The change of Exec-Prod is irrelevant when it's still Geko who really calls the shots and continues to ignore player opinion on what goes into the game.

    Congratulations and welcome aboard.

Since I don't get the opportunity to speak with Star Fleet Command directly I would like to avail myself this opportunity to post some serious consideration requests.

I too have seen the original series as it aired and many of the sequel creations that followed as well as all of the feature length movies. Having grown up with Star Trek this STO (Cryptic) effort brought back many fond memories and the thirst to hopefully see something of an actual warp drive star ship launched while I'm still alive to see it. Obviously I have my doubts that such will happen in my life time, but with the development of the cell phone (Star Trek communicator) and now the development of the, and soon to be released on the market, Medical Tricorder slated for this fall of 2014 after FDA approval, anything of the reality is a welcome sight.

Having said that, the reality part is what's on my mind. Could the good folks at STO put a bit more focus into giving us a more realistic looking graphic of the various ships, space stations, characters and so on as opposed to something that takes on a more cartoonist look?

Also, could we get back to the realism of scientific study and theory, the things that made what some call scientific babble due to a lack of scientific study, the part of Star Trek that today has come to fruition in reality? Case in point, the Dyson Sphere. Little to no lead up is involved for the existence of a Dyson Sphere so many people have no clue what a Dyson Sphere actually is nor what it would take to create such a feat. The story line around this part of STO gives no story line to even try to suggest why there would be an external surface of a Dyson Sphere that has an atmosphere nor gravity. Further, the theory relies on a star within the sphere to supply the basic survival needs within the sphere's inner wall and yet no effort is being shown to suggest anyone is seeking any entry inside the sphere.

Then there's the dinosaur thing. That one went over the top. Unless STO gets back to the realism aspect you might as well contract Fisher Price to do the graphics work. Just one Captains opinion.

Anyway, so as not to put a damper on anyone's spirits, there's my two cents worth and a sincere welcome aboard. I'm looking forward to an adventure and all the experiences in excellence to come.

The game really has improved and been getting better. Often times it may seem like everything is just bad and nothing good is happening but it's just not true. Many people are enjoying and having fun in Star Trek Online and while always wanting to see things get better, they are having a overall happy experience. So thank you Mr Stahl and the rest of the STO team for making a fun game that we can all enjoy, best of luck with your next project.

Looking forward to seeing further improvement to the game and to enjoying it more. Thank you to all the people that work on making STO the game it is and making it better and better over the years.

I agree entirely. The Devs and EVERYONE involved with STO should be commended for their hardwork and dedication. Everyone involved with STO has brought us the most enjoyable MMO ever.

I wish Dan all the very very best in his new project, and wish him every success with it.

because every time a game is getting develop it is the champions devs that are moved to work on it and champions linger in its dismal state.

You do realize that just last June, PWE opened up a new studio, Cryptic North (located in Seattle) that is focused almost entirely on Champions Online?

Speaking as a longtime player of both STO and CO, I have to laugh at all the people here complaining about radio silence from the STO executive producer.

Go over to the CO boards and check out when the last State of the Game or UNTIL Report came out. Go ahead, go check - I'll wait.

So, what "silence" are you complaining about again?

im very aware of that, for the last 2 games sto and now was in production, it was champions devs that were taken from their project. remember that is for now and when the new game needs devs it will be champions to pay that bill yet again. champions is/has been the redheaded step child of this company, and I don't see it ending. oh and here is a post I found "as well as supporting efforts on both Star Trek Online and Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter"

Stahl has been a great lead for Star Trek Online, and I was very happy to see him back after he left the first time.

I do hope, I admit, that he returns to STO again someday.

And what pray tell, has this mythical "Cryptic North" accomplished for CO since?

The articles you linked were posted over 6 months ago. Things change. And we've heard NOTHING since then regarding Cryptic North. For all we know, it's since been closed, to focus on this "4th project"

I'm pretty sure the STO Foundry fanatics will claim that it was STO's dev resources that were shanghai'd to work on Neverwinter, not CO's.

and the only reason for that is because champions never had the foundry.

Bug fixes. Many bug fixes, some of which had been languishing for years. And Auras were introduced, making many players giddily happy (and others angrily frustrated, because the Auras didn't work the way they were hoping - so it goes). Oh, and a couple of new costume sets, including one that was promised us way back when they were talking about having an Alert that took place in Victorian England.

Looking forward to all C-Store ships being converted into single-purchases, decreased content, and increased Zen-prices...

    Just like last time.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

the project that stahl went to work on I bet is not an mmorpg, it is a game or games to be played on consoles or xbox live. similar to call of duty

Kind of funny how they ended last week with a screen shot and then saying 8.5 coming soon and then we get a reminder of the past :)

It would be so fun to be a sniper during the risa event :) They could sell us risian duck blinds to blend in and maco and khg amphibious assault costumes.

Naw they are first going to take all the leveling content of STO, CO, and NW and put it into a console game and at the end it will say to continue download arc at the website.

A while back I responded to a survey of the best STO seasons from 1 to 8. The one where D'Angelo was EP and Dstahl left for Zynga was at the bottom of the list.

My morale for STO is now slipping from cautious optimism to skeptical uncertainty.

I think D'Angelo got an even worse hand dealt to him than Zinc. He did inherit the game under a mandate to go F2P when they had a dramatically reduced team.

I think the big things I'd have concerns about from his tenure:

    - He made the call for the lockbox Galor or at least signed off on it, when Stahl has said he would have vetoed it because of longterm implications.

    - He's a bigger fan of Asimov than Bradbury, if memory serves. (I believe he might even dislike Bradbury.) This kind of thinking can make me nervous as it can veer towards nuts and bolts engineering over passionate, humanistic stories. That may appeal to a lot of you though.

I'm sure he'll make the runabouts run on time, achieve goals, and hit targets. I think we probably have a better chance at seeing his vision this time when we wouldn't have before and would also guess that the next 6-8 months will still have things Stahl contributed to in them.

I'm curious to see what his vision is.

Here are some quotes from D'Angelo over the years:
Hard science fiction is my favorite. This kind of writing puts plot and ideas at the center. Characters can be flat and barely portrayed. The point is to present an idea of physics, mathematics, psychology, or something else in a coherent plot. Larry Niven and Greg Bear are great examples of this kind of writing.
My favorite author is Larry Niven.
Some people like Ray Bradbury but his writing mostly comes across as space fantasy and with a few exceptions does not impress me a lot.
I have a love for the independent press and of quality black-and-white books over mass-produced color ones. Marvel and DC have a lot of history and a lot of great heroes, but many of the books seem so flat and rehashed. The small press had a lot of bombs, but it also had some of the best work around.

My personal favorite is Usagi Yojimbo by Stan Sakai. This book is amazing!

He's "gone" from STO, if that's what you mean, but he's here at Cryptic working on a top secret new project; it's pretty exciting.

And no, what you're guessing is completely inaccurate and you know it :)

    Cheers,

For the love of god please say its a stargate mmo
