Don't we all know Cryptic are like politicians, they have something working right and then change it and TRIBBLE it up.
I prefer the older version, worked fine and if people can't find them then now are they going to find these ones? I say tell them to look harder and revert to the older ones and use this new animation for something in missions or the foundry etc so work and time isn't wasted.

Okay. I thought the flashing consoles all over my ship were beyond the pale, considering you get a pop-up window when you are within interaction range of any of them and don't -need- to actually know where they are. All it does is break immersion and distract.
Now, apparently, we have players who can't use consoles -even with all of that-. And so, the Devs decide we all have to suffer so that those players who can't figure out where stuff already blasting their eyeballs is, and so they now make it look like my ready room is on fire.
And -still- no option to turn off either the fire or the flashing interact aura. Both of these should have always been an option-to-toggle from the get-go. Why the devs couldn't understand this, I don't understand. Didn't they think people would -want- to be able to ignore such distractions after they memorize where things are?
I put up with the flashing aura, even though it almost makes me want to never use the interior of my ships. But this is beyond tolerable. Did they think we wouldn't notice? That we are as moronic as the players who can't even find a console with a dialogue box popping right up in their noses?
Or maybe they just think the target playerbase for STO is the same as 'that other major sci-fi francise RPMMO game that came out this year'? In other words, that players of their game are incapable of doing anything for themselves and must be led by the nose and spoon-fed their game to avoid actually making them feel uncomfortable?
I haven't seen this effect anywhere else but the kdf academy, but from the aura around the exchange and bank consoles, it's actually pretty nice to look at...almost soothing...like a lava lamp.
Lava... lamp... consoles? Fire? WHAT?!?!? I'll be right back......
EDIT:Dafaq? What is that? It looks like something from Skyrim, or Zelda, Not Star Trek. :P
EDIT: EDIT: Okay, it would make sense around the Precursor or Iconian technology, around everything else it just looks comical. Unless the Iconians are more insidious than we thought.....
Where I work people walk by a sign that says, "Cafe" to enter the building. They then walk by an open double glass door with people standing at a bar ordering food, sitting at tables eating and with the clank of silverware while passing under a sign that says, "Cafe."
They then pass a large window with a chef behind it making baked goods.
They proceed another 50 feet before approaching me at my desk and asking, "Where is the Cafe?"
I am under the impression that when they see someone at my desk they just turn their brains off knowing I will handle the thinking for them, they only need to ask.

Yeah the spikes are annoying I much preferred the cog wheel but don;t expect anything to be done about it after all what the PWE overlords say Cryptic does

We have a horizontal line moving vertically upwards through a console, some of them have a gear wheel symbol. Now if all that isn't enough to attract attention to the available consoles they all have glowing spikes of stuff coming from them, it looks freaking terrible, who the hell thought this up? Remove it please, everyone in the fleet commented on how stupid it looks and how unnecessary they are. What's next, the console jumping up and down doing a dance and shouting out "Over here, I'm the freaking console you need"?

Face Palm and double Face Palm
Looks totally naff, its not like its hard to find interactive consoles!
Agreed. At least the old method looked "tech". The new one just looks like the console is on fire. It really takes away from the atmosphere of the game.
Couldn't agree more. Saw my patcher working today, thought "Hey, maybe they realized they made a mistake and fixed it!", and ran into my ready room as soon as it loaded.
Nope, my table and closet are -still- on fire, and no one from Engineering has put it out yet!
Seriously, who thought this was a good idea? And who didn't think making the interact flash an option toggle would have been a better one? I get really miffed every time I look at my crew and see they all have cellphone attention icons bouncing over their heads, but having things flash like they are irradiated and now spew never-ending flames is really pushing me to avoid my ship interior! Makes me think I'm in a tv advertisement.
I just dunno why they did it. the previous one was fine. this is just stupid.
the previous one was a bit too much too, but at least it looked like it was designed that way. now it only looks, that someone put an animation to a console, that was clearly not designed for it, for no reason
I didn;t mind the spikes of the new File Commendation Report console. That is after all how I discovered it. But the spikes on the rest of them? No, especially considering that they're still unusable.
It has gotten rather ridiculous. First, consoles you could interact with simply glowed as you got closer. Then the glowing turning gears were added. Now we have some strange pulsing aura. Next it will be a disco ball, plus strobe lights, and music will begin to play as you get closer.

I also think they would be better if toned down. So they do not look like there is a plasma fire or something going on in there. Perhaps they are the new Tribble BBQ units?
Still, it's nice that they are looking to make the consoles that are supposed to be more then show stand out, and yes the KDF ones are a royal pain.

Maybe time to go look for a new game, if so.

No one ever cuts the Operations division any slack.
Fix the replicators, Chief. My console's on fire, Chief. I should've transferred to a cargo drone. No people, no complaints.
