That aft section/hull is really nice (from what I can see) - Can we please have images that... expand when clicked on? *searches for the magnifying lens*
Ship Artist Ian "JamJamz" Richards shares details about the process behind designing the upcoming Regent Class Assault Cruiser in this entry of the Season 6 News Dev Blog series.
It's the Sovereign refit. It's been asked for multiple times.
Ambassador was asked for longer tbh. It was asked for way back before there was a need to have a Sovi refit since that was the highest tier in the game.

Good looking ship. Not sure if its better than the stock Sovereign, but good still good looking. More interested in what the special C-store console will be... that will determine if I buy this or not.
Gonna have to agree with diogene0. We have cruisers, upon cruisers, upon cruisers, and the thing is, cruisers are a very "aquired taste" for playstyle, due to the beamboat / battleship / USS Missouri type of combat and the ultra-hindered manueverability.
I'd be much more inclined to play on a regular basis if we had some more options. Awhile back, I made a suggestion for a "middle-weight combat cruiser" which would be approximately the size of an Intrepid, with a cruiser type styling (saucer, neck, primary hull, pylons & nacelles) and a tactical loadout. Basically a stepping stone between full blown escort, and whale cruiser. Not to mention it would give tactical players a different look which doesn't exist in the Escort line, since either you have to fly a fighter jet wannabe, or a 4 nacelle frankenstein.
Essentially a more survivable Tactical Alternative. More survivability than an Escort, and more powerful than a Cruiser. Less Survivable than a cruiser, less firepower than an escort. A true hybrid.
Why can't we get some hybrid type ships? Why do the ships have to be distinctly Escort, or distinctly Whale Cruiser, or distinctly Science? You guys placed STO in the 25th Century so you could have some freedom of creativity. So why aren't you exercizing that freedom?
Border Patrol Mid-Size cruiser FTW!
Oh, and Sci needs some major love too. Those guys really don't have much in the way of options.
We've got more than enough cruisers.

I'm thinking maybe pancakes." ~ John Casey
yet another c/z-store ship... if cryptic will ever release some ship that is useful for free? (the default odyseey doesnt count as it just sucks)
oh and by the way.. i am already waiting for the day when this ship comes out, every bad player is getting hands on and i see STFs failing again because they are just standing there and do useful things like "firing at one generator only","defending kang",... things nobody really needs. Oh.. and of course fire at will 3 with rainbow style on ISE, destroying all the tactics
smaller ships would be better, too much big one?s BUT everybody asked for a sovereign refit and they now make one. your guys own fault.
Not bad. Not bad. I like the stardrive dorsal, that's actually sexy. Though I must say I wish for the John Eaves Final Sovereign Model or at least the parts.
This is not to knock the design (most people take that sarcastically, but I DO like this ship). But as the type of geek that buys all the behind the scenes stuff, I remember from the Art of Generations and First Contact, that this is very similar to one of the original versions of the Sovereign that John Eaves did, with forward swept pylons. It was almost the final version until one of the producers, Rick Berman I think, looked at it from the top view and said, it looks like a chicken in a pan. And no one could take it seriously after that. The thing is....I LOVED that version too. So in my subconscious I was always hoping to see it in game. How about that?
Second,
I want an assault cruiser with the survivability of a cruiser and the firepower of an escort. I don't really need the turnrate of the escort (not that I'm opposed), leave that different (if you feel it's absolutely necessary)....but let me hit Hard. And an escort that can hang in the fire fight (remember the time the Defiant tanked Jem Hadar ships with no shields, that happened a couple of times), I mean the ship was designed to fight the Borg...which means a long haul battle. (See the Battle of Sector 001) (shutting p about canon now, carry on) would be nice as well.
Third,
All that said....what is the performance on this bad girl? What kind of consoles and stations are we working with?
"Rise like Lions after slumber, In unvanquishable number, Shake your chains to earth like dew, Which in sleep had fallen on you-Ye are many they are few"
"It's also one of those old art school things. As an artist you're determining where you want the viewer's eye to go. I was trying to demonstrate speed, no matter where you look at the ship. Anything pointing forward would draw your eye and make the ship look fast. Even if it's parked it looks fast."
A considerable amount of work was done on this version of the design. "We explored it all the way to putting windows and panel line breakup on it. Mr. Berman saw it and he kind of liked that direction, so we kept going. Then we started doing the top views and Fritz [Zimmerman], who is one of the set designers, came over. He said, 'You know, if you look at it like this, it looks like a big turkey in a pan!' And he was right!
We laughed, and when we told Herman he said, 'Oh, my gosh! Get rid of that.' "Putting the struts back said, 'This is an Enterprise.' It had that really nice feel that the A had. From there Mr. Berman really liked it. He put notes on it like 'lower the nacelles,' 'bring the body down a little bit.' Really specific notes like that, but he said, 'This is pretty much it.'"
So, thanks for the turkey! Can I have some apple sauce for it?
On a serious note... she lacks the 'cohesive' design of the Sovereign. She's trying to be too many things, and looks... well... She's lost the grace of the ship she's built to replace. The long lines are gone, and we've been given a half-way between the Noble and the Odyssey.
I'll probably still get her and - like others here - do a kit bash, but... Yeah. Sorry man. I don't think you've quite hit the mark on this one.
The wierd thing is that these new ships look great although they are all federation and none KDF. So if you want to look good but be crappy as far as gameplay you go fed... If you wanna be awesome and fly around with things that look like a pile of metal that got some paint cans thrown at it... you play KDF.
Its been long enough I think there needs to be some KDF stuff...K'vort bops, ferasan and orion escorts, nausicaan flight deck cruiser, and possibly a negh'var retrofit like the sovy just got.

...Assuming the stats are good.
The name CERTAINLY has nothing to do with Kate Mulgrew's role on Warehouse 13...

1. Turn rate
2. Boff layout
3. Console/ ability
4. Hull strength
Cryptic like they say in temporal mechanics don't TRIBBLE this up.......again

Actually, what might be nice would be a "Klingon Season," where they add all their planned content and lots of new ships. How cool would that be?

Not very. I prefer my Federation character.
I quite like the look of the Regent class - will be interesting to see how it combines with the other Assault Cruiser components.
Forward-swept nacelles? John Eaves has a thing or two to say on that:

Turn rate will be around six to eight.
After buying the Science Odyssey from the c-store, I learned a valuable lesson form the experience.
Do not invest in floating bricks.
Even though this may have a strong hull, the ship is going to be a paper weight in space.
Subsequent question...
And I would take back everything I said if you say yes...
...Will mixing parts prevent me from using the 2409 skin? As that is still the case with the Venture, Sao Paulo and Armitage...
