No more adventure zones please They are all the same. How about Season 9: Strange New Worlds? Have the 2 1/2 in game factions compete for first contact with new worlds and civilizations on the other side of the Iconian gateway.
Technically, since the Romulans are allied with the federation and the klingons, it would really be the federation and the klingons competing to see who will find new civilizations. As of now, the Iconian gateway in the Jouret system leads to the Solanae Sphere. In order to explore the outside, we would need to have an exit from the Solanae Dyson sphere and have a new sector block added with it on it. I doubt the Voth will let us just leave.
How about a fully fleshed out exploration and discovery system that was talked about for the past four years?
I'm trying not to be unreasonable. We knocked out the playable Romulan faction. In my sincere opinion, Season 9 (or another near-future season) should be about exploration.
Not the Genesis system at launch whose flaws are very noticable and which is obsolete by 'today's game.
But a fully interactive, robust, and ingenius system that replaces the Genesis system entirely. Open up all of the exploration zones in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. Remove all the sector walls. Make Star Trek Online's new narrative exploration.
Let us become the only ships for hundreds if not thousands of lightyears around. Make a reputation system based on exploration and how many 'new worlds' and 'new civilizations' you discover. Use this time to revamp the Foundry and take it out of Beta. Let Foundry authors put their creativity to use and create exploration missions and other unique 'episodic' one-off experiences that you come across.
Not complex, multi-part stories. But small, brief interactive missions. Rewards based on time played. Have a fool-proof moderation system to link non-farming Foundry missions 'flagged' for exploration missions. Use your 'freeze' technology to freeze a Foundry mission as it is, without further alterations to prevent authors from abusing it when their exploration mission is put in a star cluster. Reward the authors for allowing players to 'explore' their Foundry missions. Reward people for being creative and taking part.
Do away with the 'starring' system where trolls dictate what to play and what not. Allow authors to remove negative commentary the same way blog authors are able to. It's their mission, don't let the lowest common denominator one-star a mission without putting any input. Put these in the star clusters so people won't know who wrote them, but have someone on Cryptic's end moderate every single mission put in there.
Seed the star clusters with small missions, allow players to grow on it from there. A different 'cause' for each star cluster to be explored. For the Federation it can be exploring while trying to 'find' the keys to something in the Iconian storyline. For the KDF it can be conquering and subjecting new worlds while hunting the Iconians planet-to-planet.
This is what I feel Star Trek Online should be. Should have been. Devote Season 9 to exploration. Build a reputation system around it if you want. Build an Iconian McGuffin in it to further the storyline "the hunt for Iconian gateways" or whatever. Build a fleet holding 'outpost' to service the star clusters if you want.
But let us explore strange new worlds. And fix and overhaul the Foundry to put more power into the authors hands and out of the hands of trolls and idiots who have no business 'critiquing' anything for the rest of the playerbase to read.
The game Battlefield, the game DICE company in question announced that all DLCs is on hold, until they fixed all the major problems that game is having. If they can do it, so can anyone else within reason.
Much as I agree, it won't happen. They won't devote an entire Season's content to bugfixing because bugfixing doesn't sell.
Since we're getting some sort of Content for S9, I would like to see a revamp of the Omega, Romulan and Nukara reps to bring them in line with the new Dyson rep, and a revamp of Defera, New Romulus and Nukara Prime to give gameplay and rewards similar to the Battlezone.
Ship interiors. Empty planets like defera bajor andoria vulcan etc. Fix patrols and first contacts. Fix crafting. And for god's sake, how about an episode series that's not six episodes long like breen/borg/undine or that abomination amalgamation of fetch quests, sphere. More campaigns with content level of cardassian struggle/romulan mystery. Fix the tailor.
And no more stupid subspace gates when we still have a canonically established wormhole on the other side of which is a race the iconians told us they couldn't take in a fight right now. We need to go get the dominion and forge an alliance before we take the fight through the gateway.
A friend of my uncles brothers nephew works at cryptic and they told me it was PVP as they put the PvP parts in place in season 8.
I'm almost certain you're trolling.

I can agree with this, I'd love a massive map. It would make slipstream and autopilot relevant again. I don't see it happening though, that would require a massive overhaul.

If the Legacy of Romulus expansion showed me anything, it's that they are capable of pulling off something of this measure. Most of the systems are already in place. The foundation to build this exploration idea is already there. They have the tools they need. Everything I've mentioned is certainly plausible. Would it be easy? Probably not. But nothing worth doing ever is.
They'd have to overhaul things, sure. But it's not like they'd be re-designing the entire game from the ground up.
They could rely on the players as well to assist in making immersive exploration possible. Though I'm still of the opinion that the trolls need policing more than the authors do, they could further delegate exploration missions to the players. With enough vetting in the regular Foundry, a mission could find itself in the proper star cluster once it's given the stamp from someone at Cryptic who knows exactly what it is, what's inside it, and 'freezing' it so it can't be further edited by the author.
1 Player gets to control multiple ships, and can build up all those ships as usual with cores, consoles etc.
And then that player gets to fight with his own fleet against fleets of others.
This could make the game a bit more interesting for me as a tactical/strategical minded gamer and also I have many many many consoles which could then be more usefull instead of sitting in shipyard.
Also for the devs it could be profiteable, this will create some more demand for ships, consoles, gears, etc.
If this idea is truely fun remains to be seen, it could put this game on steroids.
You can get a taste of what it would be like with either carrier pets, or fleet credit reinforcements which fly with you a little bit or maybe even reputation reinforcements...
I would want some more control over it all though a bit like carrier pets... perhaps a little bit better ai and such
Oh yeah and bring back "sort by expire time" it was one of the most usefull things in the game to spot new stuff, price per unit only shows cheap TRIBBLE under reward packs so that sux.
I would like to see even more sorting or filtering options on the exchange... can't remember exactly what I wanted but it was something like sort by name, then sort by price or so... or sort by expire time and something and also more options for ascending/descending, this should be a box in itself and not part of the search criterias' name... maybe even multiple of these boxes, to sort 1st stage, 2st stage, 3st stage.
Or work with columns and then simply sort when clicking on a column... if the sort is implemented simply and properly this will auto sort it depending on the path that was clicked through the columns.
If they do finish the Iconian storyline, they'd almost have to introduce new enemies, at least in practice - the Iconians aren't new as such (what with having been mentioned all the way since the Romulan FE, and there's the Obex showing up in a couple of missions), but since all they currently have is a ship, a probe and a faction symbol, if we want the end of the Iconian storyline to involve actually fighting or doing much interacting with the Iconians, Cryptic would have to introduce, at the very least, ground forces for them, and quite likely a couple of ships as well.
It would be nice to visit the Delta Quadrant and explore what happened after Voyager got home.
Neelix's asteroid could be a good base to explore the quadrant from
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."

Season 9 should be dedicated entirely to polishing the game. They need to fix graphical anomalies, smooth out animation transitions, make the game more responsive, squash gameplay bugs, and improve general quality of life. After that, they can use this new polished foundation to move forward and create content.

I agree totally. There's only one problem.
PWE sees numbers. If they don't see enough $$ numbers, they aren't happy (bad things will happen to Cryptic if they aren't happy). Fixes, as much as we all like them, don't make money.
However, someone at Cryptic should just tell PWE, "Look. For the past few season we've made a lot of new content that made money. I think we've got enough revenue from that to justify working on a quality of life season. It would not only make the players happier and more inclined to spend money, but would make the game look better and more appealing overall. In the short term it might cost a little, yes, but in the long term it will be advantageous."
I think in season 9 it'd be nice to take the fight to the Mirror Universe and teach them a thing or two about invading ours. Mirror themed events and adventure zones with a fleet holding that has things like fleet level mirror starships and similar weapons/gear/kits to the prime universe but with a twist and a mirror universe reputation grind with new sets etc etc.
I'd love to be at earth spacedock, pull up the map, double click DS9 and it sets in auto piolet and goes. No loading screens, no asking me if I want to warp, just break down the walls and build a full galaxy map. No more entering systems or having to go to every indecidual sector, just make it one massive map with all the planets and players in one huge map. WoW did it, sto could too. I really like Evea galaxy map setup, they should revamp it to something like that.

I see this a lot. Season 'X' should be the bug fix season. Bugs need to be fixed all the time, like between seasons, and to their credit, the team do fix a lot of stuff. I'd like them to fix more and even moreso like them to fix all the stuff that affects me. I was never affected by the recent trippy screen bug, but a bunch of the guys I play with were. They just fixed some bugs with FAW and TS not critting properly. They fix a bunch of stuff all the time and the way code works combined with the number of different possible PC configurations means they'll probably never fix them all. Ever.
I'd be all for a season release being delayed because of a big bug fix drive, but a season dedicated to them? What an anticlimax that would be. "No new stuff this year guys, but we fixed a bunch of old stuff. Oh, we did make a new lock box though."
I'm not flaming, I agree that the game is riddled with bugs - some of which are frankly ridiculous, such as the various chat bugs (how are they even bugs???) - I'm just making the point that bug fixing is and should be an ongoing thing, not something they only do once every four months and that there can never be a patch to end all bugs.
"So my fun is wrong?"
No. Your fun makes everyone else's fun wrong by default.

B-B-B-But Cryptic did a quality of life season or two before! Therefore it is a good thing and should be done!
... except that the only time this has happened is when the financial future of Cryptic Studios was in limbo. When Atari cut off Cryptic from its budget. So all Cryptic could really do with their shrinking staff was to address the quality of life in the game. They didn't have the money to create new things.
Which is why I no longer pay any attention to the people asking for a season to be entirely about bug fixes. Because [without being hyperbolic] bug fixing seasons are a sign the game is nearing the end of its life. That means there isn't much money expected to come in. That means there isn't any interest in generating additional revenue.
That means they're grasping at straws.
You know what a "bug fixing season" is in other games?
It's called "Maintenance Mode", and for anyone who has played other MMOs? This is a bad thing you want for STO.
I want bugs fixed too. But asking for a bug fixing season is asking for the game's life to end. And without a Star Trek Online 2 on the horizon, I want my Star Trek MMO to last for a while.
1. Customizable ship interior, including the ability to set a common uniform design and choose what people show up at the various stations -- especially on the bridge. The ability to customize the appearance of the people who show up on the bridge and at the key stations is needed.
Ideally, the only people who would appear milling around the ship are people from the person's DOFF list.
2. Craftable DOFFs. No, this does not mean every doff will be overpowered. It also doesn't mean Cryptic won't be able to sell new DOFFs. There can be various limitations.
3. Deltan BOFFs and Deltans as a playable captain species (with a Zen unlock). Deltan recruitment contact. Along with this, add in a youthful/smooth complexion for men and the ability for men to smile (like the one guy on old Risa did once in a while).
4. Customizable cross-faction reward BOFFs for completing the diplomacy tier. I would like access to all of the Orion traits for my BOFF so I can swap physical strength for seductive. Also, allow Orion males to be customizable so they can at least have a neutral expression instead of perma-frown.
5. Add a nebula to the Pelia sector with a colonization chain. Add one to the Tau Dewa sector. Every sector should have a nebula or cluster with a colonization chain. Provide a purple Deltan as a reward for one of the new ones.
6. Add Klingon space and the Tau Dewa sector to Tour the Universe. Add the nebulas/clusters as well.
7. Improve the customization of male characters. Gluteus maximus slider. Mouth frown to smile slider. Youthful/smooth complexion option with no brown beard stubble. Ideally there would also be a body fat percentage slider so 9% body fat will no longer be the required amount. 14% is nicer.
8. Create a first-look testing server for lifetime members only and reward them with a unique ship (such as a golden T5+ Connie) if they complete a lot of testing and feedback. Make the server content NDA, but the ship playable on Holodeck for one character per account (character bound). I think this is a good idea that would help to sell lifetime subscriptions.
9. Provide an accolade for completing all of the DOFF chains that don't require special items to activate. Provide another accolade for completing all of the DOFF chains, including those that require special items or locations (such as a cell ship or fleet mine).
10. Make a skimpy outfit available for male characters, to balance out the Orion female outfit. The dancer's outfit might work, although it's a bit plain.
11. Make it so that the prisoners can be released at the end of the mission where you slaughter all the Orion bar patrons -- with an accolade for not neglecting them.
12. Make an energy weapon that has synergy with tricobalt torpedoes/mines -- or a console that boosts both tricobalt devices and an energy weapon.
13. Bring back the ability from beta to customize energy weapon colors. Make it so that the custom colors only appear for the player, so others won't be confused about what they're using. Or, there could be an opt out option so players won't see the custom colors.
14. Add an opt out option in the options for social devices like the disco ball so people aren't forced to dance -- and so such things can be used instead of blocked completely. Bring back the Voth cannon for social zones -- only with the opt out option for the screen shake.
15. Make Hive Onslaught normal around the same difficulty level as the other Borg space normal STFs.
16. Add in a new BOFF power that will let your high yield torpedoes not be targetable or be quite difficult to hit. They are so commonly destroyed by the more recent enemies that they're becoming useless. Having to use a BOFF power slot to block the targeting is a double investment for the effectiveness of the torpedo, which seems reasonable.
17. Turn the Orion hideout into a social zone, complete with the dancers, and possibly just for KDF players.
18. Provide one lobi per episode played when not in a special bonus period (like the one we just had with the 15 lobi).
19. Get rid of the binding of DOFFs when using them for space or ground duty. It's nice to have more flexibility for the testing of high-priced DOFFs.
20. If you create a new ground battlezone, consider the Voyager episode with the Undine posing as federation people -- with the fake Starfleet Academy. Friendly fire could be added as a challenge problem -- with players having to develop strategies for differentiating between players and NPCs. However, it would take some design skill to minimize griefing.
21. Bring back the Radiant Plasma torpedo.
22. Let people craft XII gear and lessen the dilithium cost to make crafting more viable.
23. Get rid of the very rare gear category and start calling the gear XIII.
24. Add an episode with romance. TOS was filled with romance. The Voyager Holodeck beach program could be a useful venue for part of it.
25. Add in a Stella DOFF and do something to make Mudd's ship interesting.
I want bugs fixed too. But asking for a bug fixing season is asking for the game's life to end. And without a Star Trek Online 2 on the horizon, I want my Star Trek MMO to last for a while.
Free interns aren't hard to find. People who want to build up an experience portfolio could work on this.
1 Player gets to control multiple ships, and can build up all those ships as usual with cores, consoles etc.

There are Star Trek mods for Sins of a Solar Empire, ya know...

Season 9 I think needs to drop the limitations of Boff Ranks IE: Space/Ship Stations. And put into place a balance of high ranking stations for a given class ship. . The details of which of course many could spectulate on. Personally though I am sick and tired of having an {example] Lt. Commander Tactical on a LT, station. .
Yet our Boff's enjoy full freedom of ranks on ground. . I find this very disgusting.
Combination KDF/Bugfix season. Because one season cycle spent filling out the poor areas of the game won't outright kill it, especially if it's done on the tail of, say, another big moneymaking expansion that can provide the capital to survive on in the meantime.
My Season 9 would be content-light, but the tradeoff is increased stability and a fleshing out of areas in which the KDF presently lacks, two things this game needs just as badly as story content. Additionally, art assets would be a minor focus, also primarily KDF-oriented. As buxfixes are pretty self-explanatory, I'll move on to highlighting what I'd like to see added alongside them.
Season 9's most notable KDF additions would be largely in the character creation department, with fixes on existing outfits such as that one borked Orion shoulder pad the Honor Guard Be'ves option. New additions would include a new free KDF uniform, new hairstyles for Klingons and Nausicaans, female Nausicaans and Letheans, and a major art upgrade to Nausicaans and Letheans in general to look more like their show counterparts. Upgrades to the various existing KDF uniforms would be done as well, but these would be relatively low-key. A new Klingon ridge option would also be added.
Another large addition would be to the KDF's C-store lineup. Specifically, two ship three-packs. The first, to come with the launch, would be a 5/2 BoP with three variants to go up against the Kumari (perhaps with its own version of the Gradius-y wing cannons?).
Finally, to give environment artists something to do, a new bridge for each KDF allied-race ship would be created. These would be locked to the ships in the three-pack (sucks, but there's gotta be an extra carrot to make otherwise poor-selling ships sells, y'know?), but once unlocked, could be used on any ship from their respective races.
If a mission were to be included, it would be KDF-locked. The mission wouldn't add much to the storyline, but would instead serve as a vehicle to make use of some of the new art assets being created for this season. I really can't think of a plot right off hand but obviously it would be political in nature, dealing with maintaining the alliances.
A bug fix season isn't maintenance mode, that might be true if a game hasn't progressed, or been profitable. In STO you can't go anywhere for more than a couple minutes and not see major bugs, if you were objective and just not used to it, you could play all night with a pad of paper and have several sheets full. STO is broken, they continue to break it constantly and they just tape up the chunks that fall off, it needs some major work done to it The major work will never happen because their programmer time is very limited creating new features like power up items that shouldn't be here. We need bug fixes, we need game balances, new content isn't any good when its lol easy mode like everything is now.

I totally agree with this.
Just my wishful thinking.
So, what you really want is a Star Trek RTS, not an MMORPG.
There are Star Trek mods for Sins of a Solar Empire, ya know...

Yet our Boff's enjoy full freedom of ranks on ground. . I find this very disgusting.
The second three-pack would come later after launch. It would be an alien variety pack including; an Orion vessel, Eng-oriented with a Tac favor; a Gorn vessel, Sci-oriented with a Tac favor; and a Nausicaan vessel, Tac-oriented with an Eng favor. Not necessarily as shown in the link, but that's the gist of it.
