superman, Martian Manhunter, Mr. Miracle, Supergirl etc.) why should it be impossible for Star Trek?
FKA K-Tar, grumpy Klingon/El-Aurian hybrid. Now assimilated by PWE.
Sometimes, if you want to bury the hatchet with a Klingon, it has to be in his skull. - Captain K'Tar of the USS Danu about J'mpok.
I actually HATE Shon. Ive always felt he was a token Andorian, picked by Kestral and Cryptic to be something different and edgy. I still believe there is NO WAY a tv series would have made an alien the Captain, much less THE captain of an Enterprise. Cryptic chosing to go that route just hurt the credibility of the writing staff for this game's Star Trek universe.
Then to make it worse, Cryptic shoves a poorly designed (its fan approval rating is no where near as high as the TOS ship, A, B, D, and E designs) Enterprise F down our throats, gives the big chair to an Andorian, then sells off the ONLY story content of Shon and his crew to the Star Trek magazine. I understand the business and marketing reasons for that. What I dont understand is why a Cryptic created captain and crew cant be read about in game, much less the STO forums??
First off, what would be so wrong about an Andorian being given command of an Enterprise? Gene Roddenberry was known for "pushing the envelope" by having females serve on ships, the first interracial kiss on TV and even having kids on board starships. I'd think he would have found it logical to have a non-human become Captain of one of the Enterprise line. At least one from one of the Founders of the Federation.
As for game content, we've already had encounters with Shon going from a Captain trying to scrounge parts for an aging vessel to assuming command of one of Starfleet's newest ships and helping to discover the portal network.
And it may surprise some, but there's still a good number of Trek fans who still don't know that STO even exists. Helping put a little content outside of the game to help promote the MMO is a good idea.
So, if I understand the OP: you hate Shon, you hate the Odyssey-class Enterprise, AND you think they should have a bigger role in the game? Mixed messages much?
So, if I understand the OP: you hate Shon, you hate the Odyssey-class Enterprise, AND you think they should have a bigger role in the game? Mixed messages much?
He's mostly POed that Cryptic and CBS have a license with ST magazine to provide content about the game, and that he has to pay for the magazine if he wants to read it.
It doesn't occur to him that it's beneficial to both STO and the magazine: STO attracts Trek fans who don't play the game and the magazine gets potential gamers to read their product. It's a business win/win.
wow such stupidity - the OP is racist because he wants a human instead of a fictional blue alien? LOLOL whatever i guess im a human supremacist as well, i want the human species to succeed and dominate all other forms of life we encounter. it's science, it's darwinism.
i tell you what, im pissed off too that the enterprise is not olnly captained by alien filth, but a also a "male" (forget which of the four sexes he is supposed to be, disgusting aliens)
i would much rather have a FEMALE HUMAN CAPTAIN, preferably non-caucasian. now that would be diverse. imagine a heavy set older black woman as captain of the enterpise. that is diveristy. but nope they choose to have a han soloish masculine male as captain, then make him blue and everyone bows over worshiping the "diversity" of star trek having a fictional fantasy blue han solo.
i want the a dolphin to be next u.s. president, imagine the diversity of having a dolphin as president of america. -but guess what? no, i lied actually i want a human to be president because america is for humans and instead i want to go to japan and eat dolphin steak.

And it may surprise some, but there's still a good number of Trek fans who still don't know that STO even exists. Helping put a little content outside of the game to help promote the MMO is a good idea.
It doesn't occur to him that it's beneficial to both STO and the magazine: STO attracts Trek fans who don't play the game and the magazine gets potential gamers to read their product. It's a business win/win.
i tell you what, im pissed off too that the enterprise is not olnly captained by alien filth, but a also a "male" (forget which of the four sexes he is supposed to be, disgusting aliens)
i would much rather have a FEMALE HUMAN CAPTAIN, preferably non-caucasian. now that would be diverse. imagine a heavy set older black woman as captain of the enterpise. that is diveristy. but nope they choose to have a han soloish masculine male as captain, then make him blue and everyone bows over worshiping the "diversity" of star trek having a fictional fantasy blue han solo.
i want the a dolphin to be next u.s. president, imagine the diversity of having a dolphin as president of america. -but guess what? no, i lied actually i want a human to be president because america is for humans and instead i want to go to japan and eat dolphin steak.
