I really like your idea with eng team. you have 5 sec to get the heck out or do something. This would add more use to a team other than tt. That can also be dependent on eps, power levels would restore faster or slower. About your formula, it's a great idea for teams but individually I think the drain is a little small. And I'm back to "no idea" scenario, lol, other than put an energy drain cap which I'm personally against by principle.
If the drain is too small, the best thing about the formula is all you need to change is that 0.1 number to something slightly higher to achieve a better drain. The point of the forumla was to show that you can use Power Insulators in better way to mitigate the drain effect from abilities that Drain subsystem power.
Here is and example:
Assume Flow Cap @ 252%
Assum Insulator @ 79%
Duration 10seconds
Assum 100 Aux.
X = 0.15 * (252%-79%) * 100/10
X = 2.59 or 25.9 over ten seconds
All I changed was 0.1 to 0.15 and I got went from 17.3 over ten seconds to 25.9 So you see, all things equal, to tweak the drain effect we would only have to play with the base drain value.
Also note, that if the duration is effectively Zero, like it is with Beam Target abilities, you would have seen -25.9 to that subsystem once the shot landed a hit.

It was a good idea to combine the threads even though it is often annoying how they get mixed together. Thank you.
I say old chaps, this siphon pod business is just not cricket. It's a fair cop to say I've run them myself. Strewth, I'm a bit shagged out by all this "Steady on, lads" and "Stiff upper lip" bollocks from those what say just clear them. As soon as one round is cleared it's chocks away on the next batch, with nary a shot fired at the carrier proper.
As for me, I stopped running them for pity of the blighters getting drained. Plus, after a go with a drain build I was bloody knackered of my "Good show lads" at match completion being met with chavs calling me a right Berkshire Hunt.
Resistances are buggered with most every sci CC being bollocks but drains from drones being the mutt's nuts. Time was, I had to stack drains from multiple sources and cut frightfully into my dps to do it. Now it's slot the drones, and Bob's your uncle, with everything else running dps tickety-boo.
Ta, mates.

One can't just complain about siphon pods in all honestly, and completely ignore the issue with danubes + TB as well. They are both a huge issue. To complain about one and ignore the other is just wrong.

Then start a new thread about it.
Biggest difference siphon drones and TB at least with TB you can somewhat (I say loosely) counter. Using PH/APO/TBR(yes tbr)/epte w/evasive /psw
At any rate I tend to avoid FvK. A trend I have been carrying on since they introduced carriers.

They are indeed both a very significant issue, and even as a predominantly federation player, I'll be among the first to say that the danube runabouts are still over-the-top when it comes to tractor beam spam. Pets in general (Fer'jai frigates with aceton / trico spam come to mind as well) need a serious balance pass for PvP.
They nerfed the Danubes by allowing only one of them to be active with their tractor beam within a certain radius, so that you could escape with an accordingly set up build.
To offer another alternative to running away or destroying them (and also in addition the certainly needed investigation of why resistances don't work), why not just limit them to 1 siphon being active in a certain radius?
A ship so small stopping a large ship breaks my immersion.

The problem with that I think is that unlike the Danube which pretty much reduces your ability to move unless "something" is not on CD, energy siphon can be outrun.
Also, resistances against the Danube are also not working as intended. I specced for PH II (amongst others) & wasted points in my abilities and still it did nothing from preventing me from getting caught.
And I am not sure about the one tractor thing either. There is usually more than one on me at a time. And if not, the same with the ES, I immediately get caught by the next batch, even with resistances in effect.
It's a difficult balance ES IMO. Power levels are affected by so many things. One small change to ES and it's either grossly OP, or a complete useless power. The middle ground is very difficult to find.
Limiting it to just one "launchable-in-effect" would be problematic for a number of reasons. ES does not have any innate weapon like Danube's, so essentially you are launching 1x fighter? What's the point of that?
I believe that the devs need to look towards the speed at which ES affects its prey. Like the ES which needs to travel from a player's ship to the target, ES pets ES need to do the same, and the launch of the pets could be staggered. That way the KDF pilot gets the full potential of the ability, but the target gets the valuable time to counteract the ability, IMO
And I'm speaking as a 2yr veteran carrier pilot. Can't believe what I just confessed to
the drones need to act like the drain tykers has, its drains you down so much per stack, and then stops. drones just seem to drains you down so much per stack, per second, and every second drain as if they didn't already drain you. and then theres 5 of them on you.
thats broken, it doesn't mater how many faux counters you can think up to smugly take them out in theory, that is a broken mechanic. i sure hope no one builds an anti drone ship and brings it to pvp, i wouldn't want such a useless ship on my team.
Perhaps if the drones were a sort of "kamikazee" bomber
Have them implode against the targets hull sending "energy wake" across the ship. One pulse per drone. Could make for quite an impressive FX don't you think?
I think that we need a resist (like insulators for example) that would exponentially resist the drain. This way it's no cap, we also can stack the drains but will never run out of power (even if left power would be 3-5 to a system. [edit: Even better, make drain less and have a proc to shut down a system (no shield)]. Thing is I'm not sure it will help outrunning the siphons once you are max drained, unless an engi team or ep to x would boost the power slightly more to allow an evasive out.
Cmdrskyfaller also has a point, it's not that you need to stay and watch how the power siphons are getting to you. With tractor pets, avoiding them is harder, especially their phaser proc.
All in all, there should be some resist to siphons. Somehow. Lol. And a reduced phaser proc or some counters to it. I don't mind the tractors as I mind the phaser procs. Maybe take away shield disable from them. Phasers would be annoying enough even without that and would still make them a fearful weapon.

As you can see Resistance doesn't work, and no amount of bonus power into a given subsystem works either.
Once they get on you, you're done.
The really sick part is it takes longer to kill a spawn of advanced pods, than it actually takes to spawn in new fresh groups.
Things like Warp plasma (which are not power dependent) do not work, because they are movement related and at 9 engine power or less you aren't going to be able to create a good enough cloud to grant your team breathing room.
FAW will only work for the first few seconds, and due to it's miss rate likely will not kill the first wave of advanced pods, and once they get on you, the drain will further mitigate faws already low damage #s.
CSV is utterly dependent on your DHCs being in arc, and unless the carrier is being a complete idiot, he'll tractor you, evasive and then pod you once you are out of prime arc. Once you lose your engine power, CSV and Torp Spread, both quit being effective.
Now, throw on Tykens Rift 3s, and VMs into the mix and you have just crippled an entire team with 2 to 3 ships, for longer than it takes to actually kill the enemy.

Anytime. I also have the other mav testing videos still on hand as well, showing how badly inertial dampeners doesn't work.
Nothing will be done about either of these of course, because they probably have to fix a sign over some admirals door again, or change some uniform pips.

Siphon drones aren't whats OP its Danubes that are.
Actually Danubes aren't Quite as bad. Mind you that's like saying, a pair of handgrenades isn't as bad as a couple sticks of TNT to have shoved up your backside but still. At least with Danbues, you can actually kill them once they hit the field, and steal heal team mates, or set up zone denial.
Look at the video posted above and please say that again The danube is in the same league as the siphon drones.
If the siphon drones were say from a scale of 1 to 10, 10 in OP, the danubes would be a 9 as you still have "some" fighting chance.
Naz, these people who keep trying to say that they can handle Siphon Drones builds and etc. have probably really not faced off against it.
So hey, want to build a couple stupid OP Drain ships and team up in some PUG matches for
say three weeks or so? Maybe if we demonstrate the point they will finally come to terms that we are in fact correct? Heck, we should even go in Kerrat between matches and toy with people there. The Borg can do the killing and we can do the draining.
/Sigh?
Obviously, everyone in the team will have to have some kind of counter of that kind. EWP works for protecting yourself.
My advise would be to be faster than the drones. That way, you do have enough time to remove them, and for doing damage to the carrier, too.
Wait, why are you in tractor beam range? Seriously, I wonder why anyone going against power drain carriers would do that?
No it doesn't. The pods can still safely drain you even if they get into the cloud. It takes all of a handful of seconds to lose enough engine power to completely stall out, even when feeding engine batteries into the mix. Also, those "protective measures" don't actually work since every single one of them has a longer CD, than the spawn rate of siphon pods does.
You're going to bet into 5km or less ranges if you're serious about using Cannons. Otherwise they will do nearly effectively 0 dps. Not only this, but then there are the other ships on the field to consider, a pair of tractors on a bop for example will be adequate to get you stuck and out of prime arc. Torp Spread has a 90 degree arc period. And the best time to use it is when the pods are already on the field. Same deal with CSV. Both of which are only good for clearing the first wave of pods if you are lucky.
That or, the carrier (particularly the Karfi) is fast enough with an evasive to get there. target your engines, then hit you with tractor and out come the pets.
That's to say nothing of VM3 being on the field, or Vm1 and TR3s either.
Staying 20+ km away from the carriers is the only effective counter, in Real pvp. 1v1 and 5v5 are two different ball games, and even in 1v1, a siphon carrier will eventually get his pods on you, and drain you completely dry, if he doesn't blow wang.

Thanks for the offer though. Dont want to go down that route in case i TRIBBLE others off.
On another note just run into Tuq Heghta in the ques after they've been beaten with skill and see what they crack open afterwards....... Theyre justification would be " You beat us" to run the full drain build team.
Soph, face that and i'm sure your counters advice will be thrown out of the window.

Maybe we shouldn’t punish everyone… how about we invite the guys that claim to know how to beat it only. Then, when their FAW, CSV, EWP, PSW, GW, TBR and all of that fun stuff ultimately fails to keep it under control… and they ultimately fail to kill us, we can have a proper discussion with them about why they are OP in PVP.

I like most zorenas comments related to video.
