Massive White Blobs in Mirror Universe Event

reximuzreximuz Member Posts: 1,172 Arc User
Last night while doing the Mirror Universe event, I noticed two massive white blobs in the space past the station. You can fly to and through them, so they aren't in the background like a star. I don't know if they were an intended change or if there is something wrong, so I thought I'd post here, but I will say they are painfully bright, as in my eyes literally hurt, and they obscured any ships that past in front of them, including their targeting reticles.

I didn't think to grap a screenshot at the time, but if so desired I'll try next time.

If these are intentional I hope consideration would be given to removing them, or at least making them way less annoying.

Some of the Borg encounter missions have them as well. They seem to be pulsars or something and are very hard to look at as they are bright plus they take an excessive amount of gpu power to render. Suggest that the next patch remove them or have the ability to turn them off in the graphics control.

Also occurring in the T'kanis Nebula (ignore the file names... got confused while naming them). They're causing major slow-down during warp-in, so couldn't be in a worse location considering you get shot as soon as you arrive:

And also in the small groups of hostile ships floating around in Sirius:

Yeah I get those in a few DSE and kling nebula's, which make them totally unplayable .

I've been calling for a "Turn all bloom off" mode forever. I would love to have it in response to this c**p.

I saw these for the first time in Red Alerts last night. Very annoying, lost my ship and target more than a few times.

I've been seeing the white blobs in the Red Alerts for several days now. Makes it extremely difficult to play since it slows you way down.
Whatever they're supposed to be they're not necessary at all. Better to just get rid of them if it fixes the problem.

they were originally in the no win scenario on tribble but somehow seem to have escaped to everywhere else.

I get these giant stupid blurry blobs in EVERY SPACE ENCOUNTER. This huge glaring visual bug is at least a month old and not even listed in known graphical issues sticky thread? Look at these screen shots. This is pretty shoddy if something so (1) visually stupid, and which (2) really hinders gameplay, can go completely ignored for so long.

Yeah the following is in the Empire Defense Against: Romulans, Cardassians, and Borg, as shown in the Screen shots.

I have the same issue, seems like any area described as a "nebula" has these blinding white areas that not only hurt my eyes, but causes my FPS to nosedive into slide show mode. So far I've noticed them in the Azure, ChoS, T'kanis nebulas, as well as Borg encounters.

It needs to be fixed ASAP.

Having the same issue here. It's really jarring to go from 50-60 FPS to 6...

Having ZERO fps issues. They look interesting, but hardly fit to appear everywhere.

Turn down your bloom, it may help your eyes.

I've noticed these in the Mirror event. They instantly drag your frame rate down whenever they are on screen, yet as soon are you turn away, everything goes back to normal.

    Really annoying -___-

I may not have the most high end computer out there, but i can at least play this game. I would like to keep it that way.

Still an issue after the last patch.

I found that a lot of the glare and FPS hit goes away, if you go to your options->video->postprocessing, and turning that off. Bloom settings don't seem to make a difference, so I left mine alone.

Just tested "Empire Defense: Romulans" with bloom, light and shadows turned completely off and the white blobs still sent my FPS to hell. Makes it impossible to play the mission efficiently.

My hardware specs are not the problem, as I've had no FPS issues in the past with any of the MMOs I play, up until these white blobs started showing up. I wouldn't say everywhere, but I have seen them in a couple maps.

EDIT - Links to my screen captures (ongoing):

    Azure Nebula (July 15)
    B'Tran Cluster (July 16)
    Azure Nebula (July 19)
Chos Nebula (July 20) <-- Game client froze and crashed after taking this one.
T'Kanis Nebula (July 24) <-- Taken at quite some distance from the spawn point (which is the worst).

    UPDATE [07/22, 2:36pm EDT]:

White blobs now showing in all instances of the "Empire Defense" KDF missions: Romulan, Cardassian, Borg and Federation.

CRYPTIC: please fix this ASAP. Thank you.

    Please remove them ASAP!

I actually think it has something to do with asteroids... I only ever see these giant blobs in maps that have asteroids o.o maybe it happens with other space objects... But I've seen them in multiple deep space encounter maps.

Suffice it to say, HUGE frame rate drops from them.

Edit: Wasn't there a recent patch note regarding a change in Bloom Intensity? I wonder if this change had a negative effect on space object generation. Hmm~

My framerate doesn't take a hit, but they do make the satellite damned hard to find and serve no purpose but to be an eyesore.

in my opinion this issue needs addressing right now. i set my graphics to bare minimum and i still have frame rate lag because of these vile abominations. o and for those who think its a bloom issue, YOUR WRONG!

its a complex multi layered transparent object that also generates its own light source. you add these in with missions where you have over 100 ships flying around. well lets just say cryptic didnt guite think that one through all the way

Given that PVE missions are part of what makes the experience, about 40% of the game is now NOT playable because of what these images do to frame rate. It got so unplayable that I just gave up in the middle of a team effort. Sorry to the team but they don't look like artwork, they look like a TRIBBLE poor job at creating visual object. From an Astronomy standpoint they don't represent anything in real space. They look like my nephew was editing the map with vanilla ice cream.

A response from development on the status of this as a fix is greatly appreciated, Please.

Yes these things are a blooming nuisance! They prevent you seeing what you are doing and cause even high end PCs to lag, get rid of them, also the glowing planets which obscure all graphics in front of them.

Doesn't look like we're gonna get an answer -or fix- any time soon. Neither the issue nor this thread are listed in the Known Issues sticky post, last updated on, um, let's see... 03-29-2012. Yeah.

Thread is now 12 days old and 24 posts long. It also has several screenshots and still not a word from any dev.

    Way to go, Cryptic.

Huh. I thought I was the first to discover this. I really should know better. :P

Anyway, I might as well toss another screenshot onto the pile:

Turning bloom off doesn't fix it for me. Turning bloom intensity down to 0% doesn't fix it for me either. Not looking at it fixes it for me, but that's not much of a fix. ;)

I had this in the Romulan Empire Defense thingy and it pretty much made the map as close to unplayable as you could conceivably get. I have no idea how it crunches such shameful amounts of GPU power (does it use particle effects? If so, why?) and it's obtuse and ugly to boot. No idea what they were thinking.

    I don't think it's particles. I think it's non-optimal layered transparencies . . . with glow.
