Very grateful for the incoming fix Cliff. We've been starved of feedback on this for a while and we were beginning to wonder if this would be resolved.
I'm glad to see the Cryptic had finally decided that this issue is in fact real and that we're not all delusional, but I will withhold judgement until the patch goes live and we see if it actually fixes anything.
Given Cryptic's track record on such things in the past, the first patch will likely not fix the issue at all, then they will release a second patch to fix the first one, and that patch won't work either, but they will insist that it does, and then they will release a third patch for a completely unrelated issue and this issue will be repaired in the process.
That being said, I would love to be proven wrong in the above case, because if I'm wrong, I win.
Hey the news is not all bad!!!! Now you can have pretty toons to look at while your gpu is trying to decipher jibberish coding that they put in the game at season 8..... I mean what is wrong with you people!!??? Do you want to actually play the game how it ran pre season 8? What I mean by that is it ran fairly smooth and you could actually do ground missions and all the space stf's with out awful gpu load drops to 0%..... Yeah that SUCKED being able to play all the content with out massive fps and gpu load drops.... It's working as intended, if that's what you want to call working.... They wont do anything about it because it costs to much to fix what they screwed up.. Its cheaper to make it look dam pretty than it is to make it functional!!!! Woo hoo now a revamped ESD that I can enjoy while my gpu is trying to figure out the garbage coding..
Their pre season 8 coding was a nice sober person talking to you... You could understand it and work with it... Now their improved coding is a really drunk person just blabbering on slurring words and passing out randomly then being woken up..... Yeah if my computer was drunk it could probably understand the coding!!!!!!
Bahahaha Love it
My mind wanders to the thought 'this is what happens when you try to hammer a round piece of software that isn't photoshop into a square mac.'
Now, IF the fix works as intended I'll be very happy indeed. If the fix takes several fixes to fix what the fix broke while maintaining the illusion that the fix did fix what the fix was supposed to fix...I won't be surprised.

Ah but...
If the fix does fix the issue at hand but a subsequent fix then 'un-fixes' the fix that fixed the problem then that fix will give the illusion that the previous fix was a false fix, resulting in another fix to fix the fix.
Now, now. We finally got not only acknowledgement of this issue but an incoming fix as well. Let's not bite the hand that feeds us sweet, sweet graphics bug fixes eh?

We have had a no patch server maintainence today, has the fix been applied or will this be announced in patch notes? Just wondering when the fix will be applied.
Ohh and thanks for the fix, if it wasn't for the fact that I run a fleet I would have left this game months ago.

Okay...so of those who are using the command, has anyone programmed it as a macro key successfully? I just want to know if it macros functionally before I go through the trouble of doing so.

Um no, they really do need to know that we know they screwed up and that this happened because someone just HAD to TRIBBLE with something that wasn't broken.
On another note...
I had been fighting with this since the S8 launch and it got to the point I just said TRIBBLE it and refused to log in for a few months. At the time (November - March) I had been on 7mbps dsl through qwest/centurystink and the loss of texture was a near constant. In March I bumped the service up to the 12mbps option, and tried coming back. Nope still had the bug, though not quite as bad as before. On April 3rd I had cable installed with the top speed option in our area (30mbps) and tried once more to spend more than 20 minutes in the game. To my surprise I have had only one instance where I had to restart the client due to the texture loss issue, and that was on the first day of using the new ISP. In fact just yesterday I played literally all day and never had a single issue.
Whether the ISP in general, the connection speed, or a combination of both was the problem I can only guess, but switching service entirely and the huge speed jump solved my issue lol. I am happy to know they've tracked down the problem on their end though, and that they're planning (or possibly implemented already) a fix for it.

We've been telling them this for literally months now. They KNOW that we know about this. We've posted about it in all different threads across the forum. Some got merged in here, others didn't. This entire thread got moved into this section from the gfx board. They know, they've known this whole time. And now that they found the bug, have a fix for it, and even a temporary work around, getting up in their face about it after the fact serves no purpose. None. At all.
Haven't played since about a week after S8, nice to see a fix is forthcoming.
Had a quick look through the thread, and a lot of people are pretty annoyed by this issue, even to the point of flaming eachother. Personally, if a game is broken, I just go on to something else. I'm playing a different game now, and I don't know if I'll be coming back to STO - depends on whether or not the devs break the game I'm playing now I guess
BTW, does anyone else think that Stargate SG-1 would be an awesome MMORPG?
Peace.

If any devs are still reading this thread are we getting the fix with the new season patch, or are we still imputing manually?
I haven't seen any posts in the tribble update notes about it so unless someone with a gold title comes along and says otherwise, I don't think we will see the fix tomorrow.

Yeah, an update would be nice. I'm wondering if it was more severe than they thought which is why we haven't heard anything since.
Although I'd like to hear an update as well, for the sake of the game's health and the quality of experience for everyone having this issue, I'm content with having crypticcliff's temporary fix working well for the time being.
Was this supposed to be fixed with Season 9 launch?
Because I can pretty much confirm the issue is NOT fixed.
After several location changes I ended up with missing textures/icons. I had to use the workaround from post 608 again.
Yeah, I just had that happen to me as well. However, truth be told - crypticcliff never said how long it will take them to completely sort out the issue. The workaround works well though, so I'm ok as long as I can just type that code and not have to restart the game constantly.
This issue has become 2X worse than S8 and S8.5, we were under the assumption this was going to be resolved, but I see as usual we have to wait forever.
I can confirm that it's been worse now than ever before. I logged into the game in ESD orbit and redid my traits and stuff. After that I beamed down to ESD to run around and check out the finished version and immediately had the missing graphics. Luckily the work around command still works fine for me so it's not a major issue, but it's still gotten worse from what I can tell.
Indeed - the issue was previously (read: prior to S9) an annoyance that popped up occasionally if I played for hours on end, now it happens on a regular basis.
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
Also confirming that this is now far worse that before. With my new build 64 bit rig it was very mild when it happened and took an age to rear its ugly head.
Yesterday I had the missing icons and whiteouts after only 30 mins.
Ive also now got missing weapon effects in busy areas.
Looks like we have more newcomers to this bug. They're all up in the graphics subforum because, well, it's a graphics problem. Anyway, spread the word about the temp fix command if you see 'em.
Nice to find a fix for this, and yeah it's happening vastly more often now. My guess is though that S9 just added more textures in some places compared to before, (or is otherwise requiring more texture memory), and that's driving the frequency rather than the underlying bug getting any worse. Hope a proper fix comes soon.
I was in one of the new Undine STf's (the one with the columns) and the textures started bugging as the mission started, good heavens, it looked like I was either on acid or watching the sequel to the Beatles film "Yellow Submarine"
Most distressing to have your mouse pointer disappear during a mission with others.
Edit to add: I had only experienced the missing Solanae ship textures (which were fixed) and the missing upper pylon texture on that Cheyenne ship variant (which had NOT been fixed) previous to season 9.

Still, good thing we've got the workaround. I think I would have given up by now without it.
