Just to clarify if you come in with your fleets leet 5 man premi, expect members to be moved around between teams after the first match should teams require balancing for even fun matches :)

Exactly... really I would prefer no one show up thinking a fight in TD will ever feature there standard 5 man premade to begin with. It is really contrary to the idea. We all understand a 5 man premade that has played together awhile should do better then 5 random guys coming together in any channel. If the match ends up fair its only because its a weak 5 man premade.

However 5 guys from X fleet coming in and getting what we are doing and mixing it up for a few matches are going to have a lot more fun. I love playing with friends as well.... but I got to say I don't mind shooting at them. I am still playing with them if they are on the opposite team... in fact, in many ways its more fun. Seeing a friend do something fantastic that saves someone or ends someone, and trying to stop that one way or another is damn fun.

Some of the best TD matches I have had, I have had friends on both sides... and the next match we often end up mixed around again.

I know there is still a small handful of mainly premade style players that have either not tried a TD style match, or have perhaps have done 1 or mabey 2... I hope those players still jump in when we have an evening going... not every match is a classic... still I would say many are darn close when everyone comes with the right attitude. :)

Joined channel late last night. Looking forward to a match. Thanks for setting up this channel, sounds great.

The game style takes a bit of work to setup... and I know some nights its just quite. I hope you get some great matches soon. Thanks for joining.

There is a core of Vet players that have been setting up matches so far... just a reminder to people in TD though... nothing happens there unless we start it.

So far we have been starting matches like a PvE grouping channel.

LF9M 5x5 Cracked Plannet TD rules X up

Something like that... start a challange match... and when you have the right number of player to start your 5v5 or 3v3 or 4v4 ect.... the match needs to be balanced.

Balance is subjective but the idea is to get both sides as even as possible in terms of spike / Sci / Healing... ect.

We have a TS provided by some good friends of the channel... this can help the process of declaring Captain and Ship types ect... Text works, it just takes longer as sorting out who is who can be a bit of work.

Often after one match people will be willing to play a few more and balancing second and third matches gets easier.

So to everyone in the channel.... feel free to fire up your own matches. Its more work then just Qing up, it is however a ton more rewarding.

    Random thought:

Have you considered talking to hilbert and seeing if he might be willing to set up a Tylder Durden leaderboard?

Would be kind of interesting if only matches from TD counted towards this specific leaderboard as it would remove issues such as pugstomping matches, or choosing best performances, etc.

Not to replace his current leaderboard mind you, but it might present an interesting and very different set of data compared to what he is currently receiving.

That is an interesting thought... not sure how he would figure out what matches where which though... unless he setup a different client... or added a way for the client to be turned on to TD mode... would likely end up relying a lot on players being honest. Then again that's true now... if you are having a bad match now you can turn off his client and delete the log. lmao :)

Well, I suppose a few dedicated loggers from TD could be designated to submit matches but honor system should, *hopefully* be enough.

The main point would be that he could see data based on random, but organized matches that are attempting to be balanced vs. all of the variables inherent in the pug queue matches he has a leaderboard set up to do now.

Yes I agree it could work... I know when I saw what he was trying to do... which is really really cool and makes Cryptic look like fools btw. One of the first things I thought was oh no I hope this doesn't mean a handful of Experienced PvPers won't want to fight in TD as dying 4-5 times a match is going to effect there scoreboard numbers. :)

Hah, I'm sure there would be some of that.

I think that's partly what inspired my idea, this way it would be very fair to them even when they get killed since everyone is getting killed in TD matches - so it should even out and be demonstrated on the leaderboard.

As opposed to them having to compare themselves in a free for all vs. anyone who might submit matches from some random pugstomp.

I'd also hope it would encourage more TD matches, as there would be a "goal" and relevant talking point.

Although TBH due to my severely limited playtime I'm embarrassed to admit I haven't had the chance to hop into a TD match yet. :o

Ya a few engis in the mix are fun. If you are coming in to do some healing or some presure you don't get overshadowed by the uber efficient dual sci ship healing combos some teams run or the massive heal saturation of most premades that make presure so pointless.

The games meta isn't really all that well balanced for high end premade play I find right now. Don't get me wrong that super team min maxing element can be fun as well... but the way things are right now there isn't much need to play an engi for instance. Of course in a TD match where things are likely going to be a bit more open and less of the strict adherence to the pinnacle of the Perfect sci/spike combos we see in most premades. Well played engi has a great role to fill... likely the hardest class to make shine still, but glad to hear some of the engi lovers are having fun again. :)

Good fights out of this channel tonight.

Also, somebody said "Is somebody Hilberting this?" which made me think: 1. Hilbert is now a verb. 2. The scene where they're gonna cut off Tyler's balls and the one guy says "Is somebody timing this?"

Husanak, you back or what? I miss shooting you down :P

Zenith does a good job of mixing it up. Once we familiarise ourselves with participants a lot more, I'm sure it will only get better and better.

Team comms is provided as well for those who choose.

Might be a good place to make numbers up when we do inter fleet PvP if allowed.....

Hi, I was searching for pvp channels tonight on sto and I didnt find anything at all, except opvp. Who is tyler durden? is this some kind of exclusive in-club? I guess I just cant make the connection between the name of a fictional character from a 15 year old cult classic film, and player vs player matches in Star Trek online.

Oh wait, I suppose I couldnt even find this channel. - This is an opvp overflow isnt it? - Is there a Single Member in this channel that isnt a member of OPVP? What is the point?

Name it something that can be found and accessed by people who arent in OPVP and it will become something special and different then OPVP. Until then, its just an OPVP clone, populated by opvp'ers, who might as well just stay in opvp for all the difference it makes.

You have obviously never been around when we are running matches... no it is not an opvp clone... no it is not redundant.

Organizing anything in Opvp frankly is a bit of a joke... so much cross talk its not even funny.

Opvp is fine for what it is.

TD is not EGO... it is not for Premade Fleet matches... It is not for Teams to form up and go infect the ques.

It is for people who are willing to to take a little more time and create matches with the intention of in fact having some actual honest good pvp. Most matches I have been involved in have ended with scores like 15 14... 15 14 ... 15 13. Rarely are they not that close... and people in fact have a good time shooting at as well as together with friends. I know from friends that matches go on when I'm not around and when they do everyone involved becomes a believer in the channel.

Once you have a chance to play in a TD match you will get it... until then you are simply not informed.

As far as naming it something else... no I won't name it a Opvp clone name... sorry RandomOpvp is out... PvP XYXYX is OUT.

The people that find the channel pass it on... we are not shooting to have 3000 people subbed that do nothing but squabble all day. Where around 200 members now and things are fine thanks. :)

PS the character is from the 1996 Chuck Palahniuk book titled fight club... and ya the 1999 movie was a good adaptation. ;)

I joined the channel the other day, and recommended it to a fleet mate who was trying out PvP but feeling a bit outclassed in the public queues. Whenever I've clicked over to see what you're up to though, I haven't seen anything happening. Bad timing I guess, or maybe people were busy over the holiday weekend (I just sat around and ground Omega marks and worked on my gear for 3 days :P). Is there a certain time of day when the TDers are more likely to be forming matches?

This channel is great, losing a match 13-6 and won it 15-13, amazing teamwork and to claw a victory out of the jaws of defeat, epic really, and the best thing, no cheese.

+1 To Zenith making up teams

As you are now a TDer, you have the power to form matches!

Sometimes it just takes a bit of initiative to get the ball rolling. ;)

To my knowledge it is currently a publicly open channel.

The channel is public and all are free to join.

    /channel_join Tyler Durden

That should do it... you can also go into your chat settings and type the Channel name into the join window.

As Razor pointed out Its not a name that is likely to gain us 100s of people looking to loose matches for Dilihtium. (funny story first few days of the channel I had a few PMs from people asking me if it was a D farming PvP channel... didn't even know those existed before).

As for matches not always going on... yes its true the channel is quite for large portions of the day. Starting TD matches takes some work... you can't just que up. You have to in fact start them up.

    LF9M 5x5 Cracked X

Something to that effect needs to be used just as if it was a STF PvE Channel. Someone needs to start a match, invite... and after everyone is in it is likely best if one person asks for Ship Types / Captain types... and then starts moving people around.

I know its a lot more work then just quing up... or even forming 5 mans in Opvp to que up.... but the reward is worth it.

We have had a handful of very dedicated people the first few weeks. Zenith has been the channels biggest booster so far... I know he starts matches most nights he isn't on till what would be pretty late in North America though... everyone is free of course to start matches.

Sometimes it will be quite that is to be expected though we are around the 200 member mark now... please use Opvp as well to announce a match starting up if the channel isn't busy enough to grab 10 people. Just let them know its a TD match.

LF5M 5x5 Cracked TD Match X ...... something like that. I know many people have joined TD after being invited from Opvp for a match. (just a note though if you ask for people in Opvp careful not to invite people Xing up for Pug stompings.... lol)

Neither did I, not surprised though. Our fleet admirals find the practice to be in bad taste, so I've steered clear of it. When I try to get my fleet up for PvP, I use the dilithium rewards to bait them in, but it's clear that we're there to fight and have fun, not farm.

I was hesitant to try and initiate matches myself because I wanted to see how the "balancing" was handled first. I guess if it doesn't matter that it's really random because I'm just throwing people wherever without much informed consideration, that would be fine then.

Ya free to try and start something up.... there is also no rule that every game has to be 5v5 if you only have enough for a 3v3 go for it. ;)

For balancing you will find once you have a few people in the match people mostly know what to move around as well. Mostly people have a good idea how to balance things out.

In general though... try not to load one side with more Science then the other side... try to balance out any healing you may have... as well as any hammer.... try not to make it a escort vs sci ship match. ;)

What also tends to happen is a match might be a bit lopsided and end in a 15 6 or something... however if everyone is up for another round... you can move 1-2 people around after the first match and get a much better round the second go.

Had four really fun and well balanced TD matches over the weekend put together by a couple guys of that did roll calls, balanced teams well, and put out a fair rule set. I was happy to wait the 5-10 minutes it took to put them together.
Also had a couple lousy TD matches where the organizer had no desire to balance that ended in total stomps. This organizer went as far as kicking me from a match startup Q for politely asking that we please balance teams. Needless to say I won't be joining his matches in the future.
Overall though, I'm stoked to have the TD channel, and it, plus the Hilbert board have been great motivation to get me PvP'ing more.

Niiiiice!I think I know who you speak of lol.

On another note, it would be kind of interesting to go into these matches will "self-sufficient" solo builds, but team together. As in no direct buffing/healing others but yourself :P Just a thought for some future matches
