Heh. Not the Rachel Garret her was referring to. The Rachel_Garret is an STO player. And HE is a active involved with the STO Foundry (User Created Content).
I have to admit that I bought several of the uniforms and love the hell out of them. I'm rather fond of the Jupiter uniform set. I use it on all my characters and officers. After all, what good is saving the galaxy if I don't look damn good doing it?
Right on. I don't have the TOS pack, but I do have the TOS uniforms. I run them in one of my secondary uniform slots and wear them from time to time when the mood strikes me. Do like the TOS.
Welcome, Ellie, to our wonderful, dysfunctional family! See you around sector space!
LOL I'm now a Lieutenant with Ambassador from Vulcan in the P'Jem Sector trying to fight like a bazillion Kingon Warbirds on my own. I've lost like twice.
Anybody know anyway to defeat the kingons during the mission to P'Jem?
I've only been playing for... 3 hours? It's amazing!!!
Some of the earlier missions are hard or confusing due to a bit of older coding issues and though Cryptic is going back and fixing them as they have time it's not likely that all those missions will be running smoothly or clearly for awhile. It might just be a hard mission and designed to be that way. Some want you to try to dive in and pull out fast catching the attention of only one or two ships at a time so you're not overwhelmed. Some want you to patiently lure the enemy into a group of awaiting allies nearby. Some want you to have utilized your weapons and devices in smart and efficient ways. Some missions take fooooorrrreeeevvvveeerrrrr to get through and some are super fast. Some also give tips during the text parts where characters are talking to you within the storyline.
I found that oftentimes I either had to have luck on my side, know my ship weapons and abilities really well which took awhile, and/or had to buddy-up with someone to complete it so I could just move on with my KDF or Fed life. Also... make sure you have your ship's stations occupied by your bridge officers (aka Boffs) once you get them, which will add fire power and defense to assist you and I can give you tips on where to allocate your skill points depending on what department you're in (science/tactical/engineering) among other factors.
I'd rather do things on my own and succeed though (even though I love company), and if you're that way, then it'll be tough or even feel unfair sometimes with regards to the difficulty. But if you've put the work in and still can't get through a part of a mission, then feel free to contact anyone here, like myself, and we can either give you a tip, or join your team and help you through it.
Like I said earlier, it's also fun with company too. When are you usually on the game?
Let me provide you some practical links that might help with your journey in our favorite universe as you boldly go where only STO players have gone before. At level 7 you can access the doff system that might peak your interest. Read more at http://www.stowiki.org/Duty_officer or check out Archived Post's (PWE! What have you done?!) brilliant write up : http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=233726
Not particularly at early levels, but you should also note that Dilithium plays a big role in STO, you can find a great "how and where" guide at http://www.stowiki.org/Dilithium
Also I'd like to recommend you to join some of the user-created chat channels in game like Accolades, REDALERT, Doffjobs and TTS. Should you have a question, I find these chat channels very informative and mostly friendly. Avoid Zonechat and you'll retain your faith in humanity.
If you're into Fanfic, you must try The Foundry. You can access community authored missions by hailing Starfleet from your minimap and click "Community Authored" tab. Learn more at http://sto.perfectworld.com/about/foundry/foundry-main
Finally, this game has some pretty good podcasts that help you with familiarizing the game even more. I highly recommend STOked (this one bit the dust sadly, but still entertaining and somewhat informative - note that most of their numbercrunching is now out of sync due to changes Cryptic made to the game). 126 episodes and lot of fun waits you at http://www.jupiterbroadcasting.com/show/stoked/. I also recommend http://starbaseugc.com/ where you'll find Foundry-themed podcasts like Podcast UGC, Broadcast UGC, Bitesize UGC. Make sure your weapon power is set to 'attack'. When in space, look for a smallish square panel with some numbers that say 50/100 or 25/50. This is your power level control box. Click the tab that looks like an 'X'. The tool tip should say 'attack'. This will bump your weapon power up to 100.
Also, use the <space bar> to fire your weapons instead of mouse clicking. You can also set your weapons to auto-fire. Just right-click on the weapon and it should highlight green. This means auto-fire is on. Once you start firing, it will continue to fire until the target is destroyed or out of range.

Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Elizabeth, but you can call me Liz, Ellie, or whatever you'd like.
I've been a Trekkie for years. While I was nowhere near being born when TOS aired, (My mother was born in 62, I was born 92) The Original Series and TNG are both absolutely my favorite. Hence why I picked ElizabethKirk.
My favorite characters are Kirk, Spock, Bones, Picard, Crusher (both).
I'm also a huge fan of the reboot. Chris Pine is undoubtably hot. Can't forget Quinto.
I was on Youtube when I came across this, a small video playing in the corner and its like OMGREALLY!? When I saw the little video for it, I got a big high.
So taking a small break from reading 2009/TOS fanfiction on Fanfiction.net, I just had to do it.
Anyways, I don't know anybody here. So, if you'd like to talk, I'm here!
Thanks,
Ellie
Hello there and welcome to STO, i hope you have a great time playing. If you need to ask anything about the game, there are a good bunch of people here on the forums who'll be happy to help you.
Gotta love TOS & TNG  . . .
Happy hunting Captain
P.S, i hope you've kicked those klingons butts in P'Jem, you can also set your phasers to autofire .. by right clicking the icon in the weapons tray you'll know when autofire in enabled because the icon will have a green outline, that way you only have to give one command of . . "FIRE" . . lol.

I'll try to do everything that everyone said to do. The game is awesome, I just know that it is HARD driving a ship.... haha. Well, not hard, but I'm not used to the slowness hah.
I'm a bit late to the welcoming committee, but you're just as welcome all the same.

I'm at the college all day today. It's 9:39am (I'm EST, Ohio, USA) right now, but I'll be leaving in a few minutes. I'll be in my Five hour Firearms class (Which consists of shooting phasers...I wish!) and my Biology class right after firearms for 3 hours. I'm gonna pretend that my professor is Spock so class will be more interesting... Although, her name IS Amanda...
So, I'm extending offer of contact with me, just because I wanna.
I have a textfree app and a cell phone, but I hate my phone at this moment.
My textfree number is text only at this moment. 740-743-7300.
Have a good day, and I'll most likely be on tonight, hopefully!
I too am a bit late, as I'm not used to the new page just yet. The name in game is Kildarin if you want to add me. I'll be happy to help out in anyway I can, as I'm sure most of the gang here will, especially The.Grand.Nagus, whom is the wisest of us all.
It's morning for me (and elizabethkirk apparently) and I'm back on, so if any members of our disfunctional family want to contact me in game, I'll be on in a few minutes.

Would you? You're a life saver! I should be on around 10:30-11pm EST time. Just promise not to laugh if I end up being all Duh! in the game. I'm getting the hang of it, it's just my stuff is a tad slow until I do a clean on my laptop (which is very clean, honestly. I have too many ST, Doctor Who pics... LOL)
If anybody wants to know when I'll most likely be on:
Tomorrow, however, I work from 10:30am-7pm, should be on after 7pm. Saturday will probably be late as well as I have a wedding to go to. I'm one of the hostesses. Sunday I should be on after church majority of the day.
I work Monday's, go to school Tuesday's, here on Wednesday's, school on thursday's, work friday's, saturdays and sunday's, depending on if I get any days off without request.
When you 'friend' somebody, you'll get a notification when they're on. You can ask your friends questions or team up with them.

I'm sure nobody will laugh Elizabeth, it's quite a learning curve when you start out . . before long you'll soon be whizzing inbetween asteroids while popping klings with phasers like the rest of us.
A few good Bridge officer powers to have are:
Fire at will (Tactical) = Fire beam weapons at multiple targets
Tactical team (tactical) = Weapons buff and automatic shield distribution for a short time
Emergency power to shields (Engineering) = Gives a little shield boost
Engineering team (Engineering) = Small repair to your hull
Well in my opinion anyhow, this may help you out if you find things a little hectic sometimes.
You can check these out on the STO wiki if you like.

I could see an argument for either Beam Overload or Tactical Team I at the starting levels as well , but yeah Fire at Will is nice to look at , and effective as well. Totally agree on EPtS and Eng team.
