Mhm, faszinating. I expected Cryptic that would make pay Romulan ships, but put all Romulan ships in C-Store is something new. I won't pay 119 ? for a digital item sorry, that is totally overpriced.
And no doubt that additional STO game bundles offered for sale were included in their financial model as part of their decision for continued development
If I recall, they don't release these kinds of things often--not even mentioning that this is their first 'expansion' on STO. If they at all relied on mythical legacy pack sales as part of the development cost, I'd be worried about their risk-taking.
No, I'm willing to bet they were comfortable enough with their ongoing C-Store sales that it made launching an expansion both worthwhile and feasible. Pack sales would be icing on the cake.
EDIT - It's interesting that since posting my original mention of 'whales,' that there have been two very defensive posts in response. I'm not making a value judgement here--just pointing out the fact that most F2P titles rely on a handful of big spenders. That's it.
Don't be so defensive over something you have zero stake in. Or do you?
Also, does this mean these ships will not simply be for sale in the Z store? Kinda stuff we'd all like to know before getting ourselfs into this.
It has been said many times. The ships will be in the C-Store on launch. The pack is just a way to pre-buy them all for a discount.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
I paid for the game when it came out. Like I paid for all these other games populating my hard drive or sitting in boxes next to my Xbox.
60 bucks is a fair price for a bundled package that contains as little as that package contains.
It's the cost of a whole game. Or an expensive expansion.
okay you paid 60 for STO when it was new....but the expansion is still free and the items are not if Cryptic was selling the expansion then I would agree but they are selling items in a bundle that will be sold individually on the C store. The pack is not the expansion.
I put a couple hundred in the Cstore since we were told a couple weeks ago to wait for a package and you dont have an option to buy the package with your own currency? REALLY, REALLY?
This is why I hate all the secret TRIBBLE with the product development philosophy for this company. It seems you guys nearly always find some way to put a twist on things and it often is not well received either .....
If you are looking for an excellent PvE fleet consider: Omega Combat Division today.
Former member of the Cryptic Family & FriendsTesting Team. Sadly, one day, it simply vanished - without a word or trace...
Looks nice, but I would've preferred the bonuses to be available in perhaps 3 different segments, with the bonus titles & keys available for buying all 3 segments.
Also, ?80+ for ships with unreleased stats? No thank you. I'd echo the calls for a mid-range pack, one that has the "best of both worlds". [Pun intended].
However, I'd say that you dropped the ball by not mentioning LTS bonuses first. It'd give people more of an incentive to spend money on a sub rather than some shiny gimmicks.

My thoughts? Your wife sounds like the sane half of the marriage. Listen to her! Do you really NEED 9 ships, 4 of them T5? You can only fly one at a time. Also as far as I remember Dan said that people who have reached T5 rep with New Romulus will automatically get Remans as playable species, so you would probably pay there for nothing. Are a few doffs and costumes really worth it? Reman doffs will probably be pretty standard in the new faction etc. Think like a Vulcan.
If I recall, they don't release these kinds of things often--not even mentioning that this is their first 'expansion' on STO. If they at all relied on mythical legacy pack sales as part of the development cost, I'd be worried about their risk-taking.....
In additional to the original 'Lifetime' subscription offered during 'Beta', wasn't a similar package offered for 'Neverwinter' ??? The lack of introductions of large priced/large content bundles may simply be because the opportunity to introduce them into the game are few and far between, and can only be justified to the players with major expansions such as 'Legacy'...
I don't think $125 is too bad a price for all of that. I mean I used to play WoW and it cost me $50 for the game, another $50 for each expansion (3 I purchased) and $15/month to play for 5 years. I spent $200 just to get the game on my computer and another $900 to play it for $1100 total. I started playing STO when it went F2P and have spent maybe $150 on the game, mostly key packs. So I don't see that $125 being that much if you want all those extra ships, titles BOFF's, DOFF's etc.
I just don't like the fact that it's all bundled into one with no option to just buy the few things in the pack we really like. I also don't like the idea that a playable reman faction should be exclusive to an $125 pack. That's ridiculous considering how integral Remans are to the expansion. We've been super excited for Legacy of Romulus b/c we get to play as Remans, and now those hopes are thrown under a bus with this. So lame.
I wasted $60 on SimCity sometime last year. Won't do business with EA again. Cryptic on the other hand has put out a game I've enjoyed for over 3 years, now. The package seems reasonably priced. I've been debating whether to go through the grind again with another toon, but I think I will now.
Fortunately for me, my wife prefers it when I pick out my own presents. Father's Day is coming up, so I'm in.

You can buy all of the items individually on the C-Store when LoR launches. The Packs are just a way of getting them for a pre-order discount.

That's largely tangential to the overall point that you wouldn't likely plan development of an expansion like this based on some mythical number of legacy pack sales. We've been told countless times that F2P has been profitable for STO and that the game continues to perform well. The consistency of support from C-Store spenders and memberships is likely what made LoR possible, and I again state that any legacy pack sales are probably just icing on the cake.
I have to admit, whilst I don't really have the finances to support such a purchase at present, I'd be at an impasse between buying the (Romulan) Legacy pack or the general Lifetime Subscription. :P
The LTS is worth far more than the ship pack, and is usable for all characters, regardless of gender, race, or faction.
Plus you get some nifty bonuses and a stipend of Zen points.

Word from Bran is you can't buy this pack with just Zen. So technically all those thousands and thousands of posts from the past that said hey you can buy that Fed ship with Zen you get from Dil grinding so you don't spend a single dollar, may not apply to this legacy pack. Meaning it's 125 bucks, or nada.
Still waiting for more details about that, but, if that's the case then that does indeed separate this from other purchases. As Cosmic above points out the ships and stuff could cost 181 bucks ala carte. But going by the old ways of using dil to get zen, something Cosmic could probably write a guide about, that 181 bucks worth of stuff can all be bought from farming. I'm not sure the 125 buck package can be bought from farming.
As it stands, the OP is right. 125 bucks is overpriced. It just is.
If I read the FAQ and original posts correctly, you can't buy the pack with ground zen BUT every item in the packs APART FROM TITLES will be in the c-store and purchaseable with zen at some stage. The pack merely offers a chance for those who would pay real money and not ground zen to get them at a discount. As Cosmic has pointed out in almost every one of the rage threads this pack has produced, none of this is necessary stuff, it is a c-store bundle with a discount and about $30 of lockbox keys in it.
I bought the starter pack and might buy other ships later, whether cash or ground zen is the only question. Don't need/want the keys, my title is good with whatever supports the KDF (Disenchanted or Warrior of the Empire), I will unlock Reman toons through rep system and I'm happy with price of the smaller pack. I'll buy the ship that suits my play-style and not have half-a-dozen I don't fly and regret buying in the Legacy pack.

I never said the pack was the expansion. I said the pack was overpriced for the content you get. I simply don't value the title Rhiannsu as much as you apparently do.
I woulda thought if you were a Lifetime Subscriber that this Romulan Legacy Pack would be like a free DLC thing for the price we all paid for the Lifetime....$118 dollars is asking to much if you ask me. I'd say give alittle something and get alittle something back.

As an LTS, the expected rewards (in line with the other 2 factions) will be playable liberated Romulan Borg.

Are Remans still also available as an unlock for hitting T5 Romulan rep?
From the Ask Cryptic: Reman species are an account unlocked reward that will be added to the New Romulus Reputation or available for purchase. <-(purchase = C-Store or in the Legacy Pack).
The pack merely offers a chance for those who would pay real money and not ground zen to get them at a discount.
Ah you missed the larger context of why I brought that up. For years now the single biggest complaint about this game's c-store has been it offers a Pay to Win model. The biggest point posters use to shoot that down is that everything is available for zen and can be acquired for free.
This pack, however, is not available like that. It's a straight money transaction. It sets a bit of a precedent for that larger discussion.
I realize all that stuff will be available for zen ala carte.
And I also realize with how little attention Cryptic gives to non-federation factions, it's most likely the best option to just wait, level your Romulan, see if it's actually worth playing and investing time and resources into, and then getting the Mogai Retrofit as a single purchase since that will save you money or Zen and get you the most bang for your buck or Dil.
It's just I feel:
1- This should probably be purchasable with zen on the store. Maybe in 6 months from now as a sale or whatever. But it should be zen acquirable.
2- 125 bucks is overpriced. Rhiannsu isn't worth that much.

Speaking of, to have a T5 Valdore skin, would I need both the Valdore and the Mogai Retrofit (assuming the Valdore isn't a separate ship completely)?

My two questions:
Are Remans still also available as an unlock for hitting T5 Romulan rep?
Last I heard, Romulans could use allied BOs. Does that include C-Store BOs?
For example, could I have a Romulan allied with the Federation who has:
Reman Liberated Borg BO, Khitomer Accord Borg BO, Federation Amazon pre-order/C-Store Federation Borg Engineer BO?
It'd be nice to be closer to a full Borg away team.
It still will be, at tier 5. It will also be in the C-Store for those without the werewithal to wait until they finish grinding.
