its been stated a thousand times that its not about the quality of the ship.. its about the presidence that has been set, and the fact that this even (the anniversary) event wasn't about us doing another chore, but about cryptic showing appreciation for all of us who stick around.. I have never played a game (and I have played a lot) where during the anniversary event, I had to grind (or pay for) the event prize.. it is usually a gesture from the gaming company as a thank you...
this is now gone.. and thus has nothing to do with the ship.. I don't care if its the be all end all ship, or the crappiest ship ever, its not the point..
Totally agree with you, I was leaning more towards I am done talking and will wait and see, we are just churning the same old butter.
Except that the "do something to obtain" doesn't involve any financial input*, only time; I'm not sure how this equates to "not free".
*Unless one choses to purchase lobi.
Don't try to play dumb to win an argument. A lot of private contractors charge for travel time and mileage which is "time" spent in the car. Similarly, contractors may charge for somebody cancelling a job on short notice because of lost opportunities even if they didn't work. That's defining time as money and lost opportunities, concepts that are common in Western societies.
Hey at least it's not like World Of War craf that has current 75 factions to grind rep with
yeah but where do you think were gonna be in two years..
and the faction rep grind isn't as tedious.. you lose nothing, and gain everything.. this game, its costs me roughly 500 thousand ec every time I fill a toons faction rep.. in wow, you go and do dailys, turn them in, and you gain gain gain.. you do not have to spend anything..
and... you don't necessarly have to do any of their faction grinding.. as they do not unlock "endgame" content, and they do not unlock "passive" perks.. cryptic designed them so anyone who wants to stay current and competitive, has to do them..
I have skipped doing any faction grinds in wow, and it did not effect my endgame experience..
You call 5 mins a day grinding? and you don't have to do it no ones holding a phaser to your head. Looking forward to the new ship and cant wait to see what they do for the event.
well i said this already but someone said it was mute
its not that it isn't a good argument, its just, this thread is not about the quality of the ship, or how we get a quality ship, its about the anniversary event, and the big f-u we are getting..
im not complaining that they are releasing a crappy ship, or blah blah blah.. just that they are crapping on the player base.
the anniversary event was always a featured episode, that granted a free ship at the end of the 1 piece of content.. not anymore.. now its a money grab...

It is not again about 5 minutes is about having to do this event to obtain the FREE ship 16 days in total per each character. Per each ship, so if you want to have all 3 ships is 48 times, c'mon don't play dumb now.

That is 4 hours total spread over 21 (?) or whatever available days for the event. If it is 21 days, that is 0.008% of the allotted time. It is approximately 10 min per day over 21 if you for example do 2 characters each day, rotating one out... one of the days you may have to do all 3 of them, perhaps twice at the most (doing this in my head, but I am close).
IF it is only 5 min a day, its not an overwhelming grind as far as such things go, even for all 3 characters. That still does not make the grind a good idea, fun, or any less boring and dull. But 5/day is a tiny grind, all things considered. I spend more time than that daily setting up my DO missions. If you *play* the game, you will spend more time than that in loading screens or pointless travel each day.

yes, but add it to the rest of the "maintenance grind" time, and your talking about hours a day.. of doing what "they" want you to do, instead of what "you" want to do...
To the devs the best thing to do is tie the daily to the other FE episodes for replay with no cool down. So if I want the ship I get the 400 for the initial mission then let each segment of each FE offer the 20 or 40 so I can complete it in one sitting doing every a replay of every FE. Or have the rewards on 40 or 60 random foundry missions completed. The problem witht he grind is the repetitive nature of 1 mission. THe more the pool of missions the less repetitive it feels.
Hey I Used to be Captain Data, well I guess I still am in game but the account link really screwed everything up
I'm in no way looking forward to another time sink rep grind but my tune may change if these vessels are worth having
One has to wonder why seeing has this new event is supposed to celebrating STO's 4th year of existence and has a thank you to the players that continue to support STO why the rep still has a 20 hour cool down?
I say that this anniversary event should be repeatable every two hours and anyone that would like to spend Lobi to get commendations faster should be able to get 3 commendations per each Lobi spent.
I need a minute or so just to rant on Lobi.
Outside of when Cryptic runs any Lobi promo, the only way for the player to get lobi is from opening lock boxes.
On average each lock box key cost about $1.25 and again on average each lock box opened yields about 5 lobi per box.
Take into account that the most Lobi store vessels cost 800 Lobi each and to run the math a player would need to open 160 Lock boxes to amass the needed 800 Lobi for the ship so the cost of the Lobi Ship becomes 160 x 1.25 = $200.00
I know the math is not perfect but it's in the ballpark and that is just an insane amount of money to be paying for a per Character Ship unlock.
I know that many like to follow the mantra "Greed is Good" but in this case it is not.
yes, but add it to the rest of the "maintenance grind" time, and your talking about hours a day.. of doing what "they" want you to do, instead of what "you" want to do...
That does not work. If you have a daily grind, you are already doing that anyway. You can't lump these together to point at the new, temporary event grind and blame it for hours of time when it accounts for a tiny fraction of that. Oh noes, they added 5 min to my daily 2 hour grind???
Speaking of which, players are doing this to themselves. All 'they' want is your money. They could care less if you grind 8k dil on 10 characters or farm 1000 marks a day or spend the whole day trolling local chat at ds9. If *you* turn the game into a full time job, *you* did that.
So for the rest of us who are normal players and work or study and have a real life and cannot play everyday we are basically SCREWED?
Dude. I'm double enrolled (doing college at the same time as highschool) and my schedule is freaking insane. I also work part time. I have 15 minutes to devote to a single mission on STO. Seriously, budgeting time is your friend. Less fap more play
Not affected or restricted by a given condition or circumstance.
Not controlled by obligation or the will of another.
Not subject to a given condition; exempt.
Given, made, or done of one's own accord; voluntary or spontaneous.
So Mr. Encyclopedia you see when Cryptic says they are giving us a free ship but we must do something to obtained that assumed FREE ship is no longer free.
Nothing is free in this or any game as your definition clearly says. So we don't really need to discuss what free means. Even doing a mission for a "free" ship would be a condition.
We get it, no one wants to do any work for the ship that requires playing repetitive content. Many people won't mind putting in a little effort though for something they value. I have 14 toons and I may or may not do the mission depending on the stats but even If I have to spend 1 hour a day it's still nothing after 16 days out of 25+. The mission last year was a piece of cake and took a couple minutes to complete. If it is of value to you... you will find a way to do the missions or you wont. It's that simple.

Some people are done with their other grinds... I just started doing reps with the last season update on 13 of my 14 toons and I only have 4 left to finish who are tier 4. It doesn't take long anymore and many many people did the grinds as they were released so there isn't much going on for those folks. Might not be your case but you can choose to put those grinds aside for now if its important to you. I did that with starbase stuff because I want my reps out of the way.
There really isn't enough time in the day to do every grind you can in this game simultaneously especially with multiple toons. You have to choose which ones matter more and do those. Since this is limited time I would make it a priority first.

Exactly my point that 15 days to obtain 1 ship is not enough time.
Exactly my point that 15 days to obtain 1 ship is not enough time.
They did say the event would be running for ~25 days... so we do get 3 weeks plus change to get it. The punishing part is we only have the luxury of being able to miss a week and a half of that (ie 10 days) and still be able to get the ship. Not a huge issue if you have one toon, but with multiples (I'm a lightweight, only 5) it has the potential to get really bad really fast.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.

Indeed and seems that the devs don't see this crucial point.
If this is another grind, it'll be another ship (or ships) that I'll be choosing to miss out on. I don't mind the grind for winter/summer ships so much, but for the anniversary ones when they've been free previous years? Hah! I think not.

^^^^This...
To suggest tht you have any idea what it is like to live someone else's life when you haven't even lived your own is arrogant and insulting.
I have a house that needs maintenance, with a mortgage that eats money, a job that changes schedule at the whim of clients, a wife who wants my time, pets that need my time, sheep that demand time, two kids with special needs who EAT my time (and sanity) and I play this game just to escape it all. I play when I can, I pay for Zen when I can, but most of the time I have an hour of free time a day, and most of that time happens to be when I'm away from internet fast enough to support STO.
All this misses the point, though. Someone said it before, and I quoted it earlier: If I were to for my wedding anniversary tell my wife "Hey, I got you this great gift, all you have to do is 10 mins of work a day for 2 weeks and I'll give it to you" you know I would be seen as the biggest TRIBBLE$ around.
Hey STO:
Happy Anniversary!
"Logic is a little tweeting bird chirping in a meadow. Logic is a wreath of pretty flowers which smell BAD." - Spock
I still think the REAL crucial point the devs are missing is that we just got out of that kind of grind with the winter event and don't want to start over again.
PPl will loose intrest in that whole special event ships if there is one CONSTANTLY.
Not that it isn't annoying enough every half year, but every two weeks?

I love this analogy. :P ... for the wrong reasons might I add. It's very true though, and relates.

^^^^ THIS and ^^^^^ THIS again, so far no one single response from the devs about our dislike of this unnecessary grind. Do you just want us to buy the ship? Just come out and say so, put it in the C-Store and we will buy it, but don't sugarcoat it with the term "FREE"
I wanted to chime in here once more on my thoughts on all this bickering about this being another grind that people with 20+ toons have to worry about. This change to the way they're doing the anniversary reminds me of when they first announced the reputation system. It changed the way Omega stuff was earned, but the complaints eventually died down.
First off, when you went and leveled each of those toons up (I'm assuming you got them all to level 50 here), you were basically grinding for skill points and expertise, with the end reward of getting a free ship ship at each rank.
Second, Brandon stated earlier on in one of his posts yesterday the following statement:
We have other giveaways planned that will lead up to the anniversary where you can just log-in and claim an item for free, like the summer giveaway last year -- more info on that soon, too. So there are some free, no-work-necessary items that will be given away.
For those of you who weren't here for the last week of the summer event, we had that week of free stuff offered (DS9 costume, TOS command tunic, Yellowstone Runabout, To'Duj Fighter, Nova refit, Phalanx science vessel, Nebula (Tier V) and the Marauder Flight deck cruiser). The giveaway is gonna be similar to this.
Third, Brandon also stated that there's a reason why they implemented the ships behind the event reputation grind. Think about previous events that they've given a special ship away. CBS didn't want everyone able to be able to fly non-faction ship that was given away, so when they started to offer the Breen ships, they introduced the whole 1000 pictures of Q to be traded in. This eventually got tied into the event reputation introduced during the spring and summer when they offered the Risian corvette.
The previous ships for years 2 and 3 of the anniversary were obviously limited time ships. The ambassador/kamarag tier 3 ships stayed free ships as a mission reward since it was the only way to get them. The Odyssey, Bortas and the tier V Ambassador/Kamarag were all eventually added to the fleet shipyards.
Going back to the ships being given away behind the event reputation this year, we know the following things about the ships so far: They're science ships part of the time, they're hybridized with the dyson sphere technology and there's at least two new mechanics being introduced with these ships. Since they are far from standard ships, they fit in with the whole notion that they shouldn't be given away simply for running the mission.
Finally, to those complaining about having to grind the FE over and over: You Don't. The FE gives a 1 time reward of 400 Qmendation. The usual daily that comes with the anniversary will offer the rest of the tokens you'll need. The reason why they do the whole 20 hour cooldown with any of these things is so that you'll have to log in every day to complete it. It goes back to the point of not being able to get the ship right away from grinding away repeatedly.
I'm sure that as we learn about these new ships, you guys will stop overreacting. At least wait until you see what the ships can do before you start erupting like volcanoes.
Did you bother to hear our points or you just are a pawn of Cryptic to shut us up?
Did you really bother to read what you wrote? Dude that is plain nonsense, for 3 years we have received free ships and now is that CBS noticed it? Oh please shut up.
My meaning was that I love it because it's true, when I shouldn't love it because this shouldn't be happening. We shouldn't be grinding for an anniversary ship.
A simple solution, put packs of Q marks in the C-Store, that way folks have a clear choice to grind for the ship or pay for it, or even do a bit of both. Rather than making it another stupid gamble for those who don't want or have the time to grind.
Those who don't want to do either? Could always give them a trimmed down version for 600 marks, that way they can claim it after a single run through, but wont have the whizzy extras which are driving the change to a grind. They can carry on having the poor cousin version as per the Odyssey, Ambassador and even the Obelisk.

1st time through on any toon: 1000 marks
All other times through are regular marks
Did you bother to hear our points or you just are a pawn of Cryptic to shut us up?
Did you really bother to read what you wrote? Dude that is plain nonsense, for 3 years we have received free ships and now is that CBS noticed it? Oh please shut up.
They'll still complain though. lol
