What? The @#$%? Are you smoking? How is the Atrox anything BUT a carrier? It's too slow and unwieldy to be a science ship, which is the only other alternative. It has two hangar bays. A ton of HP. Strong shields. Lots of sci capability. All I see when I see one of those is a carrier. Nothing else.
And the Armitage is an escort carrier. Not a true carrier. But seriously, how is the Atrox NOT a dedicated carrier???
It wasn't designed or built by the Federation only the Caitions.
If you look closely using freeze frame those ships were
Were much larger than fighters bigger than runabouts
They're the same Peregrines we have in STO. Exactly the same damn ship. They're called attack fighters. They look identical. They behave like fighters. How physically large they are is utterly irrelevant.
Denying the existence of starfleet fighters in cannon is an argument that bears no resemblance to reality at all.
So it was designed by cat people. How does that make it NOT a dedicated carrier? Who cares who built it! It is still almost exclusively a carrier is it not?

I think his point is that he wants something that's designed from the ground up in the Fed style as a carrier with Peregrines or something standard, with the classic nacelle-and-saucer, basic design.
That sort of thing.
I can actually get behind that. The Caitan carrier seems to have been designed to avoid the whole "federation doesn't use carriers" (although that doesn't satisfy anyone, of course).

And then, well, the Armitage and the Vesta...
I don't think he has a point. And if that was his point, then he didn't iterate properly, if at all. He had the gall to say that the Atrox wasn't a dedicated carrier. The Atrox is NOTHING else. It's not an escort like the Armitage, or a Science Cruiser like the Vesta will be. It's a CARRIER. Pure and simple.
And if he wanted an Federation designed carrier, then he should have said so. As is, he just made himself look foolish.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.

What do you mean 'dedicated carrier'? The Atrox is definitely a cross between a science ship and a carrier, with a science ship's weapons fit and shield modifier and a heavy science bias in its bridge officer component (not to mention subsystem targeting).
While it's true that the Armitage is a cross between an escort and a carrier, and the Vesta is a science/cruiser/thing with a hangar bay tacked on...that doesn't really make the Atrox a "dedicated carrier".

JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse
Sisko flat out says that they're fighters! They're identical to what we have in the game, again as fighters. There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever they're not fighters. They might be 50 meters long (they aren't), and that wouldn't stop them from being fighters.
And ds9 and voyager are both considered
( soft cannon )
Don't be absurd. DS9 and Voyager are both hard canon for the Star Trek franchise. According to CBS:
"Although the Animated Adventures had an undeniable Star Trek-ness to them, they are not considered part of the Star Trek "canon," or accepted Trek storyline. Almost without exception, it is the live-action series and movies that are considered canon. However, some Star Trek "facts" are actually borrowed from the animated show, i.e. the name of the original U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 captain, Robert April; the surname for Spock's mother, Amanda "Grayson"; etc."
Cannon does not support Feds using fighters
Sorry, not true.
1. CBS decides what's canon for Star Trek, not you.
2. CBS says that the live-action series and movies are canon (with exceptions from facts borrowed from other, softer canon)
3. Fighters were seen and described in DS9, particularly in Sacrifice of Angels.
4. DS9 is a live-action series of Star Trek
Therefore: Fighters are canon for the Federation in Star Trek.
Your claims to the contrary have no basis in reality whatsoever.
I wish feds would get over thier Pedastel complex, its a very annoying for the KDF to keep being told to "be happy" with the things we are not happy with about KDF gameplay.
If only the KDF had a pedestal complex of their own! Maybe they would be able to metaphorically stand on it and see how Cryptic's hands have been mostly tied but have nonetheless made their faction have lots of QoL and unique advantages clearly designed to make up for their perceived "slighting" of the KDF.
Its funny really, when the complaints of being a half faction are thrown about you never hear a peep about the design bias several systems have in their favor. But no worries, I'll be sure to bring them up every now and then!
WRONG... the Carriers came about because fed players complained about all of the fighter/frigate spam... and after all the complaints were tallied up the federation got the Atrox... not 2 months later they got the armatage..... and before you start calling me out as bing one of those that scream these are our toys and we are not sharing.... I have 3 fed characters and 3 KDF characters all at max level, now back to my rant..... most everything that was unique to the KDF (approximately 70% of the unique KDF stuff) is now in the hands of the federation.... so NO I dont think that the Federation needs a flight deck cruiser... you want a flight deck cruiser make a KDF character and play there....
am i reading this right? the KDF players don't want the Feds to have a flight-deck cruiser because they think it will give them a new, unprecedented experience? ok, maybe nobody said that exactly, but that's the general idea i get, and believe me, it doesn't exactly want me to have a carrier/flight-deck cruiser JUST for my klink, more like have a flight-deck cruiser for my Fed, which wouldnt exactly give me any advantage whatsoever...
The original STO carrier, the Vo'Quv, has the same features. With two hangar bays, bad turn rate, high hull, and support-focused innate capabilities, the Atrox and Vo'Quv are fairly clearly meant to serve as carriers first and foremost, with the Science capability meant to support its carried craft
And ds9 and voyager are both considered
( soft cannon )
Cannon does not support Feds using fighters
Soft cannon the sky is the limit read a few books
I'n the time frame of ds9 and voyager and some stuff

Cannons should not be confused with canon, the story material which is considered to affect overall continuity.
Also, you have the weirdest sense of Trek canon I've ever seen...
There is only one episode out of modern Trek that is not considered canon and that is the Voyager involving warp 10 and people turning into lizards. TOS on the other hand has lots of episodes that aren't considered canon or taking place in another universe/reality. I find it ironic that the first Trek story that they retell with the 2009 crew is an episode that is not considered canon or taking place in an alternate reality "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (it is fact that a variation of those events did take place in canon). Gene himself was a nasty revisionist when it came to Trek-canon and right now baring certain episodes, anything TOS/TAS/TNG/DS9/Voy/Ent/Movies is considered hard canon and only the books are soft canon.
Thus the fighters seen in TNG (Borg Cube wipes out a squadron over Mars), DS9 (Sacrifice of Angels), Voy (Caretaker), Ent (First Flight) and the fighters mentioned in TOS (I'm not sure about TAS) are in fact canon. Heck, the first appearance of a Holodeck was in TAS. I miss games like Star Fleet Battles with TOS style carrier, sure soft canon, but I would love to see variation of these in this game.
Hi, my name is: Elim Garak, Former Cardassian Oppressor
LTS, here since...when did this game launch again?
Don't take this the wrong way, but please, stop posting total nonsense.
Carriers were supposed to be a KDF thing ONLY. Anything involving fighters was supposed to be KDF ONLY. They gave feds Carriers (Atrox, and then the Recluse), and then they gave them a high DPS ship with fighters (Armitage). STOP. Seriously. Let the KDF have SOME things that are KDF only. The flight deck cruiser is one of the few things that the KDF have left that are theirs and theirs alone.
So stop being a typical fed and whining that you want something the KDF has.
Or better (speaking from my KDF toon here): you can have your flight deck cruiser when we get raptors that can carry fighters, or even better, raptors that can cloak (wait we can already do that), and have 5 tac consoles (nope, don't have that yet). Or when we get science ships. Or when the Chuck Norris Class Battleship (basically a jet black Oddy with an impulse modifier of 200, turn rate of 90 degrees per second, shield modifier of 5.0 with 10 shield generators, infinite hp with a base passive defense of 30% to avoidance and damage reduction, 10 weapon slots fore and aft, 20 of each console type that have no diminishing returns and is armed with roundhouse-kickarrays that use up 0 energy and do 60k damage per shot (before applying skills) with infinite accuracy bonus and 360 degree firing arc with a range of a couple light years) is put into this game.
Or I can just say what most KDF players would say in a single two letter word.
NO.
This is exactly what i was going to say mostly so i will just quote :P
For instance "KDF uniqueness is being sold out, I want a sci ship." That there highlights the general misunderstanding. If you don't get it the KDF has the BOP somthing the fed side doesen't have. In return the feds get science vessels. In fact the KDF can buy science vessels but the feds can not buy a bop like vessel so there ya go.
I think the logic behind that is 'If they're gonna sell out all KDF uniqueness to the Federation, then they need to start giving Fed stuff to the KDF'. It's usually the Feds who start pointing their fingers first demanding a new toy (or, as Soph might say, 'suggesting').
Also, the BoP is quite simply NOT the edge it used to be. Universal boffstations? There are lots of ships out there (especially in PvP) that have 1-2 universal boff stations now. Battlecloak? It was never the edge that the Kirks claimed it to be, it just enables BoP pilots to scurry away a little easier. Turning rate? Useful, but not nearly enough of an edge. There are also several ship types that MOVE faster than a BoP can.
The BoP functions as a mediocre jack-of-all-trades, at best, or a hit-and-run ambusher. Useful, but not an adequate substitute. It doesn't get innate subsystem targeting, it doesn't get a 10-15 point boost to aux, and it tanks less than a sci ship.
So please, don't try to fob off the BoPs as an adequate tradeoff for having sci ships. Maybe 1-2 years ago that might've been the case, but Cryptic has shat all over what edges the BoP used to have to compensate for the reduced stats.
EDIT: Oh, and even in the C-store/Fleet ships the KDF has lackluster options for sci. We JUST got a Fleet sci ship in the form of the Varanus. Our best 'sci ship' is a dilithium-unlocked 'free' carrier that's available at lvl 40. Compare that to the epic amounts of flexibility that the Federation has with sci options (ranging from the MVAE escort to the various sci ships and cruisers with a sci-heavy setup).
My PvP toon is Krov, of The House of Snoo. Beware of my Hegh'ta of doom.
Why all the ******** for a fed FDC? The feds already have some of the best carriers and the game doesnt need anymore pet vessels.
By Kahless's nipples some of the feds in here make the Borg look thifty by comparison.
You got your carriers after years of asking and they are good. Be happy already.
I know in comparison if they say completed the KDF I would extremely happy and may not utter a harsh word again is all Im saying. Be happy that how STO works for you.
The idea that items were "kdf only" was to get people to play the kdf. But people didnt so now they make the. Ships for the fed side because then people spend money on them.
I love my kdf toon. I honestly dont care what the feds get. I just want more stuff. More BoP skins more missions more raptors that actually escorts.
And to the OP i agree. Give me a cruiser that can also launch mini defiants. That would be a blast

I could care less if the KDF got a dedicated science ship. Hell it wouldnt even bother me if they got a free one at every level. Really Im all for having equal fleet sizes and options the biggest differences come in application anyway and the kdf/fed differences still generaly remain is specing and equipment options. Hell my Fleet vor'cha has the same boff layout as my oddy but My vorcha can mount cannons and my oddy can deploy the saucer. They are the same but different. I also have the 1000 day ship on both sides and find that my peng'hu does more damage than my chimera simply because it is disruptor based (and I have leech and polarized disruptors). So again same but different.
