Oberth classes always bugged me, and I have no idea what that massive canoe is underneath it. I swear when I was a little kid i thought that was the top. Good ship for side chars and trainees but not a "these are the voyages" type.
If you scramble the centaur/miranda/shikar enough times you get a weird saucer with all the nachels clumped with the hull beneath the saucer with zig zag pylons. Its like a kid made it!
the b'rel they used to give you to start on level 20 kdf players looks like a b'rel but has strange daimonded wings like arm flab flying in space.
some of the shuttles look pretty bad too particularly the non fed ones
the olympic level things also look awkward especially the clear one. a lot of science ships dont look to pretty and the idea of saving the galaxy in a hospital ship is not that appealing lol.
My vote is for the Odyssey. I know its not the ugliest ship in the game, but the simple reputation attached to its name makes it uglier. The Odyssey does NOT deserve to carry the name Enterprise

Tal Shiar ships are the ugliest of all by far, but we probably should have started a new thread though.
It's not their fault, you can blame the Narada for that. The Romulan-Borg ship that looks nothing like anything Romulan or Borg. They just went, "Sticking a ton of random spikes on things makes them super scary, right? right guys? guys? hello?":P Cryptic just took it to the next level. EXPONENTIAL SPIKAGE!
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
I've never been fond of the DSSV, but I'd have to choose the Stargazer skin. I think it's a good design, but that loop at the back of the hull just... I just don't like that - it's completely pointless.
Actually, I take that back. The Shi'Kahr variant. I. Hate. That. Skin.
First off, I'm not going to talk about KDF or ROM - they all look the same to me.
Anyways, IMO, the ugliest ships on the FED side that are playable are all the Escorts, except for the Tempest & Derish Classes because they have saucers.
Also the Envoy & Celestial Classes. The Envoy's body looks like a skeleton. And the Celestial looks like someone tried making a Galaxy-Class with Ambassador and Constitution parts.
For non-playble, the Typhoon & Jupiter Classes. Jupiter looks like a tug boat. The Typhoon with a quad engines just doesn't seem right in my eye.
Also, this piece of TRIBBLE that kamiyama317 pointed out eariler, now that I've seen it and still don't beleive it: http://sto.gamepedia.com/File:Redacted_Exploration_Cruiser_Variant.jpg
Seriously, what were they smoking? = /
This thing no only looks like it was made with LEGOs, but that imcomplete neck looks like something you see on an old school 8-bit video game or Atari 2600. The whole shape looks like the Lock-Ness Monster as it peaks over the water!
It's definitely one of the upper top ten IMO. Some different pylons would do wonders with that ship IMO.
There are many stinkers out there, i think the old Fleet Escorts are some of the most ugly ones.
But we shouldn't forget the Avenger, the sad thing about that ship is, it could look really good but the saucer looks way too delicate compared to the rest of the ship. A more bulky and wider saucer would make that ship look way better. So it's not really the ship that looks bad it is rather one single ship part that ruins the whole look of it.
The same story with the Chimera Heavy Destroyer. While the ship itself looks ok, that Belly (where the deflector is) looks totally out of place and ruins the whole look of the ship.
If it where placed a bit more to the rear and would be bit smaller, it would much better IMO.
I was really surprised by the Dyson Science Destroyers. While the KDF and ROM ones look nice in their own way, the federation versions look totally awful IMO.
They look just like some pumped up Cryptic-ized Intrepid/Luna class
Some other (older) ship designs still make me cringe when i see ppl using them. Especially the Imperial (assault Cruiser) looks totally out of place for a Starfleet ship IMO.
But i have to admit its Nacelles look really good when used with other Assault Cruiser ship parts.
Althrough not a Cryptic designs, there are two more ships i have to mention.
First: the Excelsior/Sovereign
Wow seeing that ship was really shocking at first, it looked like a deformed and fat Constitution. But to see the new (then) Enterprise being a modernized, flat version of it made me want to hug a toilet. The sad thing about the Excelsior is that with some minor modifications that ship could look really good.
Second: the Galaxy -X.
Man i really hate how they just slapped some guns on it and that stupid goofy looking third nacelle. All its modifications totally ruin the look and the lines of the Galaxy Class.
That ship looks like a 5 year old was trying to make a Galaxy Class look "cool".
If they wanted to create a "cool" looking version of the Galax Class they just had to add the phaser gun and maybe a more sturdy looking neck and some even flatter nacelles IMO.
In my opinion Cryptics ship designers try too hard to come up with something unique instead of just creating something that looks good. Starfleet ship designs have to be a bit conservative in their own way IMO. If some parts are to exaggerated or the whole shape isn't balanced well, the ship looks bad.
Another thing that makes good looking Starfleet designs stand out is the absence of greebles.
Most good looking Starfleet designs tend to have smooth surfaces and are more round instead of being angular IMO.
Sorry for typos.
PS:
Lol i just noticed that this is a zombie thread...

That advanced escort variant with the really fat saucer, Phoenix class I think.
It looks like a normal variant that's been over inflated with gas.
The recon sci variant with all the spiky bits sticking out of the back of the hull and nacelles. Just looks TRIBBLE, as if it's lost half of its structure by flying too fast. I think it's a Polaris class it or something?
Also that defiant variant with the two little horns that stick out the front, it just looks like some really bad TOS ship that's been stuck in as a variant without much thought.

who do so many hate the Odyssey Star Cruiser its beautiful and no where near ugly, the Avenger looks block y and is by far the worse cruiser ive ever seen.

I beg to differ. The Celestial and the Monarch variants for the Galaxy look much MUCH worse.

The Akira would like to have a word with you, but it's too busy being sexy.
I have to agree. The sugar scoop deflector is really a detraction for me. Patrol escorts are kind of iffy just on looks. They perform well, though.
I do appreciate the work of the artists who designed these ships, though.
Gallant
Envoy
Celestial Up close this thing is even worse.
However be glad that this monstrosity never made it into the game:
