Yeah, today they probably still wouldn't make an alien the captain. For the same stupid reasons that TOS wasn't allowed to have a female first officer with pants.

The person running the show is sleeping with the person who was cast in the role and then decided to drop the role after the studio told them to cast someone else :D

The Enterprise F and its captain have been in several episodes of STO, including the lastest of which Sphere of Influence.

As for the stories in Startrek magazine, I assume startrek magazine pays for those stories and Cryptic benifits by the free advertizing in the magazines that these stories reperesents.

And I have the feeling that we have not heard the last of the Enterprise F in the game.

I actually HATE Shon. Ive always felt he was a token Andorian, picked by Kestral and Cryptic to be something different and edgy. I still believe there is NO WAY a tv series would have made an alien the Captain, much less THE captain of an Enterprise. Cryptic chosing to go that route just hurt the credibility of the writing staff for this game's Star Trek universe.

Racist drivel. Go read this: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=14395821&postcount=3

Yes, having an alien as the captain on a TV series is unlikely, because executives are idiots who believe that Change Is Bad and that the best way to make money is to make carbon-copies and stupid kitbashes of stuff that's already popular. But Shran, who Shon is a transparent expy of, did great as a supporting character on Enterprise, and CBS is generally more open to these things when Trek is doing it.

Besides. Five years ago people would've laughed at the idea of a sitcom about two TRIBBLE men trying to get a baby. And now we have "Modern Family".
Wah wah whah, I'm a racist idiot and I hate Shon and his crew and any ship that isn't one thousand percent canon and WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS CONTENT I HATE ANYWAY?????

Jeez, dude, chillax. And listen to yourself. That entire paragraph was illogical.
Also, I get that the players are supposed to be the star Captain and crew in this game, but I think the Enterprise F and crew should have a meatier (more dialogue) part of the STO story arc in game than what Cryptic is doing now. It needs to feel more Star Treky, and if you send the F off in deep space, after you "lost" the E, that doesnt feel right. Im fine with being the 1b star captain of the show. But since you forced the F and crew into this game, you cant disrespect the Enterprise or disrespect THAT captain's chair.

Blah, blah, blah, you want more story, you want it to feel more like Star Trek (never mind that Star Trek had a bunch of wars, Q, a couple of apocalypses, and a lot of temporal craziness in addition to the more "typical" exploration fare), and you hate Shon because you're a speciesist.
Im done buying ships for my Fed captains. However, if you make some alternate parts for the Odyssey, I could be tempted to buy one. My particular complaint with the Odyssey is the whale belly on it. If a hull for it was to look very Sovereign looking (a toned gut, not a beer belly), the hull would be all that I wanted to change to get me to buy one.

OK. Legitimate complaint. The Oddy is a space whale. That's the point. It has a turn rate of 6 deg/sec, for Q's sake. And that's not a reason to never buy Fed ships ever again, but I bet that you've already bought everything short of the Oddys, so that line was a waste of space and time.
Can we please get a straight answer from new EP Stephen or Branflakes as to if and when the STO players are going to get official access to Shon's stories outside of the ST Magazine?

They don't have to answer a question like that. Dude. Most of the guys on these forums have subscriptions to ST magazine. I do. I know that most if not all of my fleet does.

Bottom line is, it's a Star Trek Magazine exclusive. You want to read it? You buy the magazine. So your answer is 99.999% likely to be "never".

Now please, think before you post next time.

I kind of think the Enterprise should be mentioned more in-game, like with NPCs gossiping about their latest shenanigans. They're not the star of the game, but three separate shows have proven that the Enterprise gets the fun stuff happening to it, and at the moment the Enterprise is just a particularly well-armed reinforcement in some fights. It might be nice to have the Enterprise occasionally show up at ESD, and be hailable so you can catch up on their recent adventures.

    --

Much as I dislike Shon (he feels too gung-ho and Rugged? to be a 25C Enterprise captain, IMO anyway), the idea of an alien captain is one I am completely fine with. It makes sense, and I was always disappointed at the lack of alien crew members in the shows.

I don't know. Just look at DS9. It seems to me that some cracks in the veneer were showing in that show. Shon is an Andorian to boot, which are a wild hearted but overall well meaning bunch. I've got no problem with Shon, although his Caitian officer is a bit shrill in that one mission.

At any regard, I have to say to a few of you other folks: STOP HATING ON THE ODDY! So what if you don't like it. I don't like all the iterations of the Enterprise equally. Personally its my favorite Cruiser in the Federation line, at least for looks. As for seeing more of the advntures that would be nice. At the same token I'd like to see a little more backstory done up on what's going on in the Klingon Empire. Its a little sad you learn more about whats going on on the Empire by playing a Fed (STILL) than by being in the Empire.

I think it stems from the idea that humans are on average more willing to work at getting along with other species and work at getting other species to work with each other (also why the human DOFFs get Teamwork and Tactful). Note how Archer was able to get the Vulcans, Andorians, and Tellerites to talk to each other when they were on the verge of war, or any of the times that Kirk or Picard were able to avert a conflict.

I was at work when I fired off the OP, and didnt have time to respond. Ive read everyone's points.

First. Im not really racist in real life, if you were thinking that, Im Hispanic and a black male is my personal doctor.

Second. This isnt really irking me THAT badly. I think Kestral sucks as a writer for this game. And Ive been calling for her head for years. My underlying point is that its just a stupid decision by Cryptic, among their many hundreds of bad decisions a year, to keep the only pure story content of the game locked away in a magazine. Ive spent about $60-$70 a year since I got here. Some crazy people have spent a ton more. Are we not all entitled to ALL the content thats related to this game? I doubt Kestral will change my mind that shes a great writer, but the one thing she has 100% control of (considering she doesnt have to cater to gameplay or new game feature or wooden NPCs) is locked away OUTSIDE of the player's reach if they dont want to pay for the mag. The ST Mag just isnt worth subscribing to in my opinion. Theres no TV series on, and the movies are too long between each. I dont thumb through the ST mag while Im in a bookstore until a new movie is 2-3 months away from release. If its a content source for the mag, great, but 2-3 months later, what use do they get from it? Not like many people make the effort to go back and buy back issues if they werent already subscribing. I got into this game for the STORY. And the pure story is on yet another pay carrot

We know how bad this game is starving for story content. Now Cryptic has it in their head they gotta make us go through grind for story snippets. I havnt done it. I never finished the Nukara grind stories or any grind after it. Dont know what the story is besides the whole full feature episodes. If I was the lead writer for this game, Id be writing 5-10 pages of story content a month as a STO website article and just a readable log in game. How hard is that to produce? Our story appetites could have been being fed all these years without interruption if we had just got some novel type story material to read and get us through those dry months, or that dry YEAR. If shes such a great writer for this game, isnt story just oozing from her for this STO timeline? Write for petes sake, WRITE! Feed us story! Maybe then I could be won back to her side, and enjoy her story telling. I keep begging Cryptic to give her a chance to win me over, and they keep her in a dark cave somewhere and we barely get a peep of STO lore out of her.

Shon IS a token Andorian, plain and simple. Its like someone you work with got their job via affirmative action, then they come in and STINK at their job. Oh, Im not being a true Star Trek fan, Gene taught me nothing, yada yada yada. No. Im a sci-fi realist. An alien lead captain of a Star Trek show was not or WILL NOT get ratings. Its why they didnt do it. If it was just the next logical step, then why did we not get a show featuring an alien captain lead after Enterprise? Its because bottom line, the concept isnt profitable. If it wont work on tv, it wont work in this particular MMO. And Cryptic nails my point home when they barely let us hear from him. I read the point about the makeup requirement and quality actors wouldnt sign on for that. Thats a valid point, but I think my ratings point trumps that. I also think some CBS suits realized that if they did go with the idea for an alien lead, what would inevitably happen is the writers trying too hard to differentiate the character from a human and writing the character into a disaster. I mean, they still screwed up Janeway.

So Cryptic decides to "make a splash" with the first alien Captain of the Enterprise, then proceeds to do next to nothing with him. How stupid is that? I guess thats what ticks me off the most. Im not even given the chance to come to love an Andorian Enterprise Captain. Then he was written to be a complete tool in that DS9 FE series, to the point that I was like "WHAT THE ****, you gave the chair to HIM?!" when I saw who was picked.

So between the stupid idea to even go away from a human Enterprise captain, then go with player sentiment to just go ahead and use an alien finally, to appear to no longer be racist like the shows were, then take that opportunity and totally THROW IT AWAY, just adds to the frustration I have with this dev team.

Even the F crew are lame. And homely. Werent they some of the ugliest NPCs you've seen? Its like they just used the character generator, which by default makes ugly NPCs, and went with that, fully knowing that this was the ENTERPRISE crew, and attractiveness for the most famous crew in the series is kind of a minimum requirement. Just no attention to detail at all. And if they are having a good time and being well written in the magazine stories, I certainly have no idea.

Being Hispanic, I wanted a hot female Hispanic woman with the sex drive of Kirk to be the new F captain. When I didnt get that, I created an alt to be her. :D

And in case you were wondering, of my 4 Fed toons and crew they are 99% humans. Even my KDF Captain is a human female  :D

When I was talking to Enterprise crew on First contact day I was disappointed how they created them. I thought at least Yoshi O'Brien would have more details on her face. Their stories could be longer too.. I hope they will make some updates for next meeting with them.

There's over a decade between TMP and WoK: 7410.2 to 8130.3. We have no idea how long Spock was captain or how long the Enterprise was a training vessel after the events of TMP. Spock might have been captain for years. They had to give the ship to someone after Decker was lost.

The Ody is fugly and uninteresting.

Shon is a BAD captain that managed to loose a Defiant class ship, its only proper and fair he was demoted to a freighter. Unfortunately freighters are actually useful, so off to an Ody he was sent.

Honestly, if people want more story in the game... and most do, how about its involving OUR captains instead of a poorly thought out NPC.
