you do realise that the base investment in doffs is about 100M+ and that the components for each console are about 1M each? you then have an about 25% chance to get a purple console. that one is randomly selected from *all* possible consoles, giving less then about 10% chance to get one that is worth that much. with about 10-15% more that at least make their cost back.
edit:/ that is about 2% chance to get something useful
If you expect that these consoles will get cheaper with the fleet consoles you are seriously mistaken. They will not get cheaper, just supply will vanish, because people will stop making them, since they won't be worth it anymore.
the current prices are ENTIRELY JUSTIFIED, because it is so bloody hard to get them to begin with.
Investing in doff's isn't really needed as you can get them from doff missions. The same goes with all the required ingredients to make the console in the first place. Now as for the odds of getting a tac console I won't argue that is it most definitely pathetically low, which is why I have stated before that they should indeed be a loot drop from somewhere also!

Wrong here. The optimal console crafting doffs come from lock boxes. Most of the next best alternative (unless you get really lucky with a Bajoran) are obtained by reassigning blue doffs and paying mad dil at SFA (it's still playing the lottery). Otherwise, good luck crafting consoles.

Who says you need optimal doff's even a 1% chance at a crit is still achievable, so no you really don't have to invest to make them.
I'd very much like to know how you make a few hundred thousand dollars in a few hours or even a day!
Sorry for the double post but I'm on a tablet. You can farm Ker'rat or play the foundry's Admiral Bobo Goes to War. Sell loot in Exchange if worth do to so, sell the rest to ESD vendors. You could farm refugees for purples every 48 hours. A VR Technician nets plenty of EC.
Investing 100 mil EC in DOFF's for creating MK XII consoles is a long term investment paid off over time. Once it is paid off every console sold is pure profit because all the mats to make them can be obtained free. Using the initial investment as an excuse for price just proves greed as the underlying factor.
Next, price comparison between blue and purple tac and purple sci/engi consoles verses tac. Huge differance. More proof that selling purples for 20+ million EC is greed.
Only thing left is rarity and that you can just plain and simply admit to being greedy because it is the only valid excuse for the prices. Yet it is still greed but a greed that can be excused because it is an honest greed.
Now all the people that make them, IF the new tac consoles are indeed better than the MK XII purple. Well you just have to find another way to rook your fellow players, but nobody is going to ever give you greedy people an ounce of sympathy and all the crying about the "difficulty" in making them just makes everyone else dislike you greedy people even less and hope that your market is gone with S8.

i guess accx3 weps that drop from stf loot is also just GREED right? nothing to do with rng? notthing to do with it being THE BEST? nothing to do with supply and demand? yeaaaa

Reading comprehension not a strong suit for you is it? Let me explain it for you. Yes it is greed but the prices are fine being high because they are the most rare and desired. Comprehension sink in yet?

Those stating that it costs a lot to turn out purple tacs are, exaggerating a tad, imo.
I've not spent 1 EC (at least in the process of) turning out at least 2 purple disruptors, some phasers, and a shield gen plus many more.
I've got a few purple doffs with just one good trait from other means without the intention of using them for crafting. Just by doffing, playing the game or getting them from doff packs by accident.
3x 1 crit trait and 2x purples with no crit traits gets me in the 23% crit range. Paying crazy EC amounts for an extra few percent points is just silly.
Simply putting in purple doffs with no traits at all gives way more than 1% chance I'd think.
Do dil mining every couple days for the traces (and dil of course). Doff every day as well for traces plus the rare commodities for NADORC.
When NADORC is up, get my 3 toons to grab it. Move artefacts over to my main toon and craft away. No ongoing EC costs involved. If I get a dud, no loss. If a purple, pure profit or new gear for me.
Sure I don't turn out a console each day, and 'only' 23% crit rate, but I'm in no rush either.
Crafting for me is playing the long game. Work some extra things into your routine each day and it doesn't have to cost anything. And occasionally you get a nice surprise.
If pumping them out full time is your aim then you'll need to pay the price accordingly. For the doffs to make your heavy investment give better ROI and for the commodities and traces you likely cant farm enough of to feed into it.
Not large amounts of EC... It requires ALOT of grinding. And they loot capped the foundry... The most you can make is a few hundred thousand EC per day and that is with 2-3 hours of playtime... I don't know about everyone else but I have a life outside of STO. Games shouldn't be harder than real life...
I can easily make 3-4 million ec in that timeframe, just by doing foundry missions on alts and making sure I cap out my dilithium and trade it in for zen (for keys). I don't do it every day, because (as you say), there are other things to do in my life.

Those few extra % points change the chances from 1/4 to about 1/3. Don't dismiss the few % points that easily.
So if you were to have only one tactical console slot (like on my Cruiser Refit) would you be better off with one of the energy type fleet consoles or a traditional very rare MK XII energy type console?
I currently have a energy type very rare MK XI console on my ship, just wondering if there is any advantage to upgrading to either of the above consoles and if so which one.

I'd suggest sticking with current energy type consoles. If not heavily specced into crits and other tac skills, "pressure" dps will work better and more consistently in the longer run.
I'm guessing this might be the case for engineers and sci captains in builds with lt tac boff only and not much of the tac oriented captain skills specced into.
Of course I could be wrong. No one has testing data for proper comparisons yet afaik.
I thought I would pop in and make you aware of some improvements we'll be making to the Spire's Tactical consoles due to player feedback. Here are the patch notes that will hit Tribble sometime in the near future:
Tactical Consoles
-Improved the damage type (Disruptor, Phaser, Chroniton, etc.) bonus on Vulnerability Exploiter and Vulnerability Locator Mk XII fleet consoles from 25.5% to 31.9%.
-Improved the weapon type (Torpedo, Beam, Cannon and Mines) bonus on Vulnerability Exploiter and Vulnerability Locator Mk XII fleet consoles from 22.3% to 27.9%.
These changes were made to make these consoles closer in potency to those found in the Embassy and Dilithium Mine.

Well done, you have now officially killed off console crafting - consoles, strange/powered artefacts will now crash and the Doffs associated with them will crash also
If there bound on pickup i.e not sellable then it might not effect the 30% consoles on holodeck now. If they are sellable then yeah the 30% consoles for 30 mill a pop will crash and ruin the economy i.e no way now really to make millions easy enough well RNG not counting when doing fab console missions accross a few toons.
cptskeeteruk: They'll be bound, but it still won't matter, since the demand for the non-fleet versions will plummet once a better product is available for less and easier effort.

1% vs 24% or greater is a BIG difference. Plus you get 50% chance of blue. Disruptor tac mk Xii blue sell for a good amount.
At 1% crit, you're throwing EC down the pit. I'm just glad I farmed my console builders pre season 6.

Not if all the needed stuff to develop a console is free and simply requires grind to get.
