I agree with OP. Reputation should be account-bound. It took months to earn t5 for Romulan and Omega rep on my main character, I don't see any reason why I have to repeat the grind. It's disheartening.
Id love to see this, infact make everything 'Account' , doing any of these grinds makes me not want to play, and leaving a character that has many lockbox ships makes not want to start another character.

After T5'n my second character I was so totally burned out I just stopped logging in for 2 months. There should be some sort of short cut to maxing rep after you've done it once on you're account. A high cost project, something, anything but spending a month and a half grinding marks and wasting time for it to complete. Grinding out marks in STF's is the least exciting thing to do in life, I'd much rather watch paint dry then be forced to do STF's with a team of bad feds that can't be bothered to come to the forums, read a thread or two on how to fit a ship for PvE (because feds have a lower IQ and can't figure it out on their own I guess) and be useful in an STF. And for the love of god... if you're a tac DON'T FLY A FED CRUISER!
Here's what I'd like: when you reach T5 on a reputation, you get to run one last project, which changes everything you buy thenceforth to be bind-to-account-on-pickup instead of simply bind-on-pickup.
If you want the passive traits on another character, you'll still have to actually level the rep system. But for weapons, ship and ground equipment, finishing the rep on one will let you shop for all.
I'd love to see Bind to Character replaced by Bind to Account. I think that would be an easy solution.
That way, you can do the rep grind on all your alts, if that's your bag. But you also have the option to just grind it once and then purchase goods for your alts.
It would also help me spend my Mining Claims, and Lobi Crystals on different characters
i propose that they eliminate the project timers and simply add a contribute all button to each individual input. it's all about streamlining. either way, youre still doing the grind, but each character progresses at a rate that they can establish themselves.
that said, you could also add the equipment drops back to their respective stfs. it would force players who want to short cut the system have to play all the content to receive a chance to get what they want while still ensuring that they have the reputation system grind to fall back on for the drops they don't get.
it's really all about viable options. this way you cater to both extremes, while focusing on the average player.

tbh, the only thing that really kills the system, are the timers. I would gladly grind the necessary stuff for it, if it means, that I can bring up a viable character in a week, if I chose to, and not wait around for a month to get the best gear.
I understand that it is there so people log in to play daily, but the system punishes those, who would actually log in every day anyway, to play multiple chars. just make it so, that if you have unlocked it on one character, let the other characters have some advantage (like no timers, or no xp collecting at all, or you could share the equipment from other chars, but the passives are still bound to char, so you would have to grind...)
Well, IF they ever did make Reputation account-bound, it would work, seeing as you would still have to choose your reputation powers with each character once they reach the appropriate level to use them. I would love to see them make it account-wide, myself.
Not sure if I have posted in this thread or not but my opinion is the same and that is indeed make it account bound with the quickness.I tried so very hard to keep working on it for my other characters and almost burned out with the attempt. Maybe thats a poor reason but then again there isnt much reward for doing it. My little nephew thought it would be a good idea to by me some romulan cannons he didnt realize until I nearly blew a gasket that what I already had was better worst thing is the damn things are BoP...

I completely agree the rep system should be account bound like most of you am tired of grinding especially ones that take huge amounts of time. Quite a few of you have multiple toons so I share your issues with the notion of grinding the rep system for each of them not fun .
The completion times for the projects are way too long to be honest since it doesn't serve any game play purpose other than to make it tedious and boring . Plus most of us have lives like work, family etc so grinding the stuff you need for the rep projects is problably not at the top of the list if you pop into STO you want to have some fun and maybe hang out for a bit with fleeties.
That leads me on to my next point which is when will Cryptic understand that huge amounts of grind does not equal fun!!!! yes a bit of grind a bit however if your like me then you too will agree with that sentiment. I don't mind grinding the currencies for the gear which are way too expensive especially on the dill cost. Even that grind is also rather laborious and boring to say the least in my opinion lol.
Yeah i got to level 50 on my romulan. Now give me a break here. you are telling me I have to REGRIND the same BORING missions ALL OVER AGAIN to get good equipment?? I can understand EARNING the Passive abilities, but if I unlock something on my Normal character why can't i just send it to my other character? It's basically a store unlock. Not only that, the grind just gets plain BORING. It's not about time at this point, it's just boring and unnecessary.
If I worked my a$$ off on my main to spend all that DIL, all that time, all those marks, days and days, hours and hours of grinding. I have to do it again, to earn the same armor AGAIN on a different character. Give me a break.
Cryptic just does this so you have to EVENTUALLY trade in your Zen to DIL. Because the prices are INSANE for some of the equipment unlocks.
If you are worried about EC making, just make the unlocked equipment worth NOTHING so no one can make an EC profit off of it. You can't trade it or put it on the exchange anyway, so what the frig is the big deal?
Sorry, there is no way I am going through that grind all over again.
If they made Rep account wide, I might actually waste my time doing Nukara Rep.:P
That one just isnt friendly... I got bored of the Azura and Vault missions so I thought.. "hey i know i'll go to nukara and grind the hard missions" .. complete...
"15 marks and a 20 hour cooldown = "da TRIBBLE?"
then doing the mediums over and over and over was... "fun"

I really wish dev's would actually respond to us once in awhile, it makes the look more and MORE they don't care.
It's like honestly what is the point of the forums anymore. I have hardly seen a dev ever respond anymore, except to tell us there is maintenance it's pathetic. Yeah I am angry beyond belief.

Account wide rep should be a lifetime perk only.
that kind of a plus shouldnt be for freebs.
Being a Lifer i would not mind that one bit, and that is a great idea as a perk!

not subscriber perk. But lifetime perk.
Lifer or 600 day veteran.

I think the current thing is fine.
Though I think there could be more account-based stuff like unlocking remans for Remans
Let me guess, you have 1 or 2 characters?

reputation was account bound.
but i think it would be much better
if the Mark boxes was account bound
rather then rep being account bound.
and have the omega marks in a box
so people can choose between
Omega Marks or Borg Neural Processors
and have all the Mark boxes account bound.
