This lag is unbearable

skurfskurf Member Posts: 1,071 Arc User
Just the worst lag I've ever seen in this game. In a pvp I'm getting about 1 frame per 5 seconds. I start getting attacked...everything freezes, then when it resumes I've blown up. This is not fun. :(

You're not the only one bud, its horrible. I thought it was just me till I saw some other people commenting on it during my last match.

Seems it's not a local event, lots of people from all over the world in both NW and STO are getting the same lag.

    +1 here.
I actually came to try STO just because the lag in Neverwinter was unbearable. And voila, it's even worse here.

So, I set up a private Mine Trap run, filled with 20 people from the Accolades and a couple other global channels. When we started it, 1/4th of the people were disconnected from the game and could not log back in. The remaining players were getting 30+ seconds of lag, rubberbanding, and "server not responding" errors all throughout the match. Every single player in the match had problems.

Same here. Just watched an entire Mine Trap tank because of the most horrendous lag I have ever seen. As if not being able to move was bag enough, I was constantly being mapserved and put beneath the map. All 20 people had severe issues.

On Tuesday...ooooh, Branflakes I promise you the server will go Ka-Boom. >.>

I had framerate issues where my ship was jerking around, unable to turn

    Working find yesterday.
This morning, I had to exit the game several times in order to complete the mission.

Then, Cryptic launcher now fails to load
There seems to be a longer than normal time for it to connect to the server, so i am also guessing this is not a localised issue.

No lag when playing, but map transitions are wonky as hell (cannot leave maps, spawning in the ground, etc.). And it took a lot longer for the launcher to load and the game to load to the character select screen.

Cryptic look at all the server problems and come to some solution like either getting better engineers on your staff that dont let your games get in this state constantly, change your servers hardware or if your leasing a server farm change to a better host for your servers.

    I mean enough is enough.

Being that this is happening to ppl from different parts of the world would suggest that it is on Your End, not Ours, an the fact that both NW and STO are Both Lagging like crazy cements that idea even more. Not to mention that Other MMOs perform just fine, except NW and STO.

i did pick up lagg yesterday, it isnt as bad as some lag i have seen in the past on this game over the years. however i know it was on my end because i know what server side lag feels like and local lag, server side is when the game server freezes for a bit then resumes, if it is local your ship starts jumping about the same with your toon, in some cases it may look like server side lag but it is not when it starts and stops cutting out, however you see everything else going off as it should be most of the time.
    skurf wrote: »
Just the worst lag I've ever seen in this game. In a pvp I'm getting about 1 frame per 5 seconds. I start getting attacked...everything freezes, then when it resumes I've blown up. This is not fun. :(

from what the op describes, it reads like a graphics issue, dropping to 1fps during a highly graphical explosion like a grenade means your graphics card can not deal with the load, turn down the graphics in the options.

some people get confused between a frame rate issue and network latency.

    Try /maxfps 60

If it is a graphical issue I found STO to have a throttling issue where even when utilizing V-Sync, the game would max your graphic cards settings, allowing for an uncapped FPS max. Leading to hindered performance.

Here is mine, take not I am in the UK and on a high speed cable connection. All other games I play online play with no issues at all, this is the only game where I get serious issues from... Back in last Sept when you decided to update the server, because people were getting issues, before that happened I never lost a connection at all... So it is something you have done in that month, and we are all having to pay the price...

It really is a shame Branflakes, as you really are ruining a very good game, When you go live on the 21st, prepare for serious melt down.

Last night (Saturday 5/18) was nearly unplayable. Game "freezes", then catches up, only to freeze again. Not to mention fearing every map change (Server Not Responding). Was hoping this morning would be better, but it started again. Tried a Foundry mission, which was mostly OK, save for a couple of hiccups. Went to ground STF, got a little worse, with an out-right pause here and there. Then to a space STF which was getting close to last nights level of stop/start. Then I quit. Again.

Seems it's not a local event, lots of people from all over the world in both NW and STO are getting the same lag.

Saw it mentioned more than once, in both the STF channel and zone chat.

Probably a good thing I'm going to be mostly unavailable this week. Not going to like my first experience with LoR being utter frustration.

    -EDIT-

Added for giggles, figured I would try Neverwinter, since STO is a no-go. Got "Server Not Responding"/connection issues, and finally was kicked. Seems the server went down. Took ages just to find that out, as the forums for NW are running mind-blowingly slow.

Seems I just need to find something else to do other than play Cryptic's offerings.

This is intolerable. The problem is not in our ISP. It's in YOURS. Or is it a problem with the network infrastructure at all - it may be a problem with the philosophy of the way your system is built and it simply can't keep up with the demand. Either way, it's something you must address very soon, or you're going to start loosing customers.

Lag may not necessarily be a case of network latency, the server itself may just be overwhelmed.

I've noticed that there's been a large increase in the amount of rubber banding and lag over the past week. At the moment, the game is almost unplayable outside of DOFF missions and selling/buying on the Exchange. You may notice that the numbers in the Nettest are very low, however these numbers are not backed up with on Speedtest.net when testing against local and US based servers. The problems persist regardless of whether or not I am using the UK proxy. The problem from my perspective appears to be on Cryptic's end.

Ok, I have noticed huge amounts of lag lately in pretty much every part of them game. My question is will all this go away after LOR? Its to the point where I just log and play a different game cause sto is so slow.

Every patch in the last month was to fix it.
    It has become worse.
Next patch won't have any stability fixes. Kind of a toss up
Should I start posting again after all this time?

Will this lag go away after LoR launches? Well, considering the lag and connection issues have been persistent for well over a year now, I'd say no.

What Cryptic has been doing so far, unfortunately, is not working. It's almost as if they're applying band-aids to a large open flesh wound. And I'm not really sure whether it's a problem on Cryptic's end, or a problem between Cryptic and the players.

EDIT: Holy hell, stop moving topics mods! >_<

So, no news about all this lag? It's 2 days that the game is completely unplayable. It's not just me 'cause i heard a lot of ppl complaining about in chat, pve and pvp, both... :(

Please, do something, we can't play with all this lag, and tuesday we'll have LoR... how can we suppose to try new season with all these problems?

    Seriously :(

ps: the weird fact is only on ESD i don't lag... it's so frustrating!
