People still spam zone chat to this day looking for teams, so no, this isn't what it was added for. Yes, I do remember the days before the public queue system. I also remember I never saw a single leecher back then because you teamed with people you knew, not some random group of players you're tossed into an event with.

Oh you could still team with people you didn't know... The big difference was, when you did get a leecher, you simply added them to your ignore list, and you never had another problem with that player.

Eventually the leeches were left spamming zone with LFT, LFG... because people wouldn't team with them....

The queue system has removed the social aspect of the game. I really dislike it.

Seriously recommend joining channels such as FleetEvent, TeamFind, or similar. More people means faster team building, and most likely a lot less leeching.

You're making the assumption everyone on a team doesn't know each other or is not in the same fleet. Were we able to name fleet names here, I can tell you of at least 3 I know of that will abuse this. They'll take 1 or 2 "fillers", then kick them from the group before the reward is dropped.

if teams are going to be immature and yes abuse it like you think and really not saying it will not happen but dont you think a punishment should be giving to them immature ppl?

    i do

And who gets to define what "immature" is? In the example I cited, all that fleet would need say is the person wasn't "following the group" or "leeching" or whatever other excuse they want to come up with.

GM know all see all that a fact for just about any mmo and they can look up combat log just as easy as you hit the tab for it in you chat box for it

how you think macro bots get banned in eveonline?

and im not going to lie the way some of you are so dead set against a vote to kick in my opinion i think your the ones causing the problem and dont want your free rides interrupt be the leecher thing to do

And people could also say those so in favor of it want it to abuse other players with it. That door swings both ways. ;)

I don't see this as a necessity because it will get abused and anyone can find good people to team with if they put forth the minimal effort to do so. If you'd like to be lazy and anti-social, you should live with that decision and accept the consequences.

like i said in one of my post this type of game play behavior both ways dont in my opinion dont encourage new players to stay and returning player to stay and if keep going unchecked i dont see a two bright of a future for this game

You're assuming this is the position every new/existing player will take. It's not. Some will of course. Others will seek out active fleets, socialize, make new friends and team up with people they know. Those who do aren't going to have any issues with leechers.

You're also neglecting to take into account any negative impact a vote-to-kick system would have on new players. Using your example; the first time some new player gets kicked from an event because they don't have the right gear, don't understand the encounter, aren't piloting the "correct" ship etc., they're going to leave.

this is my thing i dont see it get any more abused then the report spam dose and if you look at the forums it not happening every day with the forums being blow up with "i got reported spaming even though they didn't deserve it" not saying it dose not happen

If people are scared of being "abused" by a vote kick system, then form your own groups.
....oh, wait, no, that idea won't work for "certain people" because you can't leech in private groups!

They really need to have a boot ability, sure yes some people will grief and be asses, but IMO the ability to get rid of leeches outways the grief.

Obviously should be a majority vote so people just can't randomly boot someone.

I'll echo what I said about this topic in another post...

    Report to GM

Idling while others do the work counts as griefing in my book.

I encourage everyone to do the same.

I then send the player a tell "You've been reported to a GM for being Idle during a match"

^I've seen people move only after getting this PM from me.

I do agree an option to boot people would be great, majority vote of course. The community as a whole are trying to grind marks, it's a small group that are idling. Till a fix is put in place, I will continue to report idlers to a GM.

A majority vote may be abused though.

"Oh, well this guy is in a cruiser! He must be useless, let's boot him and get an escort in!"
"Yeh man, cruisers are so useless, boot him"
"I agree, every match I've been in, they don't really do anything"
"I hate the Odyssey, boot him"

    *boot*

^People like this will abuse the system, and plenty of innocent people will suffer as a result.

P.S. To cruiser-haters: Nothing wrong with cruisers! People can set them up for effective damage output in PvE too.

Im not bothered by the queue leechers, but the crowd of them around Jula on defera does have a negative effect on other players.

I have to set the camera so it doesnt look at them if when turning in missions to him or my fps through the floor.

and that one actually has a simple fix

We currently have no system and its being abused.

My science ships and cruisers have never been called useless in any instance. I personally wouldn't boot a person based off ship. I don't care what anybody pilots, I just care if they help. I believe this is the general mindset of the playerbase. I personally dislike the Defiant, I think its ugly. But, as long as the pilot is doing something in the match, I wouldn't kick them.

The majority of anti-anything that's not an escort are in public STF queues. I've never seen this issue in channels like EliteSTF.

Saying people "will" abuse a group kick feature is speculative. I'm sure a few may very well grief others by group kicking. However currently we're getting griefed by players who just sit there and leech our work.

As long as getting kicked doesn't impose a cooldown timer, I believe this to be a viable option.

    Follow along closely here...

Cryptic, and their lawyers, determine what is and isn't acceptable behavior in Cryptics game and they wrote it up in the TOS.

Idling in an instance is NOT against the TOS that every player agrees to abide by in order to play STO. You, me and the AFKers all agreed to the same TOS.

TOS clearly states that harassing or threatening other players is not acceptable behavior.

And you've admitted that you harass and attempt to intimidate other players by threatening and then reporting them to the GMs.

You're not supposed to violate TOS even when you think you are on the right side of the issue.

If you see something you don't like in game or here on the forums, by all means report it. BUT let those responsible for TOS enforcement, GMs and Mods, do their job of enforcing TOS.

You can't force other players to play their game your way.

You do have the option, the opportunity and the ability to select the individuals that you do want to play with. I think you would have more fun and enjoy the group instances better if you exercised these other options instead of wasting your time harassing, threatening and filing abusive reports on other players that don't play your way. :)

TLDR - either play nicely together or don't play at all together. ;)

At least one instance comes to mind, where the Engineering captain of an Odyssey commented on my friend's Galaxy, saying various things that I cannot mention here.

People may not always boot while saying something in the chat box; in fact, most players don't say anything while in an STF.They may boot players without saying a word at all. (The major exception is PublicEliteSTF, which so far has been the most effective way of fulfilling STFs other than a dedicated premade team.)

Yes, the current system doesn't work. I understand that, and I have had to deal with that as well. But replacing one broken system with another broken system isn't fixing any problems at all.

The people who are causing the current afk leeching problems are the people who just sit there and let others do the work for them, while they sit back and watch or read a book or whatever afk players do. These should be the only audience for which a preventative measure should be aimed towards. An "inactivity timer" is a better option than group booting, since the timer would be run by a computer, which is impartial.

People entering instances where they expect handouts I personally consider harassment.

    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/harassment

According to that definition, idling IS harassment.

It's unpleasant and annoying to do the work for someone who doesn't care to help. When a player hits "engage", its an unspoken agreement to do the mission.

I'm simply reporting players I feel are making my game time unpleasant. I've never threatened someone, I simply report and inform the player. The informing is just to make them aware of the situation if a GM does contact them. I've never sent a tell "do this or I'll report you". I also ask multiple times in team chat if the person is there. There are instances where the person is experiencing a great amount of lag which cannot be helped.

I hope that clarifies my post for you.

TLDR: Harassment is perspective, the Report to GM button exist to report harassment.

We currently have no control of getting stuck with an idler, they profit while the rest of us work. Eventually this will create an environment where this action is acceptable. When the Devs continue an area of silence on this issue, it will encourage growth of the action.

Look how many people are posting in this thread alone complaining about this AFKer issue.

If they all got together and added each other to their friends list then they would probably have enough people to put together a few teams so they wouldn't have to worry about AFKers. ;)

That is until one of them had an urgent need to go to the bathroom, or clean up the big hairball their cat just TRIBBLE up, or their parents or grandparents had a stroke or heart attack or some fine person happened to walk past their window...

If an emergency popped up, playing a game would be the least of my concerns.

I also normally wait till the match ends to report, doing it during the match would cause me to stop doing my job.

The entire match of idling and not replying to tells asking if they're there.

Yes, you DO have control over whether you get stuck with an idler or not. You can control who you game with at any time and at any point in this game. It's a matter of whether you decide to take the easy, lazy way out by joining a PuG, or whether you actually make the effort to gather a team of other players that you can count on. :)

I normally only pug during off hours when most of my Fleet are asleep. Idlers only hit me when I join non STF things. As the EliteSTF channel fills the needs for Omega marks.

    Stay tuned for resolution ;)
