You only have to spend money if you're impatient. All the items in the C-store (cash shop) can be obtained with Dilithium through the Dilithium exchange! It just takes time to collect enough.
I myself almost have enough to purchase my new ship! Yess, soon my precious... /crazy
Oh dear lord, I AM impatient. But at least I have stuffs to keep this girl occupied.
Now, is the USS Enterprise and all that on here? lol I have a thing for THAT beauty.
The original is here, though as a starter ship. The refit of it is ingame too. You can have an Excelsior, and of course a Galaxy and Sovereign. There is also the newest Enterprise! The Odyssey class, and boy is that lady well endowed!
Oh yes, I guess I should've clarified that... heh.
The Enterprise from TOS?
Yep it's there, but it's a beginner ship and also a cash shop ship. You will outgrow it quickly if you decide to buy it. See, the game works in tiers. The Connie is a T1 ship and you change your ship as you move up in the tiers. It's possible to play the all the story missions in the T1 ships (I've heard stories of people doing it) but I'd imagine it's a bit difficult. Higher tier ships have more abilities and weapons, etc.
Although they do have a Galaxy refit at T5, if you're into the Enterprise D. That's a cash shop ship too though. Or you could do what I do and fly a Sovereign (Enterprise E), it's in game for free.
Hmm, a beginner ship? You'd think it'd play a bigger role in the game.
Well by this point (2409) the Connie is well over 150 years old (first one launched circa 2245?) so the old girls getting on a bit. That said, the Excelsior class (refit) stands as one of the best end-game cruisers for some reason.

Oh wow! I'm glad everybody knows their ships! I'm a little embarrassed as a Trekkie to say that I don't know all of em' and I probably should. I focus too much on the characters a lot it seems.
Oh I've finally seen all the other posts. I didn't realize things were just changed! (I always seem to come in a bit late....)
I would however like to thank you guys for replying to my thread, and politely, I may add. I have no doubt we'll one day be fellow trekkie friends. (If I don't bug ya all to death with my obsession over this.)
Waiting until the madness is over shouldn't be too hard, as I have school 2 days a week and work the rest. College is madness in itself and so is my job, but I'm pretty sure coming on in the evenings will be a treat in itself.

Everyone gets something different out of Star Trek! For me, that would be the Akira class. Now we have a carrier version of it at max rank! So yay for me!
Also, excited is awesome!!!
Exclamation points for everyone!!!!!!

Haha! Well thank you for not deeming me stupid for not knowing all the stuffs!!!
This mildly reminds me of WoW. I played that for a long time before thinking about this. Now my brother just plays it. But this, THIS is mine. I can bet my life this is better than WoW.
He is not joking about the tribbles. If you put them in your inventory they WILL eat all of you food. They also have many breeds that are created by what type they are and what they eat.

Galaxy class all the way for me, see I like my ships as I like my coffee, large and curvy... wait... o.O
Okay then dont let yourself ever get fooled by those PWE ******s . You don't need anything they sell for $ to be competitive in this game. Save them for sth more useful.
Please quit threadcrapping in what has so far been a very pleasant thread.
I don't see why anything should cost on a free-play.... dumb, ain't it?
Well if they don't make any money the game will shut down. Free to play only means that you don't need to pay a subscription.
They have to sell something whether it's ships, costumes, lockboxes etc...

I suppose I understand that one. True enough. lol.
"Free to play" is only partially true. Expect to find alot of really nice things in game you'll need to put down real money for. You CAN obtain Cpoints... err... is it just Zen now? ... by grinding dilithium in game, but it will take a very long time to get enough for anything of worth, especially as a new player.
Regardless of the business model, STO can be very enjoyable, especially with friends to help and join you along the way. It's kept me coming back for more since closed beta, so there's gotta be something to it, right?

Ah, thanks!
I'm really looking forward to playing and meeting new trekkies like yourself. It's really nice to meet you
Personally, I don't think you need to buy much of anything in the C-Store at all to enjoy the game. The most desirable things in my opinion are more inventory slots, bridge officer slots, and maybe ship slots.
All of that you can get by subscribing for a month, which you then get to keep after your subscription runs out, should you choose not to renew. That would be the route I recommend.
As for the person asking if it's Zen now...it's still C-Points. Zen is the global PWE currency, but must be converted to the game's local currency depending on the PWE game in question. For Star Trek, that's C-Points.
If you have any more new player questions, do ask here, or in the Academy. You can also ask me in game if you want, I love helping new people out. If you want to add me to your friends list, you can add the handle @ainu
I agree, you don't NEED anything in the C-Store. There are some fun items in there though!
^This.
I have to admit that I bought several of the uniforms and love the hell out of them. I'm rather fond of the Jupiter uniform set. I use it on all my characters and officers. After all, what good is saving the galaxy if I don't look damn good doing it?
100% female for sure. I just had to do something as female and original as ElizabethKirk.
Heh. Not the Rachel Garret her was referring to. The Rachel_Garret is an STO player. And HE is a active involved with the STO Foundry (User Created Content).
