Cryptic has messed up big time here. People are already annoyed at the cost of the new fleet ships and the fact they are per charactor unlocks, adding these EV suits like this just adds more fuel to the fire. I understand the logic, they want rich people to buy multiple ones and put them on the exchange so they can raise enough EC to get lockbox items (a strategy more people are using now), but I refuse to accept it. Every single art asset that is added to the game now becomes an item to sell (new Tholian NPC ships - lockbox), its quite clear now, more so from the pricing that Cryptic has lost all contact with thier morals (was bad enough with the lockboxes that are borderline illegal in some countries).

Is STO on its way down? Is the reason they are double dipping so much right now because they feel STO is going to collapse and they want to get as much money now as possable before it does? It just feels like thier current buisness model is not based on repeat customers anymore, since it keeps burning people.

It's sad that after been apart of this community for several years, my love of the game is close to been all but gone, I don't wan't to play a ship collecting game, I want a Star Trek MMO, I don't want to get told 'but they have to make money' when they still DO have a subscription model in place! There comes a point when a buisness is no longer just making money, they are just fleecing the customer and in the end, companies that make thier customers feel abused almost always go out of buisness...

Very sad day in STO's history... :-.(

Correction: PWE doesn't value or respect it's customer base. Cryptic does, but has to follow their orders, and thus appear to have that mentality, but it's laughably absurd that you could think Cryptic is like that.

And before anyone responds to this, keep in mind that I've been with STO since Open Beta, and I still support Cryptic (And you all know that's saying something). Not PWE though.

    That is all ;)

I'm sorry, but this just reminds me of the phrase "We were just following orders". What Cryptic is doing is wrong and they are severaly damaging whatever reputation they have left. I find it hard to believe that no one in the Cryptic building has any control at all over anything in STO anymore. It just remeinds me of 'The year of hell' where everyone blamed Atari for everything that was wrong, it just feels like no matter goes wrong in this game, its always someone elses fault, not Cryptics, I don't buy that anymore.

I think there's more options than that. For example the marketing team could be on something, or just mind boggingly stupid. Seriously, how do you reach 700 Zen as a good price? I can go in right now and buy a costume for 550 that gives me more options, and is account wide and then buy the melee weapon pack which is a single character unlock for 300 and end up only 150 over the price of the EV Suit. Do they even want people to buy this? I mean it's gotta take a whole new level of chump to buy into this. I'm not saying they don't exist, it's just hard to imagine building a viable business model off of convincing people to pay more for less.

IMHO and I can only speak for myself, this is just more worthless stuff. Sadly the thing I was liking most -- the FE's-- have gone the way of the Dinasuars. For me that is just sad.

Yes, the per character price of 700 Z is overpriced; I will possibly get two (one for my first FED and KDF), but that is it. It is just a vanity item and is definitely not worth buying any more than two. Add more or reduce price then I will consider more in the future.

But it is funny how the they wait till the last min. to do the patches and seems like they aka PWE is more worried about selling stuff and to make a buck rather then fixing what is BORKED . allmost feels like there are trying to milk us before they sell ????

    just something to ponder

Cryptic, you do realize that Champions Online (Cryptic's other MMO) offers account-wide costume unlocks for 475 zen. Why is Star Trek Online so much more expensive?

Indeed it's like they are trying to kill this game. 250 Zen for an account unlock, or 500 Zen for both as an account unlock would be better. No way in hell am I playing 700 Zen I have 16 characters.

Really PWE/Cryptic, don't you get it, if you sell account unlocks or single unlock things really cheap you'll make more money in the long run as more people will buy these things as they are more value for money, only a select few I can see wasting money on this. First the Fleet Ships and now this, you really are getting greedy and like ripping off your customers. Everytime I think you can't stoop any lower you show me there are no limits to your greed.

As a casual player who lives from paycheck to paycheck, They are putting the game out of my price range at this point...

It took me 5 months to save up for the LTS while I was also paying the monthly fee...

I thought the game was worth it back then but lately, with everything being priced on the high side, I've had to cut way back on my STO expenditures...

Shame really, the game is still kinda fun fun to play, but it's becoming a "keeping-up-with-the Jones' ", type of thing and I'd rather eat and put gas in the car, than attempt to play what is essentially becoming a money-pit.

I've been a monthly subscriber for 548 days.

Just a moment ago, I cancelled that subscription. It is very obvious that Star Trek Online is a sinking ship.

The price for this suit is just insanity. Insanity.

I am more then sure that a lot of us have heard about the new EVA suits, but if not we did get a new dev blog today on the first contact EVA suits. they are two combat new EVA suits, and I won't lie. when I saw it my mouth started the water for it.

That was until I saw this on the dev blog!
Note: This item is a Character unlock that can be traded or sold on the Exchange. If you discard, sell, trade or use a Federation Combat Environmental Suit, you will NOT be able to claim a free replacement from the C-Store.

So it is a single character unlock, and if you lose it. that wouldn't be so bad if it was 200 zen or 100 zen. but at 700 zen is it right to still get an item and have it a one time unlock.

which this seems to be the trend that STO heading full steam a head. Season 6 has been full of it. Just look around. A T5 ship that would unlock for an entire account cost nearly the same as an retrofit that cost the same for an account wide unlock, but instead is a one time character only.

So my question is this players of Star Trek Online.
Is this fair to the fan base?
Is this fair to you as a player?
Do you feel like you would get your money's worth paying this much?
Should you drop 7 dollars, or 20 dollars on items they only unlock on only one character, and only unlocks once?
Also how much do you think the new EVA suit should be priced?

Personally I don't like where this is going. I understand cryptic needs to make money, but at the same time they need to produce a product that is worth buying. these new fleet modules, and this new EVA suit to me personally is not worth the price. honestly the only reason why I would buy it is to make energy credits selling it on the exchange. that to me seems like the only real use for these items. But for a T5 ship, or as a new suit of vacuum sealed armor. It isn't worth the price. the product is not worth the amount of money asking for it.

Per-Character Unlocks are getting too rich for my blood in terms of both time and money. STF grinding, Lobi collecting, Box opening, etc etc.

I hoped the z-store would be the one place where account unlocks were a good value for your money. Guess not going forward.

I've decided to just stop grinding or buying the same items for multiple characters. It's just not worth it to me.

I think they have confused everyone by using the word "unlock".

It sounds more like a purchasable item like a Skill Boost or Lock Key.
If you sell it on the exchange, you can't 'relaim' it, you will need to purchase it again.

This means you just need to buy it again.
you will NOT be able to claim a free replacement from the C-Store.

All i have to say was really been said numerous times in this thread before, but i guess it cant hurt to post it again and use my right as an individual player & customer, to voice my opinion on this.

First of all: A very nice job @ art team! I love both suits, and really want the First Contact one. For a long time actually. The Blog post was spot-on. I had the small hope that this EVA suit maybe unlocked at a higher Starbase Tier, but on the other hand was almost certain that this is an item that literally screams for a business opportunity.

As i saw the picture with the EVA suits on the main STO page, i was like: "YES! Finally." :)

I read on, all sounds good, until i saw the price, thinking: "That's really steep (again)." :(

I read on again, and saw that it's a character unlock too, and thought: "No way!"

Would you please try to turn this smiley progression around again?

I would pay the price for an account unlock & the ability to get the EVA suits for all of my BOffs. Scrap the ability to trade it in this case. If that is out of the question, then lower the price.

In any case, something has to happen.

On a lighter note, i think i know who would even spend 60,-$ on this ... :D

Someone needs to issue a drug test to whoever is setting prices for character unlocks that are only claimable once. 100 would of been reasonable, 700 out of your mind.....unless it is a character unlock, and at that point no more than 350 would be a reasonable price.

Thank you, and please stop the insane greed that plagues and tarnishes the Star Trek Universe its getting old and poor Gene Roddenberry is rolling over in his grave right now over stuff like this.

Far too expensive for a single character, single item unlock.

Account wide small craft unlocks are 200 zen cheaper than this, account wide lower tiered ships are only 50 zen more, playable species unlocks are 100 zen cheaper. I could actually buy the Oddysey pack and outfit all my fed toons in oddyseys for cheaper than outfitting them all with these EV suits. I could upgrade all my toons current ships with fleet versions for 200 zen less per character.

All this, and these EV suits STILL hide my toons faces so they still end up looking like generic power rangers.

    Oh Wow!

Look... we all knew this would come since the Chinese Overlords at Perfect World acquired Cryptic... we all knew this will turn 180? into a fullblown asiagrinder sooner or later...

This is just part of the beginning...
Soon enough there will be single Phasers, character unlock of course, in the Store... and soon enough the stuff in the store will give you a huge advantages and soon enough there will be pink, not really anything more then a censoring bar kind of armor (for females) in the store and so on...

The forum provides a sample selection of players, I don't believe there will be many in the fleet I belong to buying any of these, of course I haven't asked them all though.

Unless there is a silent majority of players who will fork out for several suits, I would say what I said was accurate

I wouldn't mind more pink, it'd be welcomed by me.

so we have to pay to actually make sto realistic and give us a star trek feeling? it should be the other way around..

the suits that you find everywhere should be in the c-store and the normal starfleet suit should be free. its like someone develops a game called star trek online, let it look like dead space and then says "you want star trek?? ewww.. well.. i give you the items but you gotta pay for it".. oh, well, thats actually like it is, isnt it?
