Very interesting build. While I feel somewhat skeptical about the claim of 10k damage, I will admit that it may be possible that it is capable of remarkably high levels of damage.

However, I must ask three questions here:

What does this build do that other ships can not?

How much does this rely on a Tactical captain for boosting damage?

How much EC/Dil/Zen am I going to have to throw away for this?

I finally dumped this build on my Fleet Excelsior because I simply wasn't able to get to 10k on the Fleet Heavy Cruiser Retrofit (Which has one more tactical console then the Galaxy). This is the closest I've come to the 10k barrier, but even with 4 tac consoles and myself tossing out Attack Pattern: Beta 2 (LtCmd Tac: TT1, B:FaW2. AP:B2) I'm still not over 10k. What I can say is that this build added about 1k more to my dps total on average. Has anyone else tried it and what are you getting on your dps logs?

what does it do that others cant? nothing. thats the entire point. it was an experiment to see how much damage i could get out of the "lowest dps cruiser in the game"

does it rely on a tac. sure. but my engineer pulls 90% of the damage of my tacs with the same builds and gear. (no my engineer doesnt have the same level of gear as my tac so the only way to prove that is to run lower end gear on my tac)

how much ec dil and zen... well alot. the tac consoles are 20 mill each. the gear is piles of zen and t5 omega and romulan rep as well as 2 lobi store consoles (200 lobi each)

How fast can you take down a cube?

20k over the entire stf or just on the cube? Just on the cube its not that hard. I watched nikephorus spike at 58k tonight in his defiant.

In fact I've seen the kumari in a single hit break 200k damage.

The trick in pve isnt to hit once really hard but to do high sustained damage. Its completely backwards to pvp where you want massive spike damage coupled with debuffs from your team mates.

Getting that high over a short fight like that isnt too hard. You can pull that much on a good alpha strike in a decently geared escort. The numbers ive been posting though is for the entire stf not just the first cube.

    What an incredible read!

I helped Vex make his solo infected elite video, I was in the cloaked defiant. I run STF's and PvP with him regularly. This guy could make a rusty tin can pull 10k dps.

Vex, you ever need a hand filling spots for a naysayer infected run(and I hope they bring their parsers)Brody would love to tag along!

I used to think exactly like the nay-sayers, Cruisers and Beams suck because I read so on the forum. And now they are so invested in the idea, got so worked up in countless whine threads over it that they just cannot allow it to be false after all.

Then I picked up a cruiser simply because I was tired of escorts. I did expect to suck. Everyone and their mom told me I would suck, so it must be right, no? But then I realized I didn't. Quite on the contrary. When I started pulling 4k with an Eng captain and with all white equipment (OP: your "DPS doesn't depend on gear!" thread inspired me to do that!) I knew I was on to something.

Been working on that ever since (Reputation takes long because of the time gating, and this was a new alt just for this experiment, so I had to start from 0) and I'm now at reliable 6k with MK XI stuff and no Romy set items yet. I think I'll reach 8k easily once I get the sets completed and access to Mk XII equipment. And I think I can get even more with Aux2Bat build instead of a Dragon flagship style. Still working on the Doffs for that (starting doff chains from scratch also takes an annoying amount of time).

The biggest relevation for me after all that? Cruisers are so much more FUN. I don't have to worry about sudden one-shots, I don't have to worry about range (not so much anyway), I don't have to park before every target and stop and go between each, I don't have to feel useless drawing Donatras aggro again and keepeing her above 5km distance with my pitiful rear turret damage. I just fly circles around everything and blast away now. Nothing can kill me and things just die. It's how a Star Trek game should actually feel. And guess what, it does! Just don't believe the whiners on the forum. They can't help themselves, I know, I was one of them.

If you guys want solo numbers why not do one of those foundry farming missions like Battleship Bashing on elite? They can be very challenging. Or any other solo space mission. But if we vote on one and everyone use it as a standard it would be an easy way to judge your own build.
I thought I took the Blue Pill.......:(

thank you. the ONLY cruiser out there that needs work is the Galaxy. The rest is only build and skill. but note the one shot can still get you but you have a better chance to survive it.

I agree with you, I've been flying cruisers since launch and I love them. I'm currently flying a Fleet Assault cruiser and it is a monster in dps. Anyhow the issue is that PvP and PvE are entirely different. High sustained damage is great in PvE but in PvP...recently with all the passive heals and buffs of late sustained pressure damage doesn't quite cut it ...not as well as high spike damage...that is why escorts are so popular in PvP.

    Total ISE Hull = 10,522,140

    Posted Parse Log = 15,687,448

    Difference = 5,165,308

Something doesn't add up here. Their are some things that could be responsible for this difference such as damage that is instantly healed, shield damage being considered damage, or there is the most likely possibility that FaW is not being parsed properly.

Not saying the build is bad. Saying the numbers don't add up.

And this post pretty much explains the huge grain of salt I take with any of these dps numbers. I'm assuming that parse was taken from a group run and not solo, so he's done 50% extra total HP damage just by himself, not even including 4 teammates and the damage they should be doing (but as mentioned, skipping shield numbers on the few targets that have them). There is a reason everyone pushes spamming AoE attacks at all times for maximum parses. Yes, it's helpful in quite a few STF situations because you have multiple valid targets to hit, but it also artificially pushes DPS values to the moon because you're constantly hitting non-shielded targets that are insta-regening the damage. I'd say it's pretty disingenuous to be throwing around the values that come out on this forum, but since they are actually solid builds that do put out good damage against valid targets as well it's hard to complain too much.

Im really trying to figure out where you get the instant healing thing from. The only thing I shoot at that isntant heals is the transformer. I stay out of range of the gate for 2 reasons. It will just regen and I dont like getting shot by it until its time to blow it up.

Is fire at will giving a false read on damage and is the parser perhaps not giving 100% accurate data. Probably on quite true. However these are the best most reliable numbers I can find to benchmark my dps. Even if its inflated a bit a 4:15 second run in infected even without the parse or a solo run of a little over 3 minutes in sb234 tells me this ship pulls big damage. If it makes you feel better Ill refrain from calling my next post 10dps and instead just say damn this ship hits hard.

I threw out the challenge for people to run with me if they doubt the fact this ship pulls big damage. Two people have taken me up on it. Both went away from it telling me Ive got one hell of a build.

Oh, I completely agree, and unfortunately it's the best tool we have right now. Staying out of gate range would definitely help to not inflate the numbers, and I have no qualms with your build being quite effective. It's more just my pet peeve about dps numbers in general and how easy it can be to cheese them up with spread attacks while not actually providing additional benefit.

I moved into an escort set it all up, and while it does do good damage, more than my cruiser, i was a little dissapointed that the difference wasnt as great as i'd been led to believe.

    Good job.

A quick couple of questions, why the reman set? Personal preferance? Also, im working on an aux to bat build in an assault refit and nearly have tier IV rep, would you run FAW II and AP:B II or AP:B I and FAW III?

My cruiser isn't nearly as well geared as his and deals 1100-1200 per beam on a target with 1 beta, x6 that is 7k single target damage right there without fancy stuff. Stop the ignorant anti-beam propaganda. Besides even if it were true, those spheres are still in the way and need to go >_>

You also don't finish ISEs in 4 minutes with imaginary DPS.

I just laugh at that. you realize that beams do TRIBBLE dmg still, right? you can pull 17k dps in ISE with DHCs, nearly double the amount you can deal with beams. so in comparison, DHCs are still far superior. it is just the player behind the mouse that holds builds back, with the lack of imagination. so yeah, BEAMS DO NO DAMAGE, they can just produce enough dmg, to deal with stuff in stfs, which is forgiving on dps anyway

He claimed the OP would do 2500 single target damage max, which is plain out bull****. And there is a difference between no damage and enough damage.

A Tac, in a 3 or 4 Tac console cruiser with some decent Mk XII Beam Arrays can do some fierce DPS in an STF - they can pull aggro from (some) escorts and they can tank in ways that escorts only dream of.

But defending the Kang in CSE is a PITA because beams don't do burst damage - yes, you can use BO for spike but that drains the tank dry and you'll be doing crappy DPS for several seconds afterwards whilst the BoPs and Raptors balance their shields.

It's doable, but it's not that much fun - taking on Cubes/Negs/anything that succumbs to pressure damage however is glorious.

I've done CSE with 3 other Excelsiors and it was a heckuva lot of fun (and we had about 5 minutes left on the clock when the Kang warped out) so yes, cruisers can do DPS - with Tacs piloting them.

Are they any good in PvP? Hell no. That boat sailed a long time ago and with all the resists and heals flying around now, Tac/Cruisers are totally redundant in PvP.

I'm not even sure it's possible to fix Cruisers/Beam Arrays any more since the balance has shifted so far towards Tac/Sci/Eng/'scorts but if you want to have fun and do lots of DPS in PvE then that, at least, is still possible.

First off. Ive guarded the kang just fine in my galaxy. Position yourself out of range of the cube / probes and faw melts the bops and raptors

Second pvp is about team work. Ive never seen a good premade that didnt have at least 1 cruiser. Stop looking at pvp as my ship against yours. Its my TEAM against your TEAM.

Also to the other guy saying beams cant dps my jem hadar carrier pulls 17k in ise with beams... so um... go watch this PARENTAL ADVISORY FOR BAD LANGUAGE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaEFICFx4E8&feature=youtu.be

I didn't say it wasn't possible, I said it wasn't fun - I've never lost the opt guarding the Kang in my Excel clearing all three lanes but beams are less than optimal against the Raptor spawns.

I'm betting that cruiser wasn't doing any DPS though since I almost never see them (and when you do, they're normally dead before they get a couple of volleys off) - premades have a tank throwing out heals and/or debuffs and you can't do that effectively if you're trying to squeeze DPS out of a cruiser.

Carriers get inflated DPS scores because of their pets - try again without using any and you'll see the real DPS your beams are doing.
