So, in theory the Romulans need to start with 15 ships (5 ranks x 3.) I wonder if there are really 15 player ships ready? Or...maybe these Romulans get some KDF/Fed ships? (That would also solve the lockbox & veteran ship problem.)

BoP (Raider), Mogai (Raptor), D'Deridex (Battle Cruiser), ????? (Science/Support)

Utilize upgrades instead of ships, they would only need those four ships. Well, plus the TOS Rom BoP starter ship.

To that though, it might be a case of adding a Flight-Deck Cruiser/Heavy Raptor Carrier, Carrier, Time Ship, Temporal Destroyer, Vet Ship, Scimitar 3pack (Bort/Ody comparitive)...?

    They'll also need a shuttle.

So somewhere around 15 ships... with cosmetic changes for the ships as they advance/skins/bits/etc...cause you'd also be looking at 4+ Fleet Ships that would be needed at some point.

It's kind of twisted though, eh? Not counting small craft (nor lockbox/event), there's over 85 Fed Ships and over 60 KDF Ships.

Definitely going to be interesting to see how they handle that for the Roms. We've got two months of info coming our way though...will have to see.

Having to upgrade a handful of ships would be kind of chintzy. I'm curious as well - maybe they have been steadily adding Romulan ships in the background over the last year. Or maybe Romulans don't have sci ships, or all their ships have universal Boffs....

that would make for interesting gameplay...but if the green elves get that, the feds are going to start screaming louder than its ever screamed before...they still rage every so often because they have no uni boff ship like the KDF's BoPs

Upgrading ship as you level, makes a lot of IP sense. It would also makes sense as a preparation for a future lvl increase. So Introduce the tech to romulans and then later make it game wide.

I just hope we get sci heavy faction. Feddies are eng, KDf are tacs, so romulans should be sci baddies.

It's kind of along the lines of what I asked in the Ask Cryptic March 2013 thread:
My apologies first, if my question has been asked - after a couple of pages, I started glossing - after a few pages, well - here I am. :D

Given the unlikelihood of seeing 60-80 Romulan ships, outside of certain special ships (or even including those); are the Romulans going to be a test bed for more modular ship design? We've heard in recent interviews about various customization methods for ships (warp cores, computers, secondary deflectors, armor slots, etc) - will that be something that we see with the Romulan ships?

After you've moved from your TOS starter BoP to a ship - you'll start with "base" gear for it. As you level, you'll have the option to upgrade to new "base" gear or purchase improved refit/retrofit gear. While each ship will maintain certain base stats, will it be akin to having three packs-in-one for each ship? You can get the free "base" Tac/Eng/Sci gear or purchase refit/retrofit Tac/Eng/Sci gear (cores, computers, bridges, etc, etc, etc)...?

We're halfway there with the other factions anyways given all the fleet and retrofit versions, at least for the popular ships. Might as well go all the way.

There are several folks trying to get folks together to do fleets so it can be ranked as fast as possible...

...one could possibly make a killing by having some Romulan Fleet Creation Consultants there in the early days as folks try to put together their fleets outside of the groups that are prepared. I dread how much it will cost to hire folks should I FleetOfOne Romulans as well...meh.

It's kind of funny, all the arguments taking place elsewhere. There was just so little initial information in that announcement, it's left the doors wide open for vast argumentative speculation.

Course, there's also the playing as Romulan Republic rather than Romulan Star Empire (though there's a tendency from folks to say they're happy they're not playing as one of D'Tan and Obisek's hippies...lol).

Even with the little information they've released, they've disappointed some folks. As the wild speculation continues and more information is released, there are bound to be more disappointed folks.

    WARBIRDS
Romulan captains take command of mighty Warbird Class starships. Push the engines to the limit and unleash the new and devastating powers of the Singularity Core.

This says to me that big ships are going to have less hull points but faster engines that turn better than fed or kdf ships. Does it say the same thing to you guys? We know that cryptic usually gives more speed and turn to ships with less hull.

Not necessarily. *points at the Bug ship* That thing has nearly cruiser-esque level hull, and turns pretty much like a BoP.

And 'pushing the engines to the limit' might just be a selling line more than actual 'facts' of the Warbird and this 'Singularity Core' they're talking about.

Speculation ofc but im flying the warbird exclusivly.

2 D`dereidex Warbirds and 3 Norexan Mogais will be the ideal setup in a 5v5.

My fanishself wants the D'deridex. My realistic self though realises it'd probably be closer to a Fed cruiser than a KDF battlecruiser. As such I'm not going to waste my token on it, if it can be bought by a token.

I'll probably end up getting the Mogai or whatever decent T5 escort they have.

IDK, unless something drastic happens with pvp I can see this ending up like the klink state. Then again what do I know. I am not sure I even want to start all over again from scratch. Guess we will see when they add it.

Meh, my reaction to the Ask Cryptic wasn't that great when they first put it out there. Three hours later and well... <expletive meh> would better explain the feeling.

I mean, in order of the Q&A:

    #1 - Meh
    #2 - Bah
    #3 - FFS
    #4 - Meh
    #5 - Zzzz
    #6 - Blah
    #7 - Duh
    #8 - Uh huh (#3)
#9 - So no different, meh
    #10 - Zzzz
    #11 - Meh
    #12 - Uh huh (#3)
    #13 - Faction? BS! Species play/subfaction.
    #14 - Zzzz
#15 - Barbie and Ken called to say thanks. /cough
    #16 - Hrmmmm, interesting.
    #17 - Duh
    #18 - FFS (#3)
    #19 - Da ???
#20 - Can my Gorn get a pedicure too? FFS
    #21 - Hrmmm
    #22 - Meh
    #23 - Awesome! /cough
    #24 - So no
    #25 - I've got some Excedrin left.
    #26 - Meh
#27 - How much will it cost us?

I had thought the stuff on Tribble was bad. The Ask Cryptic was miles beyond bad.

I'm at a quandary as to whether I should bother to continue with STO.

edit: That sounds so melodramatic, lol - it's mainly just a case of being drained. I knew that them letting speculation run wild for a week would likely result in something like this. Just drained.

Honestly, I'm ok with the Romulans being tied to either helping the Feds or helping the Klingons. I like that we'll be able to join existing fleets. It makes it difficult for me to decide which side of the game I'd want to join up with at first. Maybe I'll make one for each side, we'll see what the Warbirds look like of course. And just how game breaking they will be.

    In otherwords..
