By the way, anyone have any errant tweets, posts or other on the stats?

I assume they are going to bastardize it like they did to the Scimitar. It's going to come with flashy equipment and everyone thinks it's going to be good, but just like every large ship in this game, they're going to nerf it until it bleeds. The only good ships they release are Escorts and maybe a Science Vessel every now and again.
"the Captain feels that Starfleet's mission has always been one of peace."
A federation battlecruiser is the very definition of an oxymoron.
Since the Federation is in 2 wars, with more dangling on the horizon, the idea of peace seems pointless.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Looks a fair bit like the Aventine-class Vesta variant, so I'm guessing it'll have a hangar and be able to take cannons.
As far as leaks, the Cloak console on Tribble server is listing Battlecruiser and Fleet Battlecruiser on its requirements to equip list.
BranFlakes has already stated no hanger.

It looks a lot like a scrunched up Regent. Still not a huge fan of the forward-swept pylons. My guess is something to finally unseat the Excelcior. Think smallish cruiser.
I am afraid this new Cruiser will make so many other Federation Cruisers obsolete including the Galaxy X
If I had a dollar for every time someone thinks X is obsolete because of Y in this game.

Guessing this will be a cruiser, with a tactical boff layout and the ability to load cannons. Basically Cryptics way to address peoples claims that the game is just 'Escort Online'.
I can't really see what else they can do with a new cruiser to make people want to buy it other than adding cannons to be honest. Plus, KDF battle cruisers can use cannons, so makes sence using this specific designation will mean the same.
Looks wise, seems ok, I'd hazard a guess and say that the much asked for Typhoon could be a skin for this Avenger class? It has a pretty similar profile, so maybe a possability?
Overall, doesn't look bad, I just really really really hope that the KDF and IRW get a similar counterpart ship, since the Federation has an overwealming choice of ships already now to the point that I'd classify some as 'Trash ships', similar to Trash loot that is just there to populate the loot databases to make the high end loot look good.
Yes all Cruisers are obsolete, where's our temporal ship? Where's your version of the JHAS? Cruisers nerfed to all hell, we have no choice but to choose 8 beams or 7 beams and a wide angle torpedo. Beams are too weak for Cruisers to rely on.
So? To the vast majority of players who don't PvP it's just another meaningless toy. For example, I doubt I've used the cloak on my Defiant or Galaxy Dreadnought more then 3 times each over the last 3 years.

Well giving it a Cloak does make the Galaxy X less special regardless of how much some people actually use the Cloaking Device. It should not have the ability to use Cloak IMO.
If this really is the "Battle Cruiser" the cloak mentions, and the "Fleet battlecruiser", Does this mean it's actually going to be a standalone ship, Instead of a 3 pack?
Unless i'm being really dense, I'm pretty sure both my Vesta's and Oddys have been fleet quality... (and i assume is the trend for something you need to shell out ?40 for!)

Apparently their is a fleet version and with that being the case it will be a stand alone ship.
Hmmm - like the look of it. The style of the Aventine in terms of the secondary hull is cool (it's something that has grown on me over time).
It should have:
- tac positions, comm and lt. comm
- 4/5 tac consoles for reg/fleet variants
- a sci lt. com slot. seriously.
- no fighters (thankfully confirmed)
- be able to use cannons (although frankly beam array's are fine in the right hands).
The first 2 points alone would make it viable.
Now for my obligatory rank about people who whine about cruisers:
[RANT]
To me this is all funny. I don't think we're playing the same game.
In PvE:
1.) Cruisers have little difficulty in breaking 10K dps with a decent captain and build.
2.) Cruisers can beat NWS.
3.) Escorts are prefered because they're easier to use. And easier to grind with.
oh, and for laughs:
4.) Rainbow cruisers can successfully run elite stfs.
In PvP:
1.) All preconceived notions about what is best/better routinely gets changed about every 6 months with revisions to abilities and powers.
2.) Aux2Bat builds on cruisers are damn fun to play.
Lastly as a mixture of PvP and PvE - I have a friend who with his cruiser routinely bests groups of 'superior cloak enhanced klingon/romulan ultrabadmofo's'. Now I don't have his knack for shield manipulation and piloting, but watching him run unopposed at 4 to 1 odds against makes me very proud to be in the same fleet.
"CruiserS suck" is the cry of the inexperienced and unwilling to learn. Any ship build can be dangerous in the hands of a capable captain.
Need more proof that a captain counts more than the build? - watch the herds of noobs flying their expensive scimi's while delivering a deadly 1200 dps volley of bad gas and foul language. You know what I am talking about.
What's my favourite cruiser ATM? An Oddy Plasma Tank, run by a blind narcoleptic engineering captain that routinely gets first place in those STF's/CCE's that count such things.

No, no, and no. Cruisers and battlecruisers shouldn't have shoehorned escort BOFF/console setups. It might be able to use dual cannons though, but if you want ship classes to have balance, you should take a look at the functions of their own elements instead of wanting them to have elements of overused TRIBBLE.

I agree; my comments were musings for an effective combat vessel with significant stamina.
Since 100% of our missions involve exploring strange new worlds, and seeking out new life, why would we possibly want a serious combat oriented vessel?
If Cryptic are going to follow with the Avenger's roots, then it's likely going to be a 3-pack Cruiser with a sensor cloak, and some combination of: self-replicating ablative armour, self-replicating torpedoes, or a second warp core.
It would likely be a 3-pack with the sub-classes of Avenger, Dauntless, and Gettysburg.
Now, if I were to guess, a sensor cloak would not be a traditional cloak, but could possibly make the ship impossible or very difficult to target by enemies for a short period of time while still staying visible.
Self-replicating ablative armour would hopefully not be an exact copy of the Intrepid Retrofit armour, which I find to be really only useful as an "oh $*** I'm going to die!" power, and it would feel like a power cop-out for something that comes in a 3-pack. Instead, I would rather imagine something closer to how Romulan Quantum Absorption works (a second layer of hull) without the boost to shields, but likely with a bit more HP or resistance.
Self-replicating torpedoes could either be a 3 minute timer massive barrage of torps, or what I think might be more creative, but less flashy, as a console power that drastically shortens torpedo cooldown times for a short period, allowing you to potentially use something like Tricobalt torpedoes as quickly as Quantums or Photons for a short time, and for Quantums and Photons, being like a temporary free High Yield. I'm thinking I'll be very wrong on this one, but it would be an interesting mechanic. There's also the possibility that this could end up being a torpedo weapon on its own, being possibly like a heavier, narrower version of the Ferengi missile launcher, or basically a faster loading Photon Torpedo launcher with damage normalized down slightly (but still reasonably high) to make up for the faster loading time.
A second warp core is probably the most likely thing to come with this ship class, now that warp cores are a thing in this game. That in itself is a pretty big deal for a Cruiser and its naturally high power settings, but far from game breaking.
If it's a 3-ship (and thus 3-console) set, then I expect that there'll be some set bonuses. If Cryptic really wanted to get crazy, the original Avenger supports saucer separation, so that could be one of the regular consoles, pushing something like the potentially very powerful sensor cloak to be a 3-piece bonus. The 2-piece bonus is more likely to be a passive boost of some kind, though to what is anybody's guess. Mine would probably be something warp power related, whether that be an overall boost, efficiency, or perhaps more likely, faster transfer rates.
As for Bridge Officer layout, I suspect this to be similar to an Assault Cruiser's layout, though possibly trading the ensign tac spot for the lieutenant eng spot. Not sure whether it would have a universal spot, but if the layout is much like the Assault Cruiser anyway, I would probably use it for a sci officer anyway for added shield/hull healing.
Other stats would likely land it somewhere akin to an Assault Cruiser and an Advanced Heavy (between a Regent and an Excelsior).
Of course, this is all speculation, but I could definitely see something like the above. If this is going to be a 3-ship set, this will mark the first time where a class of ship is going to have multiple 3-ship sets. I also do not expect to have near carbon copies for Klingons or Romulans, as it wouldn't make much sense. Where it was easy to translate the Temporal Science ships and the Veteran ships across all 3 factions, the Avenger would be more faction specific. Hopefully Cryptic will give the Klingons some ship love next, though.

You seem to still be on the mindset of wanting to give ships aspects of things that are already 'good' instead of wanting to make the aspects of other ships of that type just as good.
And IMO, why can't a heavy-engineering vessel be combat-oriented?
As long as its got a reasonable Bridge officer layout, I might give it a shot. I've been using my oddy but mostly my Llaihr destroyer, and its time to get back to Federation starships.
"..and like children playing after sunset, we were surrounded by darkness." -Ruri Hoshino
So far, I'm thinking of this more as an Odyssey variant vessel. It has - aside from the forward-swept pylons - a remarquable resemblance to the second-place winner vessel.

I disagree with this statement, I melt things almost as fast with my cruiser as I do with my single target escort without Aux2Batt if not faster.
I know some will say "Well you're doing your escort wrong", I don't care, I still demolish stuff with it, I just enjoy the cruiser more.
About the new cruiser, if the stats are epic I might look into grinding for it, if it's anything like the Oddy or Regent I'm not so sure.
Apparently their is a fleet version and with that being the case it will be a stand alone ship.
SShhhhhhh !!!
You're letting out an incredible secret.

Sure, can't let the KDF have a leg up anywhere, now can we? /eyeroll
Isn't there already an Avenger-class? I thought that was a variant of the Star Cruiser.
