Same here and I have been TRIBBLE out contraband to make EC. It got me the XI purps. I usually only PVP with Fleet mates and friends but I like to be prepared to use my cloak and dagger tactics on Noobs who think they can take me. I rely on my cloak, lance and Subspace Jumper to stay behind the enemy, especially those frakin escorts >:D

Heh, very nice, as for me I mostly stuck with a Beam Array rig with torps and the Quad Cannons for a little extra 'oomph' when the Lance is still on CD. Haven't really needed the Jumper too much though as I almost always cloak at the start of Group PvP matches in my current Fleet and let the others go in first, then when they least expect it 'surprise!'. Heh, Decloak, fire Lance and forward weapons into their aft quarter.

This post is addressed specifically to Brandon.

Since you are the liaison between PWE and us lowly users, communication is the
key to customer satisfaction. In the future, when there is maintenance to be done,
be it scheduled, unscheduled, or emergency,
"PLEASE STATE THE NATURE OF THE EMERGENCY" (to paraphrase the EMH).

For example, what type of emergency is it?

    - Natural disaster: Fire, flood, lightning, earthquake, tornado, meteor, sunspots, etc.
    - Man made disaster: Tripped on power cord, put too many games on one server,
put too many servers on one router, failed to anticipate network load, etc.
    - Hamster disaster: Got drunk and fell off the wheel, got hair caught in bearings of the wheel,
died due to lack of food and/or water, etc.

With this many outages in a single week, (what is it, 4 or 5 this week?),
we need much better communication of exactly is going on over there.

It would go a long way to alleviating the 100+ pages of trolling you get after each outage.

This does give me an idea for a new mini game for players trying to get in the launcher during downtimes.
Please state the nature of you login issue.

    I'm sorry what was that?

Are you still experiencing a login issue?

    Was that a yes?

    Is the launcher running?

    I'm sorry what was that?

I don't mind the downtimes, to be honest. I would rather they were working to fix issues, some of which we probably cannot see, as we do not have access to server monitoring data that they do. It is highly likely, given how software development works, and hardware upgrading and testing can do the same, in some situations, that they see a symptom, and take the standard approach to fixing it. But, as they find out later, another problem is actually giving very similar symptoms, and their fix doesn't address that issue. Things not meshing together as smoothly as they should, and diagnosing is often the hardest part of the problem, in anything electronic or mechanical. Talk to your car mechanic about that sometime :)

Now, my cause for concern is why all PWE games have to be brought down simultaneously to address issues such as this. The games are not necessarily on the same server, they may not even be in the same building, or country. The only thing consistent about the connection between the games is that our accounts go cross game... which annoys me to no end. I really dislike getting mail in my NW game about my STO auctions, to be honest. But that is neither here nor there.

What this leads me to assume initially, is that the account server is the problem, and I, for one, would like some assurances that our data is safe, particularly those that have made credit card purchases in the past.

If it is, and this is just a hardware problem, then fine, that will get sorted out in due course (probably with more down time, but that is life.) But if it is something that can affect my data security on the account server, I, for one, would like to be informed.

    Thank you.

When i loged in to Neverwinter this morning (11 hours ago) it stated the downtime from 1600 UTC.

When i loged from Neverwinter to STO my STO launcher didnt mention the downtime, i played all day between Neverwinter and STO. The STO launcher never mentioned it.

    I was ahh nice.

Till i loged in after a break, they simply forgot to mention it on the STO side and call it emergency,

But i aint complaining it gives more time for making a proper dinner

I am disappointed that the game is down for 3 hours. But I have a real life and so will find something else to do to relax after a long day at work in the real world.
This game is still a favourite past time for me. I cannot wait until LOR arrives and yes I too believe we will suffer outages then.

I will continue playing as throughout the last nearly 3 years
Keep up the mainly good work Cryptic and ps. Great work on the Romulan stuff - it all looks awesome

    This is true.

A few years back in LotRO the server I played on went down. Less than an hour later all the servers were shut down and there was a post on the forums. This explained that the server that went down did so because a newly replaced peice of hardware failed so they pulled all the servers down and removed the hardware as a precaution. New hardware had been ordered and the servers would be up as soon as they had it fitted.

The post was more detailed than that, however that was all it took to waylay complaijnts and have people thanking them for keeping us informed.

Even though people may not understand what they say it would help if they told people what was going on, no matter how detaiuled. So far it is just none information and what looks like a copy and paste post.

Technically, it isn't free, even if Cryptic hails STO as being F2P. You have to pay for the Internet, right?

So,... you want them to reimburse the incremental portion of your ISP cost for downtime of the game? Let us know how that works out. :P

Welll, bottom line is, it doesnt matter what we say here or anywhere.. We dont count you see.. The only people who count to any company are the investors, and we are not them. however, at this point, i cant believe the investors ( the group that keeps the company alive financially ) arent sitting up and scratching their heads wondering if cryptic is such a good investment.. I can only imagine that the folks in the board room at cryptic are running around nervous as hell this morning, expecting the axe to fall.. and they bloody well should be. incompetence of this magnitude is never accepted by investors..

They are not thinking that and unless someone dropped a royally huge ball, this is nothing to get crazy about; the investors are more likely thinking "This was an amazing investment", as they watch the Zen roll in.
Because most of the people familiar with how MMOs work both from a client end and from the dev end, understand that maintenance (yes, ESPECIALLY the emergency/unscheduled kind) is a fact of life.
And what is said here does matter, otherwise Bran wouldn't ever bother to step in and post updates. You must consider, however, that not much stock is going to be placed in the opinions of those who cant bother themselves to learn about how incredibly difficult it is to maintain and run MMO (and other types) of server farms.

I'm F2P also. What we get for Zen is "stuff", not game time. The "stuff" will still be there when maintenance is finished.

Criptic why is it that other Country's can by Zen but Australia can't. This is really unfare or Australian's like to call it unAustralian.

Can you give an Answer please to this issue.

First off I wish there was a bit more to tell us what is really going on. Server Stability type stuff drives me nuts. Tell me hey we are having a network issue, we think a card has gone bad so we need to replace but to do so we take it all down. I would much rather see something like that. I understand it. I am an IT person myself. The fuzzy answers make me crazy.

For those who claim to be F2Players, but buy Zen, hint you are not really playing for free.

I am a subscriber I just want more info, especially after last nights maintenance was suppose to fix things. It makes you look like you do not know what you are doing or what is really going on. Servers these days have so much monitor stuff on them you can somewhat know ahead of time if there is a hardware failure about to happen or is starting.

Emergency network maintenance is going really well. Our teams are moving incredibly fast to get you back in-game! Thanks for your support.

    Cheers,

Less concerned with speed than effectiveness, but thanks for the update.

About 1.5 hours, assuming the estimate is correct. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
