The shield mod killed it for me, I don't think cannons will work on it and the cloak for a console isn't worth it. The VATA is neat, but even that thing might not pan out if it is destructible with FAW or warp plasma.
I was all excited, now i am decited. Time to get a new bottle of whiskey and grind some more nukara marks!
PvE Jem'Hadar motto:Participation Ribbonsare life.
good god, how did a 1.0/1.1 shield mod is a horrible deal breaker
9 turn rate, EPtE, with 3 or 4 turn consoles, will give it near 40 turn rate at all times. this thing will have no trouble useing cannons
Its not a bad thing, but it is not worth zen over what i already have. Power creep is kind of inevitable, who will buy something that is the same as what they already have? This is going to have 3 cruiser commands over 4 of the others, and who knows how BCs will fit into the hull slots they add down the road. I am not saying it is bad over a hole in my head, but compared to the fleet excel, AC or oddy set it isn't a good deal for a couple thousand zen.
If you take my whole statement i said don't want a cruiser with cannons, i don't see them as that useful in pvp. I feel the shield modifier was sacrificed for this thing to have cannons and that is unfortunate and thus a deal breaker for what I want, wish there was customization such as if you mount cannons you lose .1 shield mod or something, but alas it is not that way. To use the eng slots for turn rate over universal consoles is silly too because tac will be for weapons and sci will be for shield gens. Other BCs have inate cloak, not console cloak too, one more console slot to give up.
PvE Jem'Hadar motto:Participation Ribbonsare life.
i use DHC on my dread and you think this things will not be fit for cannons?
Honestly no, I don't like cruisers with DHC, I will accept that it could be my play style but I want tac consoles and sci consoles, eng consoles get the Unis, a resist and a sif. The DD will be further hampered by only getting 2 cruiser commands assuming they turn out to be worth anything.
PvE Jem'Hadar motto:Participation Ribbonsare life.
So this is what I was thinking for my pve maybe pvp setup.
Three DHCs and 2 beams up front and 3 beams in the back.
My theory is, 3 DHCs are usually good enough for my escorts and 5 beams is usually good enough for broadsiding and FAW spam clearing.
I'm thinking of using the omega engine and deflector for the tetryon glider bonus and running DEM to make it a pressure build.
for my tac stations I'm thinking of:
TT1, CRF, APO for pvp or APB for pve
BFAW1
I'll be using AtB
I'm just having trouble thinking of my engineering stations...
Any thoughts?
First recommendation. Fly a fleet excelsior first before buying this build. Its about the same with more tankability imo and lends itself better to auxtobat.
let's assume you go with the engi stations for auxtobat.
your options:
ensign engi: eptw, epts, epte, et1.
Lt: 2 copies of aux to bat 1
Ltc: rsp2
Cmd: Dem 3
fiddle around with it and see how much tankiness vs dpsness you need
as an aside for myself, with the drop in shield modifier, there really is not reason for me to drop my fleet excel for it even if there is a 1 point increase in turnrate (i use single cannons anyway). methinks the option to equip a cloaking device is a step in the wrong direction build wise rather than maximizing the ships strengths.

I wonder if you will get grilled for saying it is not that snazzy of a ship too?!? I just want an "I win" ship!

As for the Cloak...could see folks using it for along the same lines as folks do on the Dreadnought - only in this case, for the 5x fore weapon slots.
For me personally, the BOFF layout would be enough reason to take it over the Fleet Excelsior (I'm not a fan of forced 3x Career BOFF slots...really wish the En on Excelsior was Uni). Now, the Fleet Imperial/Regent/Sovereign on the other hand - well - that's the curious one, imho - eh? Obviously if you want to run DHCs...simple...otherwise, there's already been subject of debate about it.

+2 Turn
+20 Inertia
That's the big difference (apart from the DHCs). Good inertia numbers means you dont suffer from powersliding so much, which is important with accelerated speeds from EPtE/APO/AtD
If broadsiding you're basically paying out 2500 zen for a regent that turns slightly better.
Not worth it really.
That's where I believe jk brought up the increase in damage on the approach even if you're beaming. Cause you'll be firing 5 beams on the approach instead of 4. Course, that led me to thinking that also means you've only got 3 beams for the guy sitting on your butt...
Yep, all sorts of fun discussions about the ship that none of us have flown yet, heh.
In the end though, yeah - obviously depending on what you're looking to do - different ships are going to be better at doing it. If what you're doing is better with a ship you've already got, then you're not going to want to buy a ship that you don't feel is going to be as good at it.
I keep looking at it and thinking Torp Cruiser...lol...but I'm weird that way...I'm not a DHC guy in the least (I'm not enough of a pilot for 45 arcs and generally speaking, I've gotten nauseous trying to maintain those arcs most of the time) but give me a 90 arc and torps...I'm fine.
I've posted like 3-4 torp builds for the Avenger that I've deleted, because I didn't want to be responsible for somebody thinking that it was a mainstream/suggested type of build.
5 fore slots though...3x Type-A w/ 3x PWO DOFFs and room for Type-B/C with longer CDs that are being reduced by the 3x Type-A.
Would have to go Rom to do it with a Scim and the Charal can't AtB...
...it's a pretty tempting ship for a flaky player like me.
You know what? I think I will too. And for added lulz I am naming my Avenger the USS Galaxy X Retrofit (complete with cannons and a BO DBB to mimic the lance)

Cannon specced, she hits like a truck. But its hard to stay on target due to her turn. She is semi viable but i think shes going to end up being another beamboat for PvP
She is tough as nails though and hard to bring down.
Edit: I kept my promise (she is a backup/"just wanted to own it" ship so you wont see her that often over my FAE on Rylana) her name is the USS Galaxy-X Refit
I need to level up a new fed toon now and put an avenger on it. All my other level 50 feds are roms... uggh

well, its the second best non escort, second only to the scim. with 5 forward escort weapons, its doing more damage then most escorts too. monster ship, absolutely awesome.

The Fed K'tinga you've always dreamed about, eh?
If you feel Keel'el's effect is well designed, please, for your own safety, be very careful around shallow pools of water.
its exactly what i wanted the next c store kdf cruiser to be. but now, theres almost no reason to log onto my kdf with this thing being about 40% better then the ktinga, vorcha, kamarang and neghvar. my battlecruiser kdf character was forced to succumb to the evuls of lockboxes and lobi by getting a monbosh when it came out, because it was 20% better then any kdf cruiser. compared to the monbosh, i lose TB capability, but gain a significant amount of extra damage dealing.
bought it, set it up, filled it out, and took it into pvp several times, were it got all the nukes and focus fire there was to have, people even stopped shooting at scimitars to target it lol.
it is definitely the second best non escort in game, second only to the scimitar. equipped with lots of turn consoles and escort weapons, its actually outgunning escorts too, a 5th forward weapon is extremely beneficial.
putting aside the debate of weather its ugly or not, the ship model oozes quality, it is extreamly highly detailed and its clear the extra mile was put into it. when you enter red alert, all the windows get a sheet of armor deployed over them, and same for half the buzzard collectors and partially over the warp grills as well.
the torp thing is pretty damn powerful from what ive seen, and of course the command auras are iceing on the cake. the are super easy to swap on the fly, when im redy to alpha i hit the energy drane res, then switch to the manoverability in between. and of course some extra shield res is always great when you come under heavy fire. its 1 more thing to keep track of though, and till i get used to it im libel to forget to activate and swap from time to time.
i had a bit of an issue with the turn rate aura though. just +3 turn is quite low for any sort of boost, but aside from that this aura also granted my ship an additional +100 inertia score wile it was active, giving me 150 inertia! there was 0 sliding when it is active, not sure if that applies to allies too. if this is a bug i say dont remove it, just include it in the description, its rather harmless, it just changes the turning character of the ship a bit
i rate this 10/10, and it would be 11/10 if its design was more soft and curved like the intrepid, galaxy, defiant akira and odyssey. the overly angled look is not an improved style over that
