700Z? Really? I try my best to be optimistic about this game, but this? This is the last straw.
My prediction:
Any more "Character Unlocks" at these prices and I predict that all the Game is gonna die! (which i REALLY don't want to happen. Just make the suits an account unlock for their respective factions, one account unlock for feds, one for klinks, and bump up the price an extra 100 zen. I know I'd pay for it.) No more curtains 1 and 2, just PLAIN CURTAINS!
Okay, now I've had my first rant over price issues with this game, I REALLY like the look of these EV suits, and I really want one for each of my Federation Characters, but I really don't like per character unlocks. They often leave a bigger hole in your wallet than a full yield photon torpedo.

CBS will pull the plug on the license if they continue to see this TRIBBLE being pulled by Imperfect World Extortionist's.
They already see there is a fan base for a STO game and most likely encourage a company that will fullfill the roddenberry legacy in a game that everyone truly can enjoy.
I fortunately had a email back from CBS, they are aware of the downfalls of the recent events but time will tell.
Sorry but I won't be purchasing one of these no matter how cool they look and the coolish specs etc! Price is way too high and it aint even an account wide unlock! It's actually ludicrous to expect us to partake in such a purchase considering the cost and the one per character etc!

This is the internet. Pics, or it didn't happen? Details? Something?
CBS aren't exactly known for handling the Trek IP any better than Cryptic is.

I'd be interested in seeing that email too. In all honesty, I don't see CBS pulling the license as long as they make money off of the game regardless of what Cryptic does.
I spilled my ice-tea when I read this blog. Good luck selling those and thanks to everyone who buys those.
I think gone are the days of account wide unlocks. First Fleet Ships per character ...
But hey, we cannot have STF items as account wide tradable, because there might be a way to exploit it - or simply because we don't pay ca$h for it:rolleyes:
Yeah, that does seem s a bit steep. Then again, they're making up for the lack of monthly subs, and one person buying this even twice just about covers their monthly sub cost (2 x $7).
Except... that's the excuse for monetizing everything with Dilithium. And P2W ships. And lockboxes.
Yeah, that excuse doesn't fly at this point. Like, at all. Especially since they still offer subscriptions. If they still have to scrape the barrel after all that they're doing one has to wonder exactly how badly they are TRIBBLE this game up that after all of it they still aren't making enough money to be viable.
Oh, and if are... then where the **** is all the content this money should be getting us? Seems that most of what we're paying for is more opportunities to be gouged.
Let me toss this idea out there if Cryptic is heckbent on this:
Have the C-Store item be a suit bundle. When opened, it releases suits that become character bound.
Cram 5 suits into the bundle.
This at least makes it seem like a better value.
It would remain a once per character unlock this way. It would allow people to have suits for their away team... which is useless except for the Friday the 13th mission and maybe part of "What Lies Beneath" and Foundry missions if they ever let Foundry authors create toxic damage sources.
So it wouldn't negatively impact number of sales realistically because the extra 4 suits aren't really practical to have since most EV suit content is solo. But it might INCREASE the number of sales since people might want 5 suits for fashion purposes with their Bridge Officer away teams. And 5 suits sounds like a better value than 1.
Seriously, instead of selling 1 suit for 700 ZEN, sell an unbound box that contains 5 bind on pickup suits. It just registers better. It's still not what I'd want and I'm not sure if I'd buy it but it shows more marketing sense.
I could buy this a lot easier if it came with a costume accessed via dropdown like the MACO/Omega Force/Honor Guard sets. That would be pricey but at least have some roleplay value without having to equip a suit.
THIS.
Laws of thermodynamics as applied to life: 0 - You must play the game. 1 - You can't win. 2 - You can't break even. 3 - You can't quit.
Ouch. VERY poor economics on this one. No matter how much I wanted this design--ain't gonna happen, guys.

I guess they figure if people are willing to pay high prices to go watch some of the worst written episodes of a TV show on a big screen just because they made them look prettier that those same people would pay $7 a pop for some of the worst statted gear because it looks pretty.
It's not an Unlock - it's an item purchase like a Skill Boost.
But it should be an unlock, like a ship.
It's stupid to have something like this as a purchase for a single character, the item isn't anything better than what's already in game, it's purely cosmetic. If it's a cosmetic item, it should be a costume unlock and not a piece of armour.
It's nice that those suits will be finally available in game. I too think that 700z is a little too much, but I'm not going to cut my wrist because of it.
I wonder what will be the price on the exchange.

Granted the new ev suits look amazing but honestly there are not many missions to use them in boldly and Nukara are the 2 I know of and with foundry down atm I don't see any new ones coming soon how bout better ship gear or sets or that melee pvp we heard about a wile back cause Andoira is a barren wast land or pop more missions in where this gear would be useful:P
So now you're selling character costumes on a per character basis instead of an account unlock, and at such a reasonable price too.
Less than a month before Guild Wars 2 launches, then I won't even bother checking the forums to see if a miracle happened and our original STO came back. Good riddance Cryptic.
I was about to get cranky about such a pretty space suit coming out when I JUST completed my Tholian set this morning.
Then I saw the price tag. I agree with pretty much everyone here that $7.00 is a bit steep for a per-character unlock for an EVA suit. I would be fine with that price for an account-wide, untradeable EVA suit, but not on a per-character basis.
It's nice that those suits will be finally available in game. I too think that 700z is a little too much, but I'm not going to cut my wrist because of it.

Fleet Module = 500 Zen.
They sell from between 14 to 20 Million EC.
That should give you something of an idea. I'll call it now:
I'd be first in line to fork over 700z if this was a Motion Picture/WoK EV Suit.
Because those suits are awesome!
The Klingon Suit looks cool. But not enough for me to ante up for it. Besides, I worked hard for my Klink's look, I don't want a helmet over that smexy mug.
I feel bad for the art team because those suits are beautiful.
Sorry Cryptic, but $7 for a per-character, non-reclaimable piece of equipment that already has minimal in-game use? Yeah, no. What's doubly insulting is that this is just another example of how little you respect or value your customer base.
I have 7 active characters between the Fed and KDF, if you think I'm going to pay you $49 for these suits then you are sadly mistaken. $7 - $10 for an account wide version would have been acceptable and I would have gladly paid you $14 - $20. As things stand you will be getting $0 from me on these.

Correction: PWE doesn't value or respect it's customer base. Cryptic does, but has to follow their orders, and thus appear to have that mentality, but it's laughably absurd that you could think Cryptic is like that.
And before anyone responds to this, keep in mind that I've been with STO since Open Beta, and I still support Cryptic (And you all know that's saying something). Not PWE though.
That is all
Was named Trek17.
Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.
I was going to quote someone in this thread, after reading each and every post. Yet, oddly, the post I had in mind seems to have vanished.
That said, I'll echo the sentiment I meant to quote. This is bad business, we all (and I mean each every single person that's posted in this thread 'all') recognize that this is bad business. And bad business shouldn't be encouraged.
Just say NO people. Yeah, it's shiny, yeah it looks phenomenal. Yet, it's also pillaging the player-base.
Just say NO and don't give a cent (whether actual or virtual, i.e. Energy Credits et. al.) to such a proposition as this.
Might've been nice if this suit had been packaged with a 'First Contact' kit, including a special Phaser Rifle, Mek'leth and special remodulator, along with the suit bonuses.
Yet, this EV suit, in and of itself, character-bound and all, is simply not worth $7.
Hell, in this gaming market, ya do realize that $7 will buy ya an alright open-world Batman game for your I-Pad? Might not be the best game ever, but it's bound to get a lot more mileage than a character-bound EV suit for your 7 bucks.
JUST SAY NO AND DON'T BUY PEOPLE!!! THEY'LL EVENTUALLY GET THE HINT AND HOPEFULLY COME BACK DOWN TO EARTH!

Cool looking suits. Not worth 7 bucks a toon though. I won't be buying. I have several toons now and if i want an EV suit for all of them I'll just play the last DS9 based FE. I agree with the majority. Should be an account unlock. I'll spend money for something else. Like an Armitage or Odyssey pack. At least all my Feds can use it.

I'm so glad to get rid of that bulky and ugly EV suit
edit.
People are getting upset because they call it an 'Unlock'.
It's purchased as an item just like a Skill Boost, which can be sold on the exchange.

If I had my one toon and four BOffs, does that mean I have to pay 3500 Zen?

Understood. Perhaps I should have worded it differently, but that makes it even worse of a deal.
All that for a standard faction EV suit. Ridiculous.
