branflakes just said you can use 3 aux cannons at once, and you can use them on other ships too. this ship couldn't be a worse addition to the game, its planets of the apes over at cryptic, theres no one sane left.
he then makes sure we all know that its all "subject to change"
Multi-Mission Science Vessels come standard with a Mark XII Auxiliary Dual Heavy Phaser Cannon. This cannon is designed to utilize Auxiliary power instead of Weapon power.
Nowhere does that state they scale off Aux power. Don't state somthing you haven't confirmed. Right now there's nothing to suggest these will not be like the Quads. Drain engine, scale off weapons. Remeber the Quads engine power afect is touted as some great advantage when it''s nothing but a huge handicap. I'd bet on same for these.
Assuming (and it's a big assumption) that they work based solely on aux, it'd probably be more efficient to run 2/3 ADHCs and one or two regular, since you'd get a massive damage buff from splitting the drain between two systems.
You know, this is not going to stop either. 1st time, OP little Bug, next - little time ships, now - 3 pc set bonus for an entirely Op Sci/destroyer ship.
And once you've spent that 50.00 bucks on this P2W ship, they'll be another, and another, and another. All will be "better" and more powerful than the last. (got to get you into that store) They will have spent your last $50 and they'll want more. That's the entire nature of P2W. Cryptic has dug their own grave (for STO PVP anyway) with this stuff. It's all about the store and "fluff" doesn't sell all that well. However, P2W sells just fine. I'm sad to say that BioWare will figure all this out also just the same as Cryptic did and I fully expect just as large a mess over there as well.
Basicly we might as well face it. This is a PVE game (if you can accept that). If not, then there are still options available that include a subscription and no P2W store with some others on the way.
I've always had a hard time accepting that... given how little PvE there actually is. I mean, if not for the Foundry - outside of grinding STFs - this is basically a buy on Friday done Sunday night game when it comes to content.
With the addition of the S7 grinds - how much PvP's going down the tubes...
Well, while this is obviously not a PvP game - I can't really call it a PvE game...
...if I had to call it something, I'd likely go with: a chore.

Ya this is basicly the last big cash grab of "content" before the staff gets completely gutted.
As it is we all know they spend 90% of there time on NWO and possibly even what ever is coming after NWO. NWO launches early 2013... at that point STO "content" is done... we can expect a lockbox ship every 2-3 months and that is all. I mean season 7s new Grind Core Missions... are the first new content since March... 1-3 missions a year is a great output isn't it? lol
I guess we will see a few more copy and paste repeat till ya want to vomit missions with season 7... I would have to agree though this will likely be the last of any free added to the game "content" we can expect from Cryptic.
Good luck with NWO guys... I have not doubt the legions of Cryptic Fans will keep it profitable for years. lmao
Designing the Vesta?s capabilities was a bit of a challenge. We spent a lot of time researching its specs and reviewing the novels. It was important to us that fans of the ?Destiny? novels felt like they were commanding a Vesta class starship. But let?s face it; the Vesta is a technological marvel with every factory option known to Starfleet. It even has Intrepid-style landing gear! In game terms, the ship is a little over-powered. So the challenge was to bring to life as much detail as possible without breaking the game.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read on these forums. STO is doing amazing and has a ton of support behind it, its team and its future from both Cryptic and PWE. STO and NW have their own dedicated teams, both of which are growing. I even spoke to a brand-new STO Content Designer just today that will be saying "hi" on the forums soon, and have met several other new Devs that have joined the team recently. The team is growing and will continue to do so.
First new content since March? Season 6 launched just over 3 months ago in July.

bran, please tell your dev friends to try out pvp. we would be more then happy to show them exactly why releases like this are harmful to balance, they really don't seem to understand what they are doing to us, it even feels like they are doing this to spite us.
pvp'ers spend a lot of money on the game, please stop making us angry. let us show them were we are coming from. when there isnt overpowered spam ruining matches, the pvp in this game is the funnest thing there is period. i enjoy no gameing more then sto pvp, when its good. they seem to have no idea what they are sitting on, neglecting, and polluting with releases like the vesta.

Agreed. Some of the more apocalyptically-oriented comments above were probably overstatements. But those aside, the new Vesta --while a beautiful ship in its own right and true to the novels--feels like it was done with utter disregard for the PvP community and for balance more generally. The problem is that this ship could have been done in such a way that it complimented PvP.
The multi-mission idea is so cool and has the potential to add nuance and new dimensions to PvP player, if done sensitively. But as it stands, the Vesta seems to have been built with little regard for the Pvp world.
Perhaps you could answer some questions for us:
- Was the Vesta tested in PvP scenarios? Was it tested by PvP vets or just random players?
- What were the results of the PvP tests on the Vesta (assuming they were done)?
- What kinds of conversations went on around the Cryptic table regarding balance?
This kind of transparency would probably help extinguish some fires.
It's funny thinking about it. I haven't got that adrenaline bounce in PvP like I do in STO since Shadowbane. EVE never did that. Heck, even UO didn't. Not AC, AO, WoW, WAR, RIFT, EQ, AA, etc, etc, etc...
...when there's a good clean match - legs start bouncing as the adrenaline starts pumping. Don't even notice it - stuck in a trance - fingers flying on the keyboard, mouse turning looking around the field of battle - and just lost in that beautiful dance that can be PvP in STO.
Don't need any napkins handy, but I'll usually go for a smoke after a good fight... win or lose - it's just that much fun - it's that good.

We do But I'll pass along your message.
There is a group of PvPers that were invited for the focus testing of the Vesta and are already providing very constructive feedback. These are also PvPers that most of you all know and post in these forums often.
There are always going to be the doomsayers, nothing new there and it's not even worth responding to.
I like the Vesta lineup, I'm likely to get an Aventine when it becomes available but I doubt I'll be going for the 3 pack, 50 bucks is just a bit too big a pill when all I want is the consoles for 1 ship, so If I do get others it will be spread out.
I like the sleek design, frankly after seeing the Chimera which despite it's capabilities has an appearance that reminds me too much of a fat goldfish, I was afraid that the next offering was going something equally cumbersome looking, so seeing a true tier 5 science vessel with the sharp streamlining I've come to love has me anticipating it's release.
I would like to see more variety on the high end ships and I'm not referring to repecs of TV ships that are 10-30 years old, we have Oddys all over the place and it would be nice if there were also different hull variants, reskins, kitbashes, whatever that would allow us to really build a unique T5 ship.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.

Thanks for responding rapidly, Branflakes. I am glad to hear that PvP folks were invited to these tests. It would be interesting to hear their feedback on the Vesta--or perhaps we already have, they just can't say they were part of the test group.
I hope that among this test group were some KDF pvpers . . . bceause I have to say, that, if there were, they probably wouldn't have recommended a hanger full of danubes=)

Ah, I see what you think my post says They've actually not got their hands on it yet The constructive feedback has come from the stats, as well as the discussions they've been having with the Devs -- actual testing of the ship will be happening very soon; you might even see one while your on Tribble soon and have the chance to challenge one to PvP or run alongside one in an STF, event, ETC.
I would bet all my energy credits (not that there's much of them... lol, the pauper's life) in the world that the Vesta will not be changed in the slightest by the time of release. Forgive me but the dev blog post was not a set of possible patch notes, it was a marketing announcement.
Like someone else said, we're hitting so many balls out of the park lately that it's starting to make me wonder if the devs are actively doing these things to spite us. I mean, the Danubes by default? Of all the things in the world they could've slotted in there (why not Work Bees or just shield repair drones... either would make more sense)?
This'll probably be the last time I ever post about anything still under development... I'm not kidding either, I don't want any more of the things I might say to become self-fulfilling prophecies.

Oh I seee. For some reason I thought that there was a group of people already putting the Vesta through its paces. Okay, so there is still room for feedback to influence stats, etc., which makes me a bit more optimistic.

man, i know the hanger is cool and all, but thats the straw here, nay, its the steal girder that is breaking the camels back. thats just too much. this ship is mold breaking, it can contribute in every way a cruiser, escort, sci ship, and dedicated carrier can contribute at the same time.
its 1 thing if the vesta is a fleet recon sci as far as movment, that thas the real nice ody/vet ship style station setup, thats the tineiest bit op but still ok, its something that costs money.
when you add something to that, then you really start makeing a problem. giveing it DHC ability, along with a WAY to good 13 turn is creating a monster. 3 DHC with just CRF 1 is about 3-5 times the spike a sci ship has ever been able to do in this game. thats damage that makes an 8 weapon cruiser blush, and becase its spike damage its twice as useful damage.
so right there we have crossed the line, by a lot. here you start makeing the vast majority of other sci ships avalable in gaem, includeing all the fleet sci ships, inferior by an order of magnitude. this is very short sighted, and damageing to the game future. it makes us think there isnt a future, becase they dont seem to have it in mind.
now we are getting to the hanger. runabouts are the most overpowered pet in the game. they have spawn cooldowns more similar to low hitpoint fighters, yet they have 20k hitpoints and a tractor beam that lasts something like 10-15 seconds. and you have about 5 seconds before another runabout chain tractors you. all the other non frigate pets in this game can be easily dealt with, if you have EWP or TBR, you are immune to siphon drones. against a group of runabouts, the only good way to kill them is a tac buffed CRF3 for most of its duration. by the time your done doing that, the runabout user is seconds away from tractoring you again.
controlling movement in pvp is the same as winning in pvp. the chain tractoring of runabouts, a pet and not a player ship, are the best thing in game at controlling movement. they have more then the weight of another player in terms of movement control and kill setting up. i already mentioned why the vesta is op without the hanger, now add that in with the most overpowered pet in the game, and you have a flying pvp ruining disaster.
i propose these changes to the vesta.
1.2 shield mod, its not a pure sci ship, its shield mod should be diluted as such, not higher.
give the winners 30k hull, like hull hitpoints make much of a difference. 90% of defense is out healing damage, max hitpoints are just a spike damage soak.
the 10 consoles can stay due to it having 3 console powers.
11 turn rate, this ship is nearly the same volume as the soverign, it should not turn twice as well. ether that or the soverign and all the other way to slowly turning fed cruisers need at least a +2 to thier turn. 1 13 turn rate with DHC use will let the vesta use narrow arc DHCs trouble free. kdf cruisers with 2 or 3 turn consoels can use DHC trouble free already, and thier turn is 9-11.
no hangers. the will scream bloody murder i know, but there is no justifiaction for this ship to have a hanger, vs ships like the ody, sov, or galaxy. look here at just how large the main hanger is on a galaxy http://reocities.com/Area51/rampart/5407/deck04.htm
or nerf runabouts. i actually would prefer this. cur thier hit points in half, and give them tractor beam 0.5 and they would mearly be as op as kdf siphon drones and advanced interceptors. if this is done, it can keep its hanger, it wont single handily double a vesta's threat and control capability anymore.
this brings the vesta down to sane levels, it would still be the best sci ship by far, but it doesn't practically invalidate every other ship regardless of type in game like the currently proposed vesta does. seriously, im not exaggerating that last part. you should let me test the thing on tribble. i'll prove what im saying is accurate.
Oh I seee. For some reason I thought that there was a group of people already putting the Vesta through its paces. Okay, so there is still room for feedback to influence stats, etc., which makes me a bit more optimistic.

We need your support to get this thing going. THx.
There's absolutely some room
As for your Boot Camp post, it's something I read this morning and have been thinking about. I really, really want to help out and support it. I think it could be really fun and I have some great ideas that I'd like to share to add to it, too.
The major concern I have is opening up those players to the "PvP" that goes on in this forum lol. It's like a warzone in here; there is so much rule-breaking going on and players are constantly are being trolled and harassed -- it's really unfortunate that a few individuals are ruining it for the rest of those who like to use this forum and provide constructive (positive or negative), civil feedback. I've been working on a thread that I've been wanting to post in here that comes from the heart as a fellow player, as well as the Community Manager. I'm hoping to have it posted soon. Basically, the trolling and harassing has to stop -- it's not good for the community, and it really doesn't help the cause.
Personally, I really enjoy PvPing -- I have played with a few of the best teams out there and always have a great time. They also share feedback and I pass it along often. I also read the threads and posts in this forum and know the feelings of the community towards the current state of PvP. We (the players, the STO team, Cryptic and Perfect World) want it to be a great experience. We've got some ways to go, but if we all work together, I think we can get to a point where PvP is something we'll see more players wanting to participate in. We won't get there overnight, but I hope that the increased Dev involvement in this sub-forum is a sign and a starting point.

There's a great discussion going on right now about the Runabouts with those who are testing the Vesta. Some REALLY good feedback coming in that may even help bring a couple changes to how they work. Everything is still in discussion, so I won't say anything further than that.
Oh what the TRIBBLE.... now I'll have to make three new toons for these :P... well maybe just two. Tac in a sci variant or engi healboat in a whatever varient... time to start some theory crafting posts mav?

- What were the results of the PvP tests on the Vesta (assuming they were done)?
- What kinds of conversations went on around the Cryptic table regarding balance?
This kind of transparency would probably help extinguish some fires.
...when there's a good clean match - legs start bouncing as the adrenaline starts pumping.
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=
Yeah, even long matches become captivating and something you almost don't want to end.
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=

Now that I have you here, Branflakes, please check out the PvP Boot Camp post. It is right up your alley in terms of Community Development:

We need your support to get this thing going. THx.
I can't wait till construction begins on something to give constructive feedback too.. for the KDF
man, i know the hanger is cool and all, but thats the straw here, nay, its the steal girder that is breaking the camels back. thats just too much. this ship is mold breaking, it can contribute in every way a cruiser, escort, sci ship, and dedicated carrier can contribute at the same time.
its 1 thing if the vesta is a fleet recon sci as far as movment, that thas the real nice ody/vet ship style station setup, thats the tineiest bit op but still ok, its something that costs money.
when you add something to that, then you really start makeing a problem. giveing it DHC ability, along with a WAY to good 13 turn is creating a monster.
Zilant, Talon, Slavemaster? Non-dread battleships...eh?
Then again, that might have to wait for the Typhoon, eh?
Maybe one "sooner" and then two with the Typhoon?
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=
