I am a 100% PRO-HUMAN RACIST, and proud of it! I will always prefer humans over fictional aliens! Wooohooo!
I wish folks would understand that the whole utopian nature of the federation was left purposefully vague in TOS, because its details were not as important as the hopeful message it entailed. Next people will tell me Voyager and enterprise were real trek shows! Preposterous! That's like saying Galaxy Quest isn't tied (or just behind) Wrath of Khan for best trek film!
...racist drivel and loathsome expressions of desire for dolphin steak...
Wow. You repel me. I can barely keep my lunch down. That was an appalling, illogical, and just plain nasty post of senseless racist drivel.
I wrote up a big post in response to your spew, but then I realized that some of the nastier digs may violate TOS, and that it would likely fly far over your head anyway.
Don't think anybody insulted me. Post # 91 said some really appalling things that are soooooooooooooo close to white supremacist rhetoric...while claiming to not be a racist.
Then xe said that xe wanted to kill and eat a dolphin.
That was when I nearly lost my lunch.
I'm going to go look at George Takei's wedding pictures on his website now. Everybody loves a good wedding album. And I need some cheering up.

i would much rather have a FEMALE HUMAN CAPTAIN, preferably non-caucasian. now that would be diverse. imagine a heavy set older black woman as captain of the enterpise. that is diveristy.
Dont look now, but Cryptic has assigned those types of women to Klingon roles....
STO: @AGNT009 Since Dec 2010

He's mostly POed that Cryptic and CBS have a license with ST magazine to provide content about the game, and that he has to pay for the magazine if he wants to read it.
It doesn't occur to him that it's beneficial to both STO and the magazine: STO attracts Trek fans who don't play the game and the magazine gets potential gamers to read their product. It's a business win/win.
Id be PO'd if the new Captain was the hot Hispanic woman I wanted. Im less PO'd its Shon. Im mainly PO'd that Cryptic has their writer actually writing STORY CONTENT for STO (thats probably more descriptive in its nature than anything we get in STO), sells it off for marketing, but fails to realize we STO players who DONT subscribe to the ST mag may eventually want the magazine's story table scraps a month or two later so that the players who are primarily playing STO for STORY actually get some story to enjoy for this particular timeline. Since Cryptic caters to everything else but story in STO and we STO players here for story are so skinny you can see our bones, because we are hardly fed.
I understand the marketing benefits of doing that for both the mag and STO, but what was wrong with getting that content brought back to the actual GAMERS who may be interested in reading it once the mag had gotten all they could from it after a few months?

If you really understood the marketing then you would understand that CBS wants you to buy the magazines too. CBS is a huge entity with many licenses. They want to expand their entire universe through these licenses. They want you to play STO, and read the magazines, and buy the models, and books, and toys, and t-shirts, and everything else they have out there. That's how CBS make money: from royalties and licenses, because they don't produce Trek tv shows any more.
By giving Cryptic and the magazine permission to do these stories CBS is increasing their brand and increasing their revenues. This isn't about Cryptic cheating you out of content. This is about CBS giving Kestrel permission to write material for the magazine to expand their product. If CBS didn't give legal permission for the material it would never be in the magazine.

READ THE WORDS THAT ARE COMING OUT OF MY MOUTH!!!
Im not complaining that the story content is in the magazine first. Im complaining because the magazine only gets use out of a particular story for 2-3 months (since people subscribing to back issues has to be rare) and that the story that belongs with STO doesnt eventually get to come back to the STO website for the players that are putting WAAAAAAAAAAAAY more money into CBS' pockets than the official magazine is.
If CBS REALLY wanted me to buy their ST mag, then they would give us an actual TV series for the magazine to focus on, instead of a movie once every three years and always just talking about the PAST in the mag.

Hey, dude, I'm not with you in person so your mouth means nothing here; and even then I'd be hearing the words from your mouth not reading them.

Again, the fact that you have to buy a back issue to get that old information does put money in both the magazine and CBS's pockets. This is about income for 3 companies, not about what you want. Go ask Time magazine to give away it's articles and interviews for free every 3 months and see what answer you get.
And please, dude, you have no idea how much Cryptic or the magazine pay CBS. The magazine could be making CBS a lot more money each year.

So, you don't like STO because it's never canon enough and everything, including the stories suck. You don't like the Star Trek magazine, because apparently no one wants to talk about old stuff; even though that's what we do all the time on the forum. I'm beginning to wonder what type of Trek fan you are.
@daan2006: That is sort of exactly the problem. I used to get Star Trek magazine every month, but the last few years, there simply hasn't been anything worth reading about in it. I'm not one of those Star Trek fans that actually cares about the actors. Sure, I prefer to hear they had a nice time recording the shows over lamentations of their misspent youth and ruined careers, but I'm not interested in their latest, non-sci-fi projects, or the so-manied repeat of the nostalgia hour. There's no new shows, no games to speak of, I was never eligable for any of the contests, and last but not least... everything that is in the magazine, usually was on the internet before the previous issue hit the stands.
My point there is, I might have read the Enterprise F stories on account of being STO related, but there's is absolutely nothing else of interest left for me in that magazine. And I'm not buying it just for that.
So I have to kind of share the OPs exasperation at Cryptic effectly burying STO lore under the STM headstone. (Feeling kind of like Arthur Dent here.)

The shows would never have had an alien captaining the Enterprise.
Thank goodness Cryptic had the wherewithal to do something interesting. As much as I like Andorians, it's just a shame we got another rubber-forehead alien instead of a Horta or a Tholian or something. I am so fed up with science fiction being focused on humans and never branching out... It's a bit silly, I guess, but why go to all the trouble of creating an interesting setting and then waste it focusing almost entirely on humans, and when you do have aliens, they're almost exactly like humans?

hmmmmm Tholian captain you say....hmmmmmmm i LOVE IT
The game is about me not the Enterprise F, I could careless what they are doing, if they want to show up once and a while and help me out fine, but the story is about me and not the Enterprise.

So getting an official response is too much to ask for? How hard is that guys? Brandon, hello? Not saying anything at all just proves Im right about this issue, and Cryptic goofed. They probably completely sold the stories away with no option to bring them back home to this website ever.

They actually gave an official response to this MONTHS (if not over a year) ago in one of the podcasts (I can't remember which) around the time the first story, An Unexpected Honor, came out. Its because they don't want Shon and the Enterprise stealing your character's spotlight. And that makes sense. We play the game to play our captain not to all be the sidekick to the Enterprise Captain.
And yes they do have an exclusivity agreement with ST:Mag.

I'm fine with them not wanting them to steal the spotlight from players, but I'd still like the events to at least be referred to in-game in some way. Couldn't they at least have some NPC chatter, or include a nod to it during some dialogue in a special event?

When you're on Drozana Station or ESD you occasionally hear NPC's singing your praises. What I'd like to see, is a short five or six line debate over who's the better captain - You or Shon.
... Ideally, and there's no chance of it happening, I'd also like to have a news terminal (Possibly in your ready room) with news that changes based on your level and what missions/accolades you've accomplished...
